  • A high-pressure ball valve was developed, and both the structural strength and sealing performance were assessed based on a nonlinear finite element analysis. Different parts were modeled with solid elements and assembled, taking into account both contact and sliding effects. Three different loading scenarios were analyzed, including a high-pressure closure test and fire and shell test conditions. The structural safety of each part was checked under each loading condition, and the sealing performance was also investigated to validate the performance of the valve.

  • Ram pressure stripping due to the intracluster medium (ICM) is an important environmental process, which causes star formation quenching by effectively removing cold interstellar gas from galaxies in dense environments. The evidence of diffuse atomic gas stripping has been reported in several HI imaging studies. However, it is still under debate whether molecular gas (i.e., a more direct ingredient for star formation) can be also affected and/or stripped by ram pressure. The goal of this thesis is to understand the impact of ram pressure on the molecular gas content of cluster galaxies and hence star formation activity. To achieve this, we conducted a series of detailed studies on the molecular gas properties of three Virgo spiral galaxies with clear signs of active HI gas stripping (NGC 4330, NGC 4402, and NGC 4522) based on high-resolution CO data obtained from the Submillimeter Array (SMA) and Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA). As a result, we find the evidence that the molecular gas disk also gets affected by ram pressure in similar ways as HI even well inside of the stellar disk. In addition, we detected extraplanar 13CO clumps in one of the sample, which is the first case ever reported in ram pressure stripped galaxies. By analyzing multi-wavelength data (e.g., Hα, UV, HI, and CO), we discuss detailed processes of how ram pressure affects star formation activities and hence evolution of cluster galaxies. We also discuss the origin of extraplanar 13CO, and how ram pressure can potentially contribute to the chemical evolution of the ICM.

  • A solid-state electrochemicall cell for sensing CO2 gas was fabricated using a solid electrolyte of Li2CO3-Li3PO4-Al2O3 mixture and a reference electrode of LiMn2O4. The e.m.f. (electromotive force) of sensor showed a good accordance with theoretical Nernst slope (n=2) for CO2 gas concentration range of 100-10000 ppm above 35$0^{\circ}C$. The e.m.f. of sensor was constant regardless of oxygen partial pressure at the high temperature above 0.1 atm. It was, however, a little depended on oxygen partial pressure as the pressure decreased below 0.1 atm. The oxygen-dependency of our sensor gradually disappeared as the operating temperature increased. The sensing behavior of our CO2 sensor was affected by the presence of water vapor, but its effect was small comparing with other sensors.

  • As the global warming becomes a serious environmental problem, studies of reducing $CO_2$ emission in power generation area are in progress all over the world. One of the carbon capture and storage(CCS) technologies is known as oxy-fuel combustion power generation system. In the oxy-fuel combustion system, the exhaust gas is mainly composed of $CO_2$ and $H_2O$. Thus, high-purity $CO_2$ can be obtained after a proper $H_2O$ removal process. In this paper, an oxy-fuel combustion cycle that recovers the waste heat of a high-temperature fuel cell is analyzed thermodynamically. Variations of characteristics of $CO_2$ and $H_2O$ mixture which is extracted from the condenser and power consumption required to obtain highly-pure $CO_2$ gas were examined according to the variation of the condensing pressure. The influence of the number of compression stages on the power consumption of the $CO_2$ capture process was analyzed, and the overall system performance was also investigated.

  • The chlorination kinetics of synthetic rutile prepared by selective chlorination of ilmenite with Cl2 and CO gas mixture were studied in a fluidized bed. Th e effects of reaction temperature, reaction time, and the ratio of Cl2 and CO partial pressure ($p_{Cl_2}/p_{CO}$) on the conversion rate of TiCl4 were investigated. The conversion rate of TiC4 was low under the high $p_{Cl_2}/p_{CO}$ conditions. Moreover, it was considered that the partial pressure of CO gas was more effective than that of Cl2 gas when comparing the stoichiometric conversion rate and experimental results of high CO partial pressure. Considering the porous structure of particles, the rate controlling step of the chlorination of synthetic rutile was determined to be chemical reaction and the activation energy was calculated as 53.77 kJ/mol.

  • In the field of the $CO_2$ absorption process using aqueous ammonia, the effects of regeneration pressure and temperature on $CO_2$ absorption performances of the aqueous ammonia were investigated. The absorbents were prepared by dissolving ammonium carbonate solid in water to grant the resulted solution 0.5 $CO_2$ loading ($mol\;CO_2/mol\;NH_3$) and various ammonia concentration (14, 20, 26 and 32 wt%). As-prepared absorbents were regenerated at high pressure and temperature (over $120^{\circ}C$ and 6 bar) before the absorption test. The absorption test was carried out by injecting the simulated gas that contains 12 vol% of $CO_2$ into a bubbling reactor. The introduction of 26 wt% of the ammonia concentration for $CO_2$ absorption test resulted in the higher absorption capacities than other experimental conditions. In particular, when the absorbents with 26 wt% of the ammonia were regenerated at $150^{\circ}C$ and 14 bar, the highest absorption capacity, $45ml\;CO_2/g$, was obtained. According to the analysis of absorbents using acid-base titration, the ammonia loss during the regeneration of the absorbents with a fixed ammonia concentration decreased as the regeneration pressure increased, while it increased as the regeneration temperature increased. In the condition of fixed regeneration pressure and temperature, as expected, the ammonia loss increased as the ammonia concentration increased. The measured $CO_2$ loadings and ammonia concentrations of absorbents were compared to the values calculated by Electrolyte NRTL model in Aspen Plus.

  • In the respect of the environmental protection viewpoint, $CO_2$ may be one of the most attractive alternative refrigerants for an automotive air-conditioning system. For the development of control algorithm of a $CO_2$ automotive air-conditioning system, characteristics of a $CO_2$ refrigerant should be considered. The high-side pressure of a $CO_2$ system should be controlled in order to improve the system efficiency. In this study, dynamic physical models of a $CO_2$ system were developed and dynamic behaviors of the system were predicted by using these models. Control algorithms of a $CO_2$ system were also developed and the effectiveness of these algorithm was verified by using dynamic models.

  • We studied on the development of clothing pressure measurement system for wear comfort of foundations(girdle, brassiere, all-in-one). Measurements of clothing pressure were made on subjects wearing girdles, brassieres, all-in-ones of several type(material, size) using by CPMS(clothing pressure measurement system: Tech-Storm. Co). Wearing experiments have been carried out using nine women in the twenties and six women in the forties. The results obtained are as follows: 1. The clothing pressure applied by girdle was higher in the hard type than the soft type by $5-10gf/cm^2$, also recorded a high clothing pressure at points of waist band line and thigh lateral. 2. Clothing pressure of brassiere with wire was high at the point of underbust line and shoulder strap. Pressure for 40s showed higher than 20s by $6-7gf/cm^2$. 3. The pressures of abdominal part applied by both of girdle and all-in-one were much greater than those of girdle or all-in-one. 4. We demonstrated the adaptability and conformity of the CPMS by inquiring into the clothing pressure of various foundations.

  • Solubility data of carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) in 1-butyl-3-methylpiperidinium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ($[bmpip][Tf_2N]$) ionic liquid are presented at pressures up to about 30 MPa and at temperatures between 303 K and 343 K. As far as we know, the data on the $CO_2$ solubility in the $[bmpip][Tf_2N]$ ionic liquid have never been reported in the literature by other investigators. The solubilities of $CO_2$ were determined by measuring the bubble point or cloud point pressures of the $CO_2+[bmpip][Tf_2N]$ mixtures with various compositions using a high-pressure equilibrium apparatus equipped with a variable-volume view cell. To observe the effect of the cation composing the ionic liquid on the $CO_2$ solubility, the $CO_2$ solubilities in $[bmpip][Tf_2N]$ used in this study were compared with those in 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)-imide ($[bmim]Tf_2N]$). As the equilibrium pressure increased, the $CO_2$ solubility in $[bmpip][Tf_2N]$ increased sharply. On the other hand, the $CO_2$ solubility decreased with increasing temperature. The mole fraction-based $CO_2$ solubilities were almost the same for both $[bmpip][Tf_2N]$ and $[bmim][Tf_2N]$, regardless of temperature and pressure. The phase equilibrium data for the $CO_2+[bmpip][Tf_2N]$ systems have been correlated using the Peng-Robinson equation of state.

  • Effects of high hydrostatic pressure on microorganisms and browning enzymes in Angelica keiskei juice were investigated using response surface methodology. The optimum process condition for maximum reduction of total aerobes was $5700\;kg_f/cm^2$ (558.6 MPa) pressure and 7.16 min process time, and 3.44 log cycle reduction of total aerobes was predicted at the optimum condition. E. coli, initially $8.8{\times}10^3\;CFU/ml$, was completely inactivated by high hydrostatic pressure at all process conditions ($3800{\sim}6700\;kg_f/cm^2\;pressure;\;3{\sim}17\;min\;process\;time$). Polyphenol oxidase and peroxidase were partly inactivated by the high hydrostatic pressure. It was also indicated that inactivation of microorganisms and browning enzymes by hydrostatic pressure is dependent on pressure rather than process time.
