  • The purpose of this paper is to visualize and to analyze differences of regional mortality rates by major causes of death. We use causes of death statistics from KOSIS and compare regional mortality rates divided by national mortality rates by three causes of death. To do this, we define regional mortality ratio and regional age-standardized mortality ratio, and visualized by choropleth map using R. As a result, In case of neoplasm, there was no significant difference by region. In case of circulatory system, Ulsan, Daegu, Busan and Gyungnam showed relatively high regional age-standardized mortality ratio. In case of respiratory system, the ratios were in order of Gangwon, Sejong, and Chungbuk.

  • Data mining means data analysis and model selection using various types of data in order to explore useful information and knowledge for making decisions. Examples of data mining include scoring for credit analysis of a new customer and scoring for churn management, where the customers with high scores are given special attention. In this paper, scoring is interpreted as a modeling process of the conditional probability and polyclass scoring method is described. German credit data, a PC communication company data and a mobile communication company data are used to compare the performance of polyclass scoring method with that of the scoring method based on a tree model.

  • When a part of data is unobserved the marginal likelihood of parameters given the observed data often involves analytically intractable high dimensional integral and hence it is hard to find the maximum likelihood estimate of the parameters. Simulated maximum likelihood(SML) method which estimates the marginal likelihood via Monte Carlo importance sampling and optimize the estimated marginal likelihood has been used in many applications. A key issue in SML is to find a good proposal density from which Monte Carlo samples are generated. The optimal proposal density is the conditional density of the unobserved data given the parameters and the observed data, and attempts have been given to find a good approximation to the optimal proposal density. Algorithms which adaptively improve the proposal density have been widely used due to its simplicity and efficiency. In this paper, we describe a fully adaptive algorithm which has been used by some practitioners but has not been well recognized in statistical literature, and evaluate its estimation performance and robustness via a simulation study. The simulation study shows a great improvement in the order of magnitudes in the mean squared error, compared to non-adaptive or partially adaptive SML methods. Also, it is shown that the fully adaptive SML is robust in a sense that it is insensitive to the starting points in the optimization routine.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to parenting attitudes perceived by adolescents into different groups and to examine the impact of sub-factors of parenting attitudes on smart phone addiction. Methods: Data was collected by distributing questionnaires to high school students located in the nationwide regions and a total of 1,020 people were surveyed. Inconsistent parenting attitudes were divided into the consistent group and inconsistent group to carry out descriptive statistics, multiple regression, and path analysis. Results: In both the consistent and inconsistent parenting attitude groups, it was found that among the sub-factors, interest(p<.01) had the biggest impact on smart phone addiction. Inconsistent parenting attitude group was found that smart phone addiction levels in adolescents were more higher than consistent parenting attitude group. Conclusions: Through the above results, it was confirmed that smart phone addiction to directly impact parenting attitude. This implies that when raising their children, parents should display consistent attitudes in order to prevent addictive smart phone usage among adolescent.

  • This paper introduces the Bootstrap method for statistical analysis of noise and vibration spectrum in aeronautic and space fields. Generally, all components of a launch vehicle and its payloads are subjected to high intensive noise and vibration environment during the lift-off phase and the ascent phase through Mach =1 and Max Q. In order to verify their survivabilities against these severe vibroacoustic environments during qualification tests and acceptance tests, it is most important to estimate the proper upper limits of the environmental condition. Although NASA has typically utilized the Normal Tolerance Limit method in deriving these levels, the reference[1] says that the Bootstrap can be also an alternative method to estimate the maximum expected environments. In this paper, a general procedure of the Bootstrap method is summarized, and it is applied to analyze acceleration power spectral density functions, which were measured during acoustic test on the upper stage of KSLV-I.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the working married women's perception on the effect of work on household economy. The household economy was examined in three aspects; income, assets, and consumption patterns, along with the contribution and the satisfaction of working married women with respect to their income by work Four hundred thirty working married women with the first child of less than middle school were surveyed, with questionnaires from March 25 to April 22 of 2005, and analyzed with descriptive statistics. The results were as follows: the reasons of working married women for work were making an affluent living, showing their ability, wanting for work, and making a living in order. The perceived degree of their income contribution to household income was on the average about $42.53\%$. They perceived the spending in time-saving consumption items, child-rearing consumption items, and personal consumption items to be decreased, if they were not working. Their work was helpful in saving, insurance and investment, debt payment, money for old life, money for housing, money for emergency. About $69\%$ of working married women perceived their income contribution to their household income as being high.

  • In accelerated life tests, the failure time of an item is observed under a high stress level, and based on the time the performances of items are investigated at the normal stress level. In this paper, when the mean of the prior of a failure rate is known in the exponential lifetime distribution with censored accelerated failure time data, we utilize the empirical Bayesian method by using the moment estimators in order to estimate the parameters of the prior distribution and obtain the empirical Bayesian predictive density and predictive intervals for a future observation under the normal stress level.

  • In this research, the comparison and analysis of domestic prestressed concrete bridges were performed with major variations of superstructure type, and span lengths using the 'current status of roadbridge and tunnel' informations provided by MLTM and STATISTICS KOREA. As a result of analysis, steel box girder bridges with 50~100m span length represent about 76% of bridges, but prestressed concrete bridges represent a relatively smaller percentage. In order to replace steel box girder bridges with prestressed concrete bridges, it is necessary to develop prestressed concrete bridges with high-strength tendons and concrete.
