  • The coverage area of a GNSS regional ionospheric delay model is mainly determined by the distribution of GNSS ground monitoring stations. Extrapolation of the ionospheric model data can extend the coverage area. An extrapolation algorithm, which combines observed ionospheric delay with the environmental parameters, is proposed. Neural network and least square regression algorithms are developed to utilize the combined input data. The bi-harmonic spline method is also tested for comparison. The IGS ionosphere map data is used to simulate the delays and to compute the extrapolation error statistics. The neural network method outperforms the other methods and demonstrates a high extrapolation accuracy. In order to determine the directional characteristics, the estimation error is classified into four direction components. The South extrapolation area yields the largest estimation error followed by North area, which yields the second-largest error.

  • This study has been started in order to provide basic information for the planning of Korean elderly care facilities by analysing For-profit elderly homes of Japan. Japan is famous for her high elderly proportion and also her fast aging speed. Therefore, Japanese experiences of trials and errors related to the supply of elderly homes will be a good guideline for Korea which is undergoing the sharp increase in elderly population. Data have been mainly collected from the official statistics of Japan and Korea. The outcomes of this study are as follows. At first, the definition of For-profit elderly homes of Japan has been proposed clearly. Secondly, the trends of them related to supply and operational characteristics have been analysed. Thirdly, the size and utilization rate of them have been analysed. And finally, the physical characteristics of elderly residences in For-profit elderly homes of Japan have been discussed.

  • The environment of automobile industry in the world is rapidly changing. It is changing of high oil price, technology, environment and construction of competition by newly rising an economic district. Automobile company is focusing on three issue because they want to reinforce competition of automobile industry in the world. That is innovation of production profit management through quality management and Lean. Chance of success is separated in R&D, providing distribution, manufacture, distribution, selling in automobile industry. Emphasis on development process, distribution process, manufacture process, circulation and selling process for strengthening the competitiveness and guarantee. In this thesis, we try to analysis the data set period of automobile production by using survival analysis. While using mean comparison of general statistics commit mistakes, survival analysis can used for including censored data in order to heighten analysis efficiency.

  • In this study the GFDL GCM generated (controlled run) zonal average temperature data are evaluated by comparing their EOFs with those from observed data. Even though the correlation matrices of observed and simulated data are shown significantly different (Polyak and North, 1997b), the EOFs derived are found very similar with very high pattern correlations. This means almost all the information (second-order statistics) derived from the observed data can be reproduced by the EOFs derived from the GFDL GCM simulates. Also, the EOFs from GFDL GCM were found to have more flexible structures than those from the observed. Thus, we may conclude that the GFDL GCM can simulate the Earth's energy balance system reasonably. However, more in detail research should be focused on the effect from various forcings on climate variability, as, in some cases, the effect of external forcings could shadow the system characteristics and mislead the simulation results.

  • During the last a few decades, internationalisation of universities has emerged as an important issue not only in developed countries but in developing countries. South Korea as a fast catch-up country has experienced a remarkable change in its higher education system. This change is largely related to the South Korean government's higher education policy and to economic developmental stages. Against this backdrop, in order to assess the internationalisation of Korean higher education, we focus on international student mobility rather than other criteria such as infrastructure or programmes for international students and faculties. According to the recent statistics, the number of inbound foreign students involved in Korean higher education has increased significantly since 2005. Nevertheless, compared to other OECD and Asian countries, the number of outbound students in Korean higher education is high, whereas the number of inbound foreign students in higher education in Korea is very low. Against these observations, Korean government's recent policies and efforts of Korean universities to improve internationalization are discussed. Finally, some policy implications are put forward.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to examine the influence of social media affinity on eating attitudes and body dissatisfaction among adolescents in the Philippines. Methods: The participants were 114 junior high school students enrolled in 7th to 10th grade in Cavite Province, Philippines. The collected data were analyzed in SPSS, using descriptive statistics, the independent t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple linear regression. Results: The factors affecting eating attitudes were body dissatisfaction (β=-.47, p<.001), social media affinity (β=.33, p<.001) and grade (10th grade) (β=-.28, p<.001), and the factors influencing body dissatisfaction were eating attitudes (β=-.65, p<.001) and social media affinity (β=.17, p=.041). Conclusion: In order to promote healthy eating attitudes and to improve body satisfaction among Philippine adolescents, educational strategies tailored to social media users will be needed.

  • Concerns related to the safety of bulk carriers we, most of all, the increasing number of bulk carrier accidents which amount to 425 during last 20 years; half of them are totally lost. A number of bulk tarriers are still missing. Bulk carrier safety has become an international issue since 1995. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) embarked on the legislation as a countermeasure to the increasing number of the bulk carrier accidents. The IMO discussed in the safety of bulk carriers including the strength of transverse watertight bulkheads, especially when the ship carries high density cargoes and the damage stability of bulk carriers in the flooded condition. In this study, statistics and causes of accidents of bulk carriers are analyzed in order to identify special features of bulk carrier accident and causes of the casualty. This study examines certain cases of hull collapses and severence which resulted in sinking to infer possible causes of missing ships.

  • The intermittent characteristics of fluid particle accelerations near the wall are investigated with the higher-order statistics and the probability density functions (PDF) by using a direct numerical simulation of turbulent channel flow. Also, the behaviors of acceleration associated with the coherent structures are discussed. The flatness factor of wall-normal acceleration is extremely high near the wall and it exceeds the previously reported value obtained in isotropic turbulence. The presence of the wall seems to make the accelerations more intermittent and the associated mechanism is explained with the PDFs. The skewness factor of wall-normal acceleration indicates that accelerations are associated with the streamwise vortices.

  • In order to provide the basic data for planning of stairways design in elderly housing, the study of Ergonomics were exmined. 3 old women and 3 female subjects were tested: 1) The relations between blood pressure and pulse: In case of the old, blood pressure was the highest at 13 cm and pulse was the highest at 23 cm. But in case of the young, the former was the highest at 23 cm and the latter was at 13 cm. 2) EMG: According to the height of stairs, the significant differences on the statistics were not seen. 3) Riviewing that biological characters according to the finishing materials, in case of the old groups, they feel most stable, as they up the wooden stairs. While they feel very dangerous, as they up the stairs where carpet is on. In the biological characters according to the stairs heights and the finishing materials, the most stable conditions for the old are 15 cm-high-stairs, wooden. And even if the stairs used inside the house, the installment of the handrails at both side must be considered.

  • The purpose of this study was to establish the hierarchy of housing values. Housing values were hygienic, safety, convenience of near environment, social affiliation oriented, self-actualization, aesthetic, and prestige. A final instrument was developed through two stage pilot surveys. The respondents were 1292 homemakers of middle and high economic class in Seoul and Daejeon, selected through stratified randon sampling technique. Data were collected during March and April 1986, and analyzed using SPSS and SAS computer packages. The statistics used were frequency, percentage, Guttman's reproducibility coefficient. The major finding were as follows; The hierachy of housing values was established with Guttman's coefficient of reproducibility. 94. Those were hygienic value, safety value, convenience of near environment value, aesthetic value, social affiliation oriented value, self-actualization value, prestige value in order.
