  • In this paper, estimation of the compressive strength of the concrete incorporating blast furnace slag subjected to high temperature was discussed. Ordinary Portland cement and blast furnace slag cement (BSC;30% of blast furnace slag) were used, respectively. Water to binder ratio ranging from 30% to 60% and curing temperature ranging from $20^{\circ}C{\sim}65^{\circ}C$ were also chosen for the experimental parameters, respectively. At the high temperature, BSC had higher strength development at early age than OPC concrete and it kept its high strength development at later age due to accelerated latent hydration reaction subjected to high temperature. For the strength estimation, the Logistic model based on maturity equation and the Carino model based on equivalent age were applied to verify the availability of estimation model. It was found that fair agreements between calculated values and measured values were obtained evaluating compressive strength with logistic curve. The application of logistic model at high temperature had remarkable deviations in the same maturity. Whereas, the application of Carino model showed good agreements between calculated values and measured ones regardless of type of cement and W/B. However, some correction factors should be considered to enhance the accuracy of strength estimation of concrete.

  • This paper presents a method of estimating the setting time of cement mortar incorporating recycled aggregate powder (RP) and cement kiln dust (CKD) at various curing temperatures by applying an equivalent age method. To estimate setting time, the equivalent age using apparent activation energy (Ea) was applied. Increasing RP and CKD leads to a shortened initial and final set. Ea at the initial set and final set obtained by Arrhenius function showed differences in response to mixture type. These were estimated to be from 10~19 KJ/mol in all mixtures, which is smaller than those of conventional mixture ranging from 30~50 KJ/mol. Based on the application of Ea to Freisleben Hansen and Pederson's equivalent age function, equivalent age is nearly constant, regardless of curing temperature and RP contents. This implies that the concept of maturity is applicable in estimating the setting time of concrete containing RP and CKD. A high correlation was observed between estimated setting time and measured setting time. A multiregression model was provided to determine setting time reflecting RP and CKD. Thus, the setting time estimation method studied herein can be applicable to concrete incorporating RP and CKD in the construction field.

  • UV-curable resin has the properties of quick-drying, high productivity at low temperature, energy, space saving, solventless, non-polluting and low-stinking, and thus, UV-curing system has been widely used in the fields of printing inks, adhesives, paints and coating agents. This study has been executed to develop a new functionnal material by the polymerization induced phase separation. The results obtained were as follows. As for the curing properties of the monomer/prepolymer/alkyd resin blends, it was found out that there was a peak by the polymerization induced phase separation when measuring the changes of viscosity and elasticity. It was also found out that such polymerization phase separation occurred in case that the alkyd resin contents were 20wt% and 30wt% and not found at the contents of 40wt%. Therefore, it would be desirable to maintain the contents of alkyd resin at less than 30wt% in order to use the polymerization induced phase separation.

  • Properties of Ag thick films fabricated by using low temperature curable silver pastes were investigated. Ag pastes were consisted of polymer resins and silver powders. Ag pastes were used for conductive or fixing materials between board and various electrical and electronic devices. Low temperature curable Ag pastes have some advantages over high temperature curable types. In cases of chip mounting, soldering properties were required for screen printed Ag thick films. In this study, four types of Ag pastes were fabricated with different compositions. Screen printed Ag thick films on alumina substrates were fabricated at various curing temperatures and times. Thickness, resistivity, adhesive strength and solderability of fabricated Ag thick films were characterized. Finally, Ag thick films produced using Ag pastes, sample A and B, cured at $150^{\circ}C$ for longer than 6 h and $180^{\circ}C$ for longer than 2 h, and $150^{\circ}C$ for longer than 1 h and $180^{\circ}C$ for 1 h, respectively, showed low resistivities of $10^{-4}$ $∼10^{-5}$ Ωcm and good adhesive strength of 1∼5 Mpa. Soldering properties of those Ag thick films with curing temperatures at solder of 62Sn/36Pb/3Ag were also investigated.

  • Experimental investigation was undertaken to determine early-age strength development and the relationships between the mechanical properties of type I, V and V/fly ash cement concrete with different curing temperature. The tests for mechanical properties, i.e., compressive strength, splitting tensile strength and modulus of elasticity were carried out for type, I, V and V with 15% replacement with fly ash cement concrete. For this purpose 480 concrete cylinders cured at isothermal conditions of 10, 23, 35 and 5$0^{\circ}C$ were tested at ages of 1, 3, 7 and 28days. According to the experiments, the concrete subjected to high temperature at early age got greater strength at early age, however eventually lower strength at late age. The derived relationships between compressive strength and splitting tensile strength and elastic modulus of elasticity appeared to be identical for all types of cement.

  • The purpose of this study was to observe in vitro pulp chamber temperature rise during composite resin polymerization with various light-curing sources. The kinds of light-curing sources were plasma arc light(P), low heat plasma arc light, traditional low intensity halogen light, low intensity LED(L-LED), and high intensity LED(H-LED). Temperature at the tip of light guide was measured by a digital thermometer using K-type thermocouple. Occlusal cavities$(2{\times}2{\times}1.5mm)$ were so prepared in extracted human premolars as to the remaining dentin thickness was 1mm. Dentin adhesive was applied to all cavities. Experimental groups consisted of no base group, ionomer glass base group, and calcium hydroxide base group. Temperature before and after resin filling was measured. Temperature at the light guide tip was the highest with P and the lowest L-LED. Temperature before resin filling was the highest with H-LED and the lowest with L-LED. Temperature after resin filling was the highest with H-LED and the lowest with L-P and with L-LED. The lining of base partially reduced the temperature rise.

  • Environmental friendly acrylics/urea high-solid paints (BEHCU) were prepared through the curing reaction of acrylics resin(BEHC) containing 70wt% of solids content and butylated urea curing agent. BEHC was synthesized by addition copolymerization of caprolactone acrylate(CLA), 2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate(2-HPMA), ethyl methacrylate, and n-butyl acrylate. The addition polymerization of these monomers, especially including flexible CLA monomer and 2-HPMA monomer with OH funtional group, under appropriate reaction conditions resulted in polymers with controlled glass transition temperature($T_g$) and crosslinking density. The molecular weight($M_w$) of these polymers(BEHCs) was 2940${\sim}$3240 and polydispersity ($M_w/M_n$) was in the range of 1.61${\sim}$1.72. The viscosity and the molecular weight of these acrylic resins increased with increasing $T_g$. The coated films were prepared using curing reaction between BEHC resin and butylated urea curing agent at 100$^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes. Our experimental resulted showed that enhancement of the coating properties such as adhesion, flexibility, impact resistance, water resistance, and abrasion resistance could be expected through introducing CLA component in acrylic resin for the high-solid content acrylics/urea coatings.
