An efficient quantization and encoding of BTC (Block Truncation Coding) parameters {($Y_{\alpha},\;Y_{\beta}),\;P_{{\beta}/{\beta}}$} are investigated, In our algorithm 4${\times}$4 blocks are classified into flat or edge block. While edge block is represented by two approximation level $Y_{\alpha},\;Y_{\beta}$ with label plane $P_{{\beta}/{\beta}}$, flat block is represented by single approximation level Y. The approximation levels Y, $Y_{\alpha}$ and $Y_{\beta}$ are encoded by predictive quatization specially designed, and the label plane $P_{{\beta}/{\beta}}$ is tried to be encoded using stored 32 reference plantes. The performance of the proposed scheme has appeared comparable to much more complex transform coding in terms of SNR, although it requires more study on the representation of small slope in background.

Many CDMA systems provide pilot channels in order to help channel estimation process. Especially in wideband CDMA systems, the number of receive diversity paths can be large due to small chip duration and high multi-path resolution capability. Hence, the received signal power of each path is small for a given total SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) and the pilot power of each path may not be sufficiently large for accurate channel estimation. When the pilot power is small, one can use decision-directed channel estimation to utilize more energy of the received data. However, the decision errors can deteriorate the quality of decision-directed channel estimation. This paper proposes a novel channel estimation method that optimally utilizes receiver decisions as well as pilot symbols with the help of estimated SER (symbol error rate) and SNR. The proposed method computes two channel estimates using the pilot and the data channel filters and optimally combines them. The simulation results show that the proposed method is robust and outperforms the conventional pilot-symbol-aided channel estimation method.

In the underwater environment, high resolution can be achieved in the range direction by transmitting and receiving a signal of a particular band and/or waveform. The design of a transmit signal used in the active sonar is very important in order to detect a cylindrical object within a short distance less than 1 km, which is the detection distance of this paper. Designing a transmit signal optimal to a sonar requires appropriate selection of its center frequency and bandwidth, which allows the maximum detection distance of a sonar. In this paper, in terms of maximizing echo excess and signal to noise ratio (SNR), optimum frequency analysis is carried out under various conditions of diverse parameters. In addition, the investigation focused on the determinating a bandwidth is also performed for the purpose of satisfying the performance requirement of range resolution and azimuth resolution.

It is important to know phase offsets of PN (Pseudo Noise) sequences in spread spectrum communications since the acquisition is equivalent to make a phase offset between a receiving PN sequence and a PN sequence of local PN generator be identical. In this paper, a phase offset enumeration method for PN sequences with error detection, and its application to the synchronization are proposed. The phase offset enumeration far an n-tuple PN sequence and its error detection are performed when one period of the sequence is received. Once the phase offset of the receiving sequence is calculated, we can easily accomplish the synchronization by initializing shift registers of a local PN generator according to the phase offset value. The mean acquisition time of the proposed synchronization method is derived analytically, and we see that the method acquires very fast acquisition in the high SNR (Signal-to- Noise Ratio) environment.
Recently, interest in monitoring health and sports is growing because of the emphasis on wellness, which is accelerating the development and commercialization of smart clothing for biosignal monitoring. In addition to exerciseeffect monitoring clothing that tracks heart rate and respiration, recently developed clothing makes it possible to monitor muscle balance using electromyogram (EMG). The electrode for EMG have to attached to an accurate location in order to obtain high-quality signals in surface EMG measurement. Therefore, this study develops monitoring clothing suitable for different types of human bodies and aims to extract suitable range of EMG according to movements in order to develop self-fitness monitoring clothing based on EMG measurement. This study identified and attached electrodes on six upper muscles and two lower muscles of ten males in their 20s. After selecting six main motions that create a load on muscles, the 8-ch wireless EMG system was used to measure amplitude value, noise, SNR and SNR (dB) in each part and statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS 20.0. As a result, the suitable range for EMG measurement to apply to clothing was identified as four parts in musculus pectoralis major; three parts in muscle rectus abdominis, two parts each in shoulder muscles, backbone erector, biceps brachii, triceps brachii, and musculus biceps femoris; and four part in quadriceps muscle of thigh. This was depicted diagrammatically on clothing, and the EMG-monitoring sensing locations were presented for development of self-fitness monitoring.

This paper introduces a multi-touch recognition and tracking method for self capacitive TSP(Touch Screen Pannel). Self capacitive TSP recognizes finger touches by sensing capacitive change of ITO transparent conducting film arranged by rows and columns on the TSP pannel. They have some advantages such as high SNR, fast sensing, and simple touch processing, but have very difficulties for multi-touch processing. This disadvantage makes that the mutual capacitive TSPs, which have no such disadvantage, have been more widely used especially for multi-touch applications. However, since the other applications for remote control pad or recently developed wearable devises have only restrictive requirements for multi-touch, the disadvantage of self capacitive TSP is not a critical problem. In this paper, we first describe multi-touch recognition problems in self capacitive TSP and then propose how to overcome those problems and a tracking method of two touches when they are moving. Experimental results of our method showed that our algorithm works well in two touches.

In this paper, the capacity of the clustered response model for correlated MIMO-OFDM fading channel is investigated. We compare the capacities achieved by correlation at receiver and achieved by correlation at both the transmitter and the receiver for the case where the channel is known and unknown at the transmitter are considered. It is found that the capacity achieved by correlation at receiver is better than the other. It is also shown that the capacity using the water-filling methed is larger than that using the uniform power allocation due to the water-filling gain. But it is negligible when the number of clusters is over the maximum rank of the sum correlation matrix and SNR is high.
This paper investigates the user selection problem of successive zero-forcing precoded multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) downlink systems, in which the base station and mobile receivers are equipped with multiple antennas. Assuming full knowledge of the channel state information at the transmitter, dirty paper coding (DPC) is an optimal precoding strategy, but practical implementation is difficult because of its excessive complexity. As a suboptimal DPC solution, successive zero-forcing DPC (SZF-DPC) was recently proposed; it employs partial interference cancellation at the transmitter with dirty paper encoding. Because of a dimensionality constraint, the base station may select a subset of users to serve in order to maximize the total throughput. The exhaustive search algorithm is optimal; however, its computational complexity is prohibitive. In this paper, we develop two low-complexity user scheduling algorithms to maximize the sum rate capacity of MU-MIMO systems with SZF-DPC. Both algorithms add one user at a time. The first algorithm selects the user with the maximum product of the maximum column norm and maximum eigenvalue. The second algorithm selects the user with the maximum product of the minimum column norm and minimum eigenvalue. Simulation results demonstrate that the second algorithm achieves a performance similar to that of a previously proposed capacity-based selection algorithm at a high signal-to-noise (SNR), and the first algorithm achieves performance very similar to that of a capacity-based algorithm at a low SNR, but both do so with much lower complexity.

The new channel model for high data rate common data link(CDL) is proposed. The Two-ray channel, which is composed of the reflected signals on the front ground of the receiver, is considered in this paper. This channel arises due to the curvature of the earth when the altitude of the transmitter is tens of kilometers and distance between the transmitter and the receiver is hundreds of kilometers. The Two-ray channel is modeled by estimating the maximum delay profile and the power delay profile, depending on the transmitting and receiving beamforming angle and the radiation pattern of antenna. The power delay profile has a larger effect on the bit error rate(BER) over signal to noise ratio(SNR) than the maximum delay profile, because the distance range is too long in the proposed channel model.
A new signal processing algorithm for white light interferometry has been proposed and investigated theoretically. The goal of the algorithm is to determine the absolute optical path length of an interferometer with very high precision (<< one optical wavelength). The algorithm features cross-correlation of interferometer fringe scans and hypothesis testing. The hypothesis test looks for a zero order fringe peak candidate about which the cross-correlation is symmetric minimizing the uncertainty of misidentification. The shot noise limited performance of the proposed signal processing algorithm has been analyzed using computer simulations. Simulation results were extrapolated to predict the misidentification rate at Signal to-Shot noise ratio (SNR) higher than 31 dB. Root-mean-square phase error between the computer-generated zero order fringe peak and the estimated zero order fringe peak has been calculated for the changes of three different parameters (SNR, fringe scan sampling rate, coherence length of light source). Results of computer simulations showed the ability of the proposed signal processing algorithm to identify the zero order fringe peak correctly. The proposed signal processing algorithm uses a software approach, which is potentially inexpensive, simple and fast.
