In this paper, an 1.8V 12-bit 10MSPS CMOS A/D converter (ADC) is described. The architecture of the proposed ADC is based on a folding and interpolation using an even folding technique. For the purpose of improving SNR, cascaded-folding cascaded-interpolation technique, distributed track and hold are adapted. Further, a digital encoder algorithm is proposed for efficient digital process. The chip has been fabricated with $0.18{\mu}m$ 1-poly 4-metal n-well CMOS technology. The effective chip area is $2000{\mu}m{\times}1100{\mu}m$ and it consumes about 250mW at 1.8V power supply. The measured SNDR is about 46dB at 10MHz sampling frequency.
In this paper, we used the WLMS(Wavelet domain Least Mean Square) adaptive filter based on the wavelet transform to cancel grain noise. Usually, grain noise occurs in changes of the crystalline structure of metals in high temperature environment. It makes the detection of flaw difficult. The WLMS adaptive filtering algorithm establishes the faster convergence rate by orthogonalizaing the input vector of adaptive filter as compared with that of LMS adaptive filtering algorithm in time domain. We implemented the WLMS adaptive filter by using the delayed version of the primary input vector as the reference input vector and then implemented the CA-CFAR(Cell Averaging- Constant False Alarm Rate) threshold estimator. CA-CFAR threshold estimator enables to detect the flaw and back echo signals automatically. Here, we used the output signals of adaptive filter as its input signal. To Cow the statistical characteristic of ultrasonic signals corrupted by grain noise, we performed run test. The results showed that ultrasonic signals are nonstationary signal, that is, signals whose statistical properties vary with time. The performance of each filter is appreciated by the signal-to-noise ratio. After LMS adaptive filtering in time domain, SNR improves to about 2-3㏈ but after WLMS adaptive filtering in wavelet domain, SNR improves to about 4-6㏈.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to apply a newly developed free software program, at low cost and with minimal time, to evaluate the quality of dental and maxillofacial cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images. Materials and Methods: A polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) phantom, CQP-IFBA, was scanned in 3 CBCT units with 7 protocols. A macro program was developed, using the free software ImageJ, to automatically evaluate the image quality parameters. The image quality evaluation was based on 8 parameters: uniformity, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), noise, the contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), spatial resolution, the artifact index, geometric accuracy, and low-contrast resolution. Results: The image uniformity and noise depended on the protocol that was applied. Regarding the CNR, high-density structures were more sensitive to the effect of scanning parameters. There were no significant differences between SNR and CNR in centered and peripheral objects. The geometric accuracy assessment showed that all the distance measurements were lower than the real values. Low-contrast resolution was influenced by the scanning parameters, and the 1-mm rod present in the phantom was not depicted in any of the 3 CBCT units. Smaller voxel sizes presented higher spatial resolution. There were no significant differences among the protocols regarding artifact presence. Conclusion: This software package provided a fast, low-cost, and feasible method for the evaluation of image quality parameters in CBCT.

In this paper, a joint destination-relay selection and antenna mode selection scheme for full-duplex (FD) relay network is investigated, which consists of one source node, N FD amplify-and-forward (AF) relays and M destination nodes. Multiple antennas are configured at the source node, and beamforming technique is adopted. Two antennas are employed at each relay, one for receiving and the other for transmitting. Only one antenna is equipped at each destination node. In the proposed scheme, the best destination node is firstly selected according to the direct links between the source node and destination nodes. Then the transmit and receive mode of two antennas at each relay is adaptively selected based on the relaying link condition. Meanwhile, the best relay with the optimal Tx/Rx antenna configuration is selected to forward the signals. To characterize the performance of the proposed scheme, the closed-form expression of the outage probability is derived; meanwhile, the simple asymptotic expressions are also obtained. Our analysis shows that the proposed scheme obtains the benefits of multi-relay diversity and multi-destination diversity. Moreover, extra space diversity in the medium SNR region can be achieved due to the antenna selection at the relay. Finally, Monte-Carlo simulations are provided to consolidate the analytical results, and show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

OFDM system is an excellent high speed transmission method but it is seriously sensitive to the phase noise and IQ imbalance. Therefore, in this paper, we analyze the communication performance of the OFDM communication system with IQ imbalance and phase noise. Phase noise's variance can be calculated by integral calculus of phase noise power spectrum. From simulation results, it can be shown that the BER performances show different change according to the phase noise variance and IQ imbalance amount. When amplitude imbalance is ${\varepsilon}$=0.2; 0.3; 0.4 and phase imbalance is ${\phi}=10^0$, and distribution of phase noise is ${\sigma}^2=0.012$, BER is degraded by 2.88 dB, 3.61 dB, 4.09 dB in $10^{-5}$ in the respect of the SNR penalty.

This paper presents a single antenna radar sensor with a Ku-band radar transceiver IC realized by 130 nm CMOS processes. In this radar receiver, sensitivity time control using a DC offset cancellation feedback loop is employed to achieve a constant SNR, irrespective of distance. In addition, the receiver RF block has gain control to adjust high dynamic range. The RF output power is 9 dBm and the full chain gain of the Rx is 82 dB. To reduce the direct-coupled Tx signal to the Rx in a single antenna radar, a stub-tuned hybrid coupler is adopted instead of a bulky circulator. The maximum measured distance between the horn antenna and a metal plate target is 6 m.

The FM-QCSK(: Frequency Modulated Quadrature Chaos Shift Keying) system is one of the most efficient systems in chaotic literature. One of the problems in this system is that half the bit duration is used for sending a chaotic reference signal which leads to increase the energy losses and reduces the data rate. In this paper, a novel scheme to enhance the performance of FM-QCSK system has been proposed. With the proposed scheme, FM-QCSK would be able to operate at higher data rates with reduced BER(: Bit Error Rate) and energy consumption. The basic modification introduced by the proposed scheme is the use one reference chaotic signal to transmit multi information signals in both in-phase and quadrature-phase channels. The results showed that the proposed scheme have achieved more than 3 dB gains in SNR for AWGN channels respectively at $BER=10^{-3}$ over the conventional one. The results also showed that the optimum number information signals can be send per reference signal is 8.

The Global Positioning System (GPS), which has various military and commercial applications, is designed to estimate the location of the specific user or object. In order to accurately estimate the location, GPS requires at least four satellite signals. The GPS receiver operates on extremely low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) environment and it may suffer from various interference signals with the extremely high power. In this paper, we introduce a blind adaptive receiver based on the modified despreader, which suppress interference signals and detect GPS signals of interest without requiring explicit angle-of-arrival (AOA) information. We, also, provide the mathematical analysis for the signal-to-interference and noise ratio (SINR) of the modified despeader beamformer output. A representative computer simulation example is presented to illustrate the interference suppression performance of the considered GPS receiver and mathematical analysis of the SINR.

Detection ranges of acoustic instruments mainly used for fisheries and their research are derived as the range bordered by a certain signal-to-noise ration (SNR) thershold. The SNR is depicted by several factors on transmitting and receiving, sound propagation, scattering by objects, and mainly self-ship noise. The detection ranges are shown for several fisheries instrument, such as echo sounder, quantiative echo sounder, and bio-telemetry system. The results can be used for designing the instruments, examining the capability of user's own instruments, and interpreting obtained data or echograms. Increasing transmitting power is not as effective for high frequencies as for low frequencies to increase the detection range. Comparison of volume backscattering strengths obtained by the quantitative echo sounder at several frequencies should be done within the same detection range. By applying the concept of the detection range for the bio-telemetry receiver beams, the number of the beams and the beamwidths can be determined.

Adaptive Bit Loading (ABL) in Multiple-Input Multiple-Output Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) is often used to achieve the desired Bit Error Rate (BER) performance in wireless systems. In this paper, we discuss some of the bit loading algorithms, compare them in terms of the BER performance, and present an effective and concise Adaptive Grouped Loading (AGL) algorithm. Furthermore, we propose a "weight factor" for loading algorithm to converge rapidly to the final solution for various data rate with variable Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) gaps. In particular, we consider the bit loading in near optimal Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) based MIMO-OFDM system. While using SVD based system, the system requires perfect Channel State Information (CSI) of channel transfer function at the transmitter. This scenario of SVD based system is taken as an ideal case for the comparison of loading algorithms and to show the actual enhancement achievable by our AGL algorithm. Irrespective of the CSI requirement imposed by the mode of the system itself, ABL demands high level of feedback. Grouped Loading (GL) would reduce the feedback requirement depending upon the group size. However, this also leads to considerable degradation in BER performance. In our AGL algorithm, groups are formed with a number of consecutive sub-channels belonging to the same transmit antenna, with individual gains satisfying predefined criteria. Simulation results show that the proposed "weight factor" leads a loading algorithm to rapid convergence for various data rates with variable SNR gap values and AGL requires much lesser CSI compared to GL for the same BER performance.
