  • In many data-parallel applications massive parallelism can be easily extracted through data distribution. But it often causes very long communication latency. This paper shows that task parallelism, which is extracted from data-parallel programs, can be exploited to hide such communication latency Unlike the most previous researches over exploitation of task parallelism which has not been considered together with data parallelism, this paper describes exploitation of task parallelism in the context of data parallelism. PCFG(Parallel Control Flow Graph) is proposed to represent a multithreaded program consisting of a few task threads each of which can include a few data-parallel loops. It is also described how a PCFG is constructed from a source data-parallel program through HDG(Hierarchical Dependence Graph) and how the multithreaded program can be constructed from the PCFG.

  • As XML is recognized as a prevalent standard for document representation and exchange in the Internet, the need for security of XML becomes very important issue. Until now researches on XML security have been focused on confidentiality or integrity like encryption and digital signature technology. But, as XML data becomes more massive and complicated, it requires managerial security that decided access permit or deny by the authority oi user who is using the XML data. Thus it requires models and mechanisms enabling the specification and enforcement of access control policies for XML documents. In this paper, we suggest the new access control model and mechanism that separate XML documents by access level, assign roles to each user by applying Role Based Access Control (RBAC) and perform access control to specific documents by encrypting each section with roles. The method, we suggested, has an advantage that it does not need to update the whole keys used in encryption process by updating only the relations between appropriate secure layers.

  • Autonomous Underwater Vehicles(AUVs) have become an important tool for various purposes in subsea: inspection, recovery, construction, etc., and the development of autonomous control system is luglay desirable- thete zffe many problems associated with designing the control system for AUV due to unknown underwater envimn-Tnent, the possibility of subsystem failures, and unpredictable changes in the dynamics of the vehicle. In this paper, an autonomous control system based on the intelligent control theory to enhance operation efficiency of the ALTV is presented. The control system has a hierarchical structure which consists of mission planning level, mission control level, navigation level, and execution level. The performance of the control system is investigated by computer simulation. The results show that the proposed control system can be applied successfully to the AUV in spite of the possibility of failures in the vehicle and the collision hazard in the sea environment.

  • The Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) is a primary tool which provides a framework that defines clear scope of all deliverables throughout the project life cycle. Once the WBS is established in projects, it should allow project team members to measure and manage work performances by the WBS; further, it should provide a reference point when any work scope needs to be redefined. Based on the project information in the Progress and Performance Measurement System (PPMS) of UAE's Barakha Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) projects, an attempt was made to develop a new WBS which provides hierarchical and systematical decomposition of the total work scope of NPP construction projects while avoiding from the preexistence concept in Korean NPP projects that the WBS is a combination of Physical Breakdown Structure (PBS) and Functional Breakdown Structure (FBS). The unique features of the new WBS are as follows: (1) defined the definition of each level of the WBS, (2) subdivided the WBS into 5 hierarchical levels, and (3) adopted globally used general coding structure. The new WBS provides a basic hierarchical structure for the project scope and can be used as a basic tool for schedule control, performance measurement, project status monitoring, and communication among project participants. In addition, by putting the Work Package (WP) under the WBS, the Earned Value Management System (EVMS) per WP can be utilized for the project.

  • Various approaches have been used in crack preparations and each of the approaches has advantages and disadvantages. Although the routing method has been widely used and seems to be the best approach among the approaches, it is not a complete solution for crack preparation. This paper compares and evaluates a pneumatic crack cleaning device (CCD) developed by Robotics and Intelligent Construction Automation group at Georgia Tech, over existing devices. Surveys were conducted to discover factors that affect the performance of crack/joint preparation work. Then, data for such information were collected via field tests for devices such as router, heat lancer, air blower and CCD. Performed field test results and follow-up interviews demonstrated that the utilization of CCD has potential to offer improvements in productivity, safety, and maintenance cost. An analytic hierarchical procedure (AHP) and economic analyses were conducted. The AHP analysis considered three factors including safety, quality and productivity while the economic analyses examined the alternatives in various ways. The results indicated that the CCD was ranked first and second for the AHP analysis and economic analysis, respectively. In conclusion, the field tests and results revealed that the utilization of CCD achieved satisfactorily in performance, quality, safety and control, and showed that it has high potential in crack cleaning practice.

  • Many researchers and developers take a greater interest on the LOD AI techniques as users demand more elaborate and sophisticated game AI in recent years. However, contrary to the traditional geometry LOD, existing LOD AI techniques can be used only to a limited extent. Therefore, in this paper, I propose an LOD AI technique, which uses HSM(Hierarchical State Machine) and the Lua script language as the method to control game objects. Using the proposed approach, we can easily produce multilevel AI models for LOD and design various objects without hard-coding state machines. Moreover, in order to show the effectiveness of the presented technique, this paper exemplifies the results of the efficiency test through the prototype engine.

  • In recent years, tram has been the focus of a new mode of public transportation that can solve traffic jams and decrease public transit usage and environmental problem. This research is in the works to develop a tram signal controller and signal control strategies, and aim to resolve the problem of what could happen if a tram system was installed in general road. We developed the hierarchical signal control strategies to obtain a minimum tram bandwidth and to minimize vehicle delay, in order to perform a priority control to include passive and active signal priority control strategies. The strategies was produced for S/W and H/W, it is based in standard traffic signal controller. We conducted a micro simulation test to evaluate the hierarchical signal control strategies, which showed that the developed optimization model is effective to prevent a tram's stop in intersection, to reduce a tram's travel time and vehicle's delay.

  • This paper proposes a comparison of Voltage Oriented Control (VOC) and Direct Power Control (DPC) under command mode transition for PMSG Wind Turbines (WT). Based on a neutral point clamped three level back to back type Voltage Source Converter (VSC), proposed control scheme automatically control the generated output power to satisfy a grid requirement from the hierarchical wind farm controller. Automatic command mode transition based on the dc-link voltage error provides a command mode changing between grid command and MPPT mode. It is confirmed through PLECS simulations in Matlab. Simulation result shows that proposed control scheme of VOC and DPC achieves a much shorter transient time of generated output power than the conventional control scheme of MPPT with optimal torque control and VOC under a step response. The proposed control scheme makes it possible to provide a good dynamic performance for PMSG wind turbines in order to generate a high quality output power.

  • The recent rapid increase in genomic data related to many microorganisms and the development of computational tools to accurately analyze large amounts of data have enabled us to design several kinds of simulation approaches for the complex behaviors of cells. Among these approaches, dFBA (dynamic flux balance analysis), which utilizes FBA, differential equations, and regulatory events, has correctly predicted cellular behaviors under given environmental conditions. However, until now, dFBA has centered on substrate concentration, cell growth, and gene on/off, but a detailed hierarchical structure of a regulatory network has not been taken into account. The use of Boolean rules for regulatory events in dFBA has limited the representation of interactions between specific regulatory proteins and genes and the whole transcriptional regulation mechanism with environmental change. In this paper, we adopted the operon as the basic structure, constructed a hierarchical structure for a regulatory network with defined fundamental symbols, and introduced a weight between symbols in order to solve the above problems. Finally, the total control mechanism of regulatory elements (operons, genes, effectors, etc.) with time was simulated through the linkage of dFBA with regulatory network modeling. The lac operon, trp operon, and tna operon in the central metabolic network of E. coli were chosen as the basic models for control patterns. The suggested modeling method in this study can be adopted as a basic framework to describe other transcriptional regulations, and provide biologists and engineers with useful information on transcriptional regulation mechanisms under extracellular environmental change.
