The purpose of this study is to investigate war helmets that were worn by high navy officers during the period of Japanese Invasion of Korea(1592~1598). War helmets worn during the War are classified into three types depending on whether they have a visor or 'cheom' and tongues or 'drim'. The war helmets of circumferential type has neither cheom nor drim. Those of cheom type has cheom, but not drim. And those of drim type has both drim and cheom or jeonbi. The war helmets of cheom type consist of a gamtu which is made of steel and looks like a reversed bowl and cheom that surrounds the entire circumference of gamtu. The war helmets of drim type are reclassified into two types in accordance with the shape of the gamtu and whether they have ganju. Of the two types, one type looks like a reversed bowl and has decorations on the top without ganju. The other type looks like a bottle neck and has ganju on the top, decorations above ganju. War helmets were in transition during the period of Japanese Invasion of Korea. Both the war helmets of cheom and drim types were worn during the War. At that time, the officers also wore war helmets having no ganju and looking like a reversed bowl and those having ganju and looking like a bottle neck. During the period, most war helmets were made of steel, but in the 18th and 19th centuries, most of them were made of leather.
This is a basic study of the remaining armors and helmets of the Joseon period for our better understanding and better maintenance of them. For the purpose, this paper shall try to show the present situations of the remaining armor and helmets of the period in Korea, and their typical classification for periodization, and the nomenclature about them. First, to oversee the present situations of the remaining armor and helmets of the period, study was done about the kinds of armors and helmets, their users, and their possessors today. It was found that the exact dates and users were unclear for many cases of the armors and helmets under our consideration. It is understandable when we consider many of them were exported to foreign countries, instead of being well-preserved in Korea upon excavations. Secondly, for their typical classifications for periodization, types were delineated from the pictures and drawings in reference to the periodical changes of them from Korean historical records. The result was that we can find out 4 types of armors, and 3 types of helmets, with their combinations. This shall be usefully applied for the better periodization of the remaining items. Thirdly, we come to the problem of naming of the remaining armors and helmets. For better nomenclature of the remains all the names of the armors and helmets for the Joseon period are collected from historical literature, to figure out some principles of nomenclature for them. I found some discrepancies with the present names of them, and my propositions are suggested to replace them.

In this paper, we propose an optimized size for paramedic helmets as personal safety equipment for emergency medical technician. This identified priorities for advanced loT technologies that need to be attached to paramedic Helmets. Paramedic helmets with advanced technology have been developed others, but they have not been developed for Korea. The products of kinds do not exist in Korea. Based on the average size of Korean men's heads, this derived an optimized size for paramedic helmets. The optical width of this product would be 205 mm. The length would be 265 mm. The height would be 155 mm. The verified that this size meets the requirements of the authorizing certification institution. What paramedic most need in helmets is various kinds of functionality. The communication and information transmission features. In this study, many personal safety equipment for paramedics, including the extraction of an optimal size of strong emergency head-protection helmets to protect the head of the human body on helmets based on an design. We anticipate this result to be a basis for developing an even more sophisticated and functional paramedic helmet than those that currently exist.

Safety related workers, such as firefighters, have to wear a protective helmet. The Development of Helmets for safety is in progress to promote the wearable device industry. Several accidents caused by negligence in recent days have raised public attention to safety. For this reason, the amount of national budget funding for the study of fire-fighting and smart safety helmets has increased. However, most previous studies have focused on safety, rather than the application of new technologies based on physical attributes, especially the characteristics of head shape and size, even though fire helmets play the critical role of protection from flames and external shocks etc. in an emergency. This paper will present the smart technologies and newly developed designs for safety helmets that are personalized for each firefighter, based on the characteristics of their head, and will help a rescue operation to be much more safe and efficient.

The helmet is an imperative personal protective equipment. This protective device must be able to guard the human head against potential risks. Helmets are classified according into the purpose of use; therefore, the required performance and specifications depend on the type of products. Military helmets are intended to protect the wearer's head from bullets and shrapnel. Generally, lightweight super fibers and fiber reinforced composite materials are used as helmet shell materials, and NIJ STD of U.S. Department of Justice is most widely used as international standard related to bulletproof helmets. Safety helmets are widely used for industrial application and sports leisure. In general, the performance of shock absorption must be ensured, and various lining systems are applied in material, design, and combination methods. Evaluation standards have also been classified and strictly controlled for each purpose; therefore, it is difficult to certify with the existing standards such as the recently developed convergence helmets. However, it is possible to launch the product through a separate national integrated certification procedure.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the differences in riding characteristics and helmet wearing conditions between bicycle and PMV riders so that the basis data necessary for the development of suitable helmets for each group is provided. For this purpose, riding characteristics and helmet wearing conditions of bicycle and PMV users were investigated using online survey method and then the survey results were interpreted by in-depth interview conducted for bicycle and PMV users. The online survey results showed that the PMV group showed shorter driving distance and more driving frequency than bicycle group. This short driving distance was due to the limitation of battery capacity of PMVs. Helmet wearing rate was significantly lower in PMV group than in bicycle group, which was associated with relatively low chances to drive long distance on the motorway. In the PMV group, the 'urban helmets' were mainly used, in which the appearance of helmet was priorized, but in the bicycle group, the 'road cycle helmets' were mainly used, in which the light weight or ventilation were priorized. Urban helmets caused stronger pain and more fitting problems than road cycle helmets because the head shapes of Koreans were not properly applied to the helmet design. Since the fitting problem and pain intensity were the important causes that making PMV users not wear the helmets, it is necessary to develop the urban helmets reflecting the head shapes of Koreans in order to increase the helmet wearing rate of the PMV users.
Occupational Safety and Health Act provides that industrial safety helmets are personal protective equipment(PPE) to protect heads against falls from a height. Relevant domestic regulations are distinguished and different from other countries' cases. This study investigated industrial safety helmet's protective purposes and characteristics related to falls and the notion of fall prevention. A comparative analysis of regulations on safety helmets and fall prevention as well as standards on safety helmet's impact test requirements is followed by a literature review. It is also suggested that the term "fall" related to safety helmets should be changed to "impact on the upper part of head" in domestic regulations and standards.
There are many battle paintings among wall paintings in Kokuryeo. Most warriors in paintings wore armours in full kit. Armours in Three-Kingdom Period were contrived for strategy. They have been checked that Pangab suitable for infantry action had been worn in Shilla while flexible Chalgab for cavalry battle had been worn in Kokuryeo. As cavalry strategy in Kokuryeo was brought to Kaya Kingdom via battles in fifth century, Chalgab became also worn in South area. Pangab, Shaejagab and Nubigabot as well as Chalgab had also been worn on view of wall paintings. There were many kinds of helmets such as Jongjang-panju, Mangokjongjang-panju, Kwanmonhyoungbok-balju, Chongkakju and Kwaehyoungju. Accesory-Armours are Sanggab, Kyounggab, Sangbakgab, Gwinggab, Daetwaegab and Kyounggab. Those helmets and Accesory-Armours are quite similiar to excavations from Shilla, Kaya Kingdom area. As Kokuryeo wall paintings are related to excavations from South area, armours and helmets in those wall paintings can be a good data to investigate the full shape of excavations and how to use, while excavations are very useful to the study on method of construction and manufacturing of armours and helmets.
This study conducted scientific analysis and conservation treatment on four suits of armor and two helmets from the collection of the National Museum of Korea. Based on the findings, it identified structural characteristics of armor from the middle and late Joseon Dynasty. Since a suit of armor is made of composite materials consisting of both organic and inorganic elements, conservation treatment was conducted to the extent that the stable condition of each material remained unaffected by the other materials. The process took place in the sequence of investigation and analysis, removal of contamination, stabilization and reinforcement, repair of damaged parts, and storage. The armor and helmets had suffered severe damage, but were safely repaired and partially restored through the conservation treatment. The findings from the conservation treatment revealed the materials used and structural characteristics of the armored skirt from a two-piece set of armor from the middle Joseon period and for the two suits of overcoat-style armor, suit of vest-style armor, and helmets from the late Joseon era. It also allowed the investigation of the production methods of the armor and helmets.
An industrial safety helmet primarily intended to protect the wearer's head. It is to prevent or reduce the danger due to flying or dropping objects, falling and prevent the danger due to an electric shock given to the head. However, thermal discomfort of the head is one of the main complaints in the case of wearing safety helmet. Ventilation holes are not allowed in safety helmets on domestic regulations except for industrial safety helmets which are to protect wearer's head against flying or dropping objects. This paper is to produce the need for enlargement of allowing on ventilation holes' regulation to class B. This study reviewed foreign standards' regulations on ventilation holes of safety helmets. Some standards recommend that ventilation may be improved when fresh air is able to enter the helmet around its lower edge and to exit via holes in the helmet located in the upper one third of the helmet. And in the experiments, relationships of ventilation holes and the temperature over the head are analyzed. The experimental results show that the cooling effect of ventilation holes in the upper one third of the helmet is meaningful.
