  • Building energy consumption according to the ventilation has been considered to be an important subject. The purpose of this study is to investigate the cooling and heating loads in a test space with a forced ventilating system. In the test space, on/off controlled air-conditioning and forced ventilating facility were operated between 8 : 30 to 21 : 00 during 4 days and some important data like temperatures and energy consumption were measured to obtain actual thermal loads. The simulation was carried out in a mode of temperature level control using a TRNSYS 15.3 with a precisely measured air change amount and performance data of air-conditioner. Heating load and cooling load including sensible and latent were compared between by experiment and by simulation. Both of thermal loads associated with ventilation show a close agreement within an engineering tolerance.

  • To seek an atmospheric heating mechanism operating on the Sun we investigated a heating source generated by a downflow, both of which may arise in a magnetic loop dynamically formed on the Sun via flux emergence. Since an observation shows that the illumination of evolving magnetic loops under the dynamic formation occurs sporadically and intermittently, we performed a magnetohydrodynamic simulation of flux emergence to obtain a high-cadence simulated data, where temperature enhancement was identified at the footpoint of an evolving magnetic loop. Unlike a rigid magnetic loop with a confined flow in it, the evolving loop in a low plasma β atmosphere is subjected to local compression by the magnetic field surrounding the loop, which drives a strong supersonic downflow generating an effective footpoint heating source in it. This may introduce an energy conversion system to the magnetized atmosphere of the Sun, in which the free magnetic energy causing the compression via Lorentz force is converted to the flow energy, and eventually reduced to the thermal energy. Dynamic and thermodynamic states involved in the system are explained.

  • To analyze and evaluate the performance of developing air to water multi heat pump, the heat pump was installed and tested at low energy house in Daejeon, korea. Heating capacity of heat pump is 16.5KW and cooling capacity is 14.0KW. Space heating/cooling, floor heating and hot water is available. The results performance evaluation of heat pump in lab test showed that the coefficient of performance (cop) was 3.75, and heating capacity was 16.0KW in ambient temperature $7^{\circ}C$. Also at ambient temperature $-15^{\circ}C$, the COP was 1.69. At a low energy house, floor heating is controled by a floor heating water temperature and a room temperature. The COP of heat pump is decreased with frequent on/off operation for controlling of floor heating water temperature.

  • In this study, the compact type solar thermal and ground coupled heat pump hybrid system for space heating/cooling and hot water supply has been developed. This hybrid system was installed in Zero Energy Solar House(ZeSH) in KIER for the demonstration. The thermal performance and operational characteristics of this hybrid system were analysed especially. The results are as follows. (1) This hybrid system was designed in order to address the existing disadvantages of solar thermal/ground coupled heat pump system. For this design, all parts except solar collector and ground coupled heat pump were integrated into a single product in a factory. The compact type unit includes two buffer tanks, an expansion tank, pumps, valves, a controller, etc. This system has an advantage of easy installation with simple plumbing work even in narrow space. (2) The thermal charging and discharging time of the buffer tanks and its characteristics by ground coupled heat pump, and heat pump COP according to geo-source temperature and buffer storage temperature have been studied. This system was found to meet well to the heat load without any other auxiliary heating equipment. (3) The operating hours of the ground coupled heat pump as a backup device of solar thermal can be reduced significantly by using solar heat. It was also found that the minimum heating water supply setting temperature and maximum cooling water supply setting temperature make an influence on the heat pump COP. The lower heating water and the higher cooling water temperature, the higher COP. In this respect, the hybrid system's performance can be improved in ZeSH than conventional house.

  • Recently the radiant panel heating and cooling system has been regarded as an alternative of low temperature heating and high temperature cooling by applying the renewable energy sources to the heating and cooling of buildings. Especially this system can be used as HVAC system alternatives in super high-rise buildings for energy saving and thermal comfort. Also it can be possible to reduce the plenum space because the minimum ventilation air will be supplied into the space. This study focused on the evaluation the basic characteristics of thermal output in prefabricated steel wall panel system for radiant heating and cooling. In order to evaluate the thermal output according to both various supply water temperatures and supply water flow rates, three-dimensional dynamic heat transfer analysis was performed. As results, for the heating mode, thermal output increased by 26% with the supply temperature increasing by $5^{\circ}C$. The surface temperature of panels range within $1{\sim}3^{\circ}C$. For the cooling mode, thermal output decreased by 18.2% with the supply temperature increasing by $2^{\circ}C$. The surface temperature of panels range within $0.5{\sim}1^{\circ}C$ and it was shown the even temperature distribution.

  • This study aims to explore the heat transfer and flow phenomena inside an instant water heater and the influence of the design parameters of the water heater on the heating performance was investigated by 3-D numerical simulations considering heat convection. The design parameters are the heating ceramic dimension, the power of the heating device, and the water flow rate. The results show that a reasonable space for the heating device is required to optimize the heating performance. It is desirable to design higher heating device as possible for a given electric power. There exists a critical water flow rate that best meets the heating performance. The change in electric power has no impact on the flow phenomena and heating performance.
