  • The relation between temperature and hydrogen desorption on variation in output was investigated for the metal hydride canister. For this study, an AB$_5$ type alloy were chosen as a hydrogen storage material in the metal hydride canister. And application to the single proton exchange membrane fuel cell was evaluated. As the results, the hydrogen desorption was linearly increased as the temperature was risen. In addition, metal hydride canister heating was able to correspond the variation of load as power request in the PEMFC system.

  • The aim of the present study is to investigate experimentally the mechanism of an exploding wire in water and also to observe the bubble motion induced by an exploding wire. The experiment of an exploding wire is carried out in a water tank. As a metallic wire, a tungsten wire of 0.2mm in diameter and 10mm in length is employed. The electric energy of 50-300J is fed to the wire from a capacitor of 100$\mu$F charged up to 1-2.5kV. The explosion is recorded by a CCD camera with the resolution of 1$\mu$sec. The explosion process of metallic wire is divided into three phases. Phase 1 : As the voltage is applied to the wire, the temperature increases due to Joule heating and the wire emits light. Phase 2 : Then the wire melts and the cylindrical plasma is formed between the electrodes. Up to this stage, strong light emission is observed. Phase 3 : The light emission goes out and a vapor bubble begins to grow spherically. The radius of a bubble oscillates in time, but the amplitude of oscillation diminishes in several cycles.

  • We tried to evaporate and dry the moisture contained Flue gas desulfurization gypsum and phosphogypsum by using the microwave directly. In the result of the heating to the Flue gas desulfurization gypsum and phosphogypsum using 2.45 GHz microwave which was created by magnetron 700 W, 1,000 W and 1,700 W, respectively. According to the increasing the microwave output intensity from 700 W to 1,700 W, the evaporate time of moisture was shortened from 10 to 3 minutes. Gypsum were changed to calcium sulfate hemihydrate. However, ${\beta}$-calcium sulfate hemi-hydrate were not changed to anhydrite.

  • Large area crystallization of amorphous silicon thin-films on glass substrates is one of key technologies in manufacturing flat displays. Among various crystallization technologies, the Joule induced crystallization (JIC) is considered as the highly promising one in the OLED fabrication industries, since the amorphous silicon films on the glass can be crystallized within tens of microseconds, minimizing the thermally and structurally harmful influence on the glass. In the JIC process the metallic layers can be utilized to heat up the amorphous silicon thin films beyond the melting temperatures of silicon and can be fabricated as electrodes in OLED devices during the subsequent processes. This numerical study investigates the heating mechanisms during the JIC process and estimates the deformation of the glass substrate. Based on the thermal analysis, we can understand the temporal and spatial temperature fields of the backplane and its warping phenomena.

  • In this article, the author carried out a theoretical study on the application techniques of a new Combined Passive Solar System (hereinafter referred to as the CPSS) of direct gain and trombe walls to get quick morning heating and to prevent afternoon overheating for office building. The numerical model proposed in this study can be used for the performance analysis of the CPSS in the winter and summer. Heating and Cooling loads are analysed for building energy consumption reduction using this numerical model. The results indicate that CPSS in the winter and summer modes could provide profitable conditions for improvement of indoor thermal comfort control and energy saving. consequently, the application of CPSS will not lead to significant reductions in the auxiliary air conditioning demand but also realize the environmentally friendly building.

  • A peak cooling and heating load($kW/m^2$) and annual energy($kWh/m^2{\cdot}yr$) have been simulated for a special greenhouse located near Seoul. The special facility was designed for living plant and butterfly with many visitors. The design conditions for the facility have been discussed with the designer and simulated with the weather and building conditions. The load and energy simulation was done by TRNSYS 15 based on IPMVP 4.4.2.'s simulation requirement. The results have been shown in terms of area($kW/m^2$) and volume load and energy index($kWh/m^2{\cdot}yr$). Considering the higher height of the facility, The results came out reasonably comparing the index of a typical commercial building signed as $462kWh/m^2{\cdot}yr$.

  • Rapid thermal annealing system using tungsten halogen lamps and reflectors was developed to get 2 slips per ${\2^'}$ wafer at least at $1300^{\circ}C$. Reflectors are different in reflectance between the edge and the center of an wafer. Slip generation could be suppressed by placing a graphite ring around the wafer. The two-channel heating is proposed as the others solution to reduce the power consumption and the slip generation simultaneously.

  • This study examined the relationship among catch-fire, burning, maximum temperature (MT), amount of combustion-heat (ACH), and combustive time (CT) in heating temperature treated with the same amount of each organ of Miscanthus. In the survey sites, about 19% of the areaswere covered by Miscanthus types, and the dry weight of Miscanthus and debris on the ground were 1,164 and 178 g/㎡, respectively. At 350℃ and 400℃, the rise of temperature by Culm type (culms and ears) and Leaf type (leaves and debris) were 90℃ and 82℃, respectively. At 350℃, durning time (BT) of culms-200, ears-200, ears-200, leaves-200 and debris-200 was 0-10’30”, 0-07’40”, 0-04’20”and 0-02’40”, and that at 400℃ was 0-01’20”, 0-00’50” 0-00’35”and 0-00’30”, respectively. BT was shorter at higher temperatures, and BT of Leaf type was shorter than that of Culm type. The amount of samples consumed was as follows: Culm type (culms-200 and ears-200) was 14.6g and 12.6g more than Leaf type (leaves-200 and debris-200) at 350℃ and 400℃, respectively. The total amount of combustion-heat (TACH) of samples was 5,859.7 kcal. The amount of mean combustion-heat generated from sample at 350℃ and 400℃ differed little: 727.6 kcal (24.9%) at 350℃ and 737.3 kcal (26.0%) at 400℃.

  • A ground source heat pump system should be equipped with devices to measure the generated heating or cooling heat amount in Korea. Generally, the heat measuring devices have been developed to estimate consumed heat amount in residential or commercial buildings from a central air-conditioning system or a district heating system. In this study, two representive heat measuring devices used for buildings were selected, and the accuracy of them were experimentally estimated at the ground source heat pump operating conditions. The obtained heat amounts from the heat measuring devices were deviated within 4.3% comparing with the precise values calculated from an accredited test facility. Even though the accumulated heat amount values of the heat measuring devices had a small difference comparing with the precise values, the temperatures of heat measuring devices showed greatly different values comparing with the precise temperature. Therefore, it is highly recommended to develop the heat measuring devices which is appropriate for the ground source heat pump systems.

  • The purpose of this study is to analysis the thermal performance of the clayed hollow block wall. Its thermal performance was evaluated comparison with the cement block wall, it was generally used in building envelope. To that end, we conducted a insulation performance experiment and heating and cooling load simulation for a respective wall. In addition, we calculated a construction cost for each other's wall. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. (1) According to experiment of a insulation performance, coefficient of overall heat transmission of the cement block wall and clayed hollow block wall was calculated respectively $2.72W/^2K$ and $1.42W/^2K$. (2) The annular load saving of the clayed hollow block wall was evaluated 1.5% larger than its of the cement block wall. (3) The construction cost of the clayed hollow block wall was calculated 73% more expensive than its of the cement block wall. (4) The construction cost of the clayed hollow block composite wall was calculated 13.7% more expensive than its of the cement block composite wall.
