  • This paper presents a 37.5kVA (125kVp, 300mA) high frequency inverter type power supply for diagonostic X-ray generator with two HFHV (high-frequency high-voltage) isolating transformers. The output regulations, X-ray tuve voltage and tube current, are obtained by two high frequency inverters with the each other feedback PI controller and operating time switch for selecting shooting time and synchronizing two inverters. The operating modes and design consideration of the proposed power supply are given. Issues in the design of two HFHV isolating transformersfors high volage genrating and filament heating are discussed. Experimental results are presented to verify the performance of the designed power supply for varying load conditions. The proposed apparatus has several advnatages, e.g., the fast rising time of tube voltae, accuracy and reduced component size etc.

  • This Paper Presents an information about the heat transfer characteristics of a separate type thermosyphon in electronic equipments. The heat removal problem of electronic equipments is regarded as an important factor and a separate type heatpipes can be utilized as a cooling device of electronic equipments (such as CPU of a Personal computer or notebook). In this study. heat source ($50\times50\times2 mm $aluminum Pseudo CPU) was used for the experiment. The device can transfer heat from the evaporator to the condenser through natural circulation (without any external driving forces) and the results indicate that the device is capable of dissipating over 60W of thermal energy and keeping the heating plate surface temperature under $50^{\circ}C$.

  • An Experimental study was carried out to develop a simple method of processing copper waste sludge which is produced by PBC manufacturing. The procedure is based on leaching of wet sludge in 2N H$_2$SO$_4$, and the solid / liquid ratio is controlled approximately at 1/10. The recovery of copper is 85.4%, and pH of the leachate is 3.20. Adding ammonia solution into leachate forms ammine, and hydroxide compounds derived from other impurities in leachate at pH 10. The hydroxide compound can be treated by ferrite process, and the product is a stable oxide compound. Then the ammine solution is heated to evaporate ammonia, and the copper hydroxide is formed. Heating at 8$0^{\circ}C$by aeration, copper hydroxide is transformed into copper oxide with a purity of 98.4%. This process can recover most copper from sludge and the residue can be stabilized by the formation of a stable oxide compound which is not hazardous to environment.

  • This study suggested an improved algorithm of urban energy consumption estimation on the urban planning stage which concerns calculation accuracy. The results are as follows. (1) Urban energy consumption was estimated and managed per unit space using E-GIS DB which contains facility information per mesh. (2) Urban energy consumption was reflected by the urban facility classified and standardized by the characteristics of energy use. (3) Calculation accuracy of energy consumption was approached by separately suggested as summer algorithm reflecting urban heat island on summer energy use and winter algorithm reflecting heating system normally used in Korea.

  • A theoretical self-consistent thermoelectric model has been developed for optimal thermal design in the self-signal processing infraed detectors. The model is achived by employing the coupled thermoelectric equation which allows which allows the simultaneous investigation of the termal and electrical aspects of device behavior. The thermal limitation of detectivity and responsivity are determined by the enegy gap, carrier concentration, lifetime, and mobility as a function of the temperature. The calculated results indicate that the detectivity is decreased at bias fields above about 50 V/cm, because the performence is limiting by temperature when the bias voltage reached the level associated with Joule heating. It has been also found that the improvement in the mid-band modulation transfer function(MTF) may be restricted by increasing the bias fields. Further, the important paramerers in the thermal optimization of SPIR detector, such as temperature in the device, ambipolar velocity, element thickness and length, are also considered. The analytical study provides a mathematical basis for optimal design of such a photoconductive IR detector and the agreement between the experimental and theoretical results are seen to be good.

  • A testing system was developed to improve the reliability of printhead and several printheads were tested. We developed a thermally driven monolithic inkjet printhead comprising dome-shaped ink chambers, thin film nozzle guides, and omega-shaped heaters integrated on the top surface of each chamber. To perform a fatigue test of an inkjet printhead, the testing system automatically detects a heating failure using a Wheatstone bridge circuit. Various models were designed and tested to develop a more reliable printhead. Two design parameters of the width of reinforcing layer and heater were investigated in the test. Specially., the reinforcing layer was introduced to improve the fatigue life of printhead. The life-span of heater with a reinforcing layer was longer than that without a reinforcing layer. The wider the heater was, the longer the life of printhead was.

  • The quantum efficiencies of CRT and FL tubes that use a phosphor screen as transducer of invisible particles to light in visible spectrum wavelengths were calculated in this study. The phosphor screens in CRT tubes have quantum efficiencies greater than 3,000, which give the luminance of comfortable images on phosphor devices for the observation by the eyes. The established FL tubes have the amazing quantum efficiency of $3{\times}10^{10}$ photons per moving electron per FL tube, which allows the illumination of a $5{\times}5\;m^2$ room by three FL tubes, with heating at $40^{\circ}C$. Thus, FL tubes, including for backlighting of LCD displays, have a superior over other illumination sources.

  • This study was conducted to improve the functional properties of soybean protein isolate by dimethylglutarylation and acetylation. Amino acid composition and solubility of modified soybean protein by dimethylglutarylation were not changed, but lysine and trypsin inhibitor activity was decreased an isoelectric point was moved from pH5 to pH4 as a result of modification. Emulsification capacity and stability, foaming capacity and thermal stability were increased by the modification. In that 91% dimethylglutarylated protein did not coagulate when heating at $100^{\circ}C$ for 20 min. while its foaming stability was decreased. Whereas specific gravity was decreased by the modification of the soybean protein, relative viscosity and whiteness were improved. Generally, dimethylglutarylation produced more conformational changes in protein system than did in acetylation.

  • Energy demands for hotels in Korea are surveyed and statistically analyzed to develop calculation models for a simulation. Daily energy loads of 16 hotels located in Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Inchon, and Daejon are analyzed based on energy log sheets. Detailed hourly loads are field measured for 3 hotels that are carefully selected among the surveyed. One of the salient features for energy consumption by hotels is their weekly periodicity. Relatively large values of deviations are observed for both heat and electricity loads through the country. The mains factors are: location, hotel grade (luxuriousness) and insulation. Detailed quantitative information such are annual average, daily variation, and hourly patterns are provided.
