experimental and computational studies ore carried out to investigate the natural convection of the single phase flow in a tank with a heated horizontal plate facing downward. This is a simplified model for investigations of the influence of a core melt at the bottom of a reactor vessel on the thermal hydraulic behavior in a oater filled cavity surrounding the vessel. In this case the vessel is simulated by a hexahedron insulated box with a heated plate Horizontally mounted at the bottom of the box. The box with the heated plate is installed in a water filled hexahedron tank. Coolers are immersed in the U-type water volume between the box and the tank. Although the multicomponent flows exist more probably below the heated plate in reality, present study concentrates on the single phase flow in a first step prior to investigating the complicated multicomponent thermal hydraulic phenomena. In the present study, in order to get a better understanding for the natural convection characteristics below the heated plate, the velocity and temperature are measured by LDA(Laser Doppler Anemometry) and thermocouples, respectively. And How fields are visualized by taking pictures of the How region with suspended particles. The results show the occurrence of a very effective circulation of the fluid in the whole How area as the heater and coolers are put into operation. In the remote region below the heated plate the new is nearly stagnant, and a remarkable temperature stratification can be observed with very thin thermal boundary. Analytical predictions using the FLUTAN code show a reasonable matching of the measured velocity fields.
The purpose of this research is to investigate the characteristics of heat transfer in the downward axisymmetric free water jet system impinged on a flat oblique plate which has the uniform heat flux. Experimental conditions considered were Reynolds number, distance between nozzle and Bat plate, inclination angle of heater surface and nozzle exit velocity. Local Nusselt number was subjected to the influence of Re number, Pr number, oblique angle of heating surface and local position of flat plate. In the wall region of downward surface, The secondary peak point of heat transfer appeared at the local point of X/D=-8 from the stagnation point. The stagnation heat transfer rate of this experimental study augments 2.4 times than that of laminar theorical solution. The stagnation nusselt number is function of Reynolds number, nozzle-plate spacing Prandtl number and oblique angle of impinging plate.

This paper describes design, fabrication, and application of the silicon based temperature controllable micro reactor. In order to achieve fast temperature variation and low energy consumption, reaction chamber of the micro reactor was thermally isolated by etching the highly conductive silicon around the reaction chamber. Compared with the model not having thermally isolated structure, the thermally isolated micro reactor showed enhanced thermal performances such as fast temperature variation and low energy consumption. The performance enhancements of the micro reactor due to etched holes were verified by thermal experiment and numerical analysis. Regarding to 42 percents reduction of the thermal mass achieved by the etched holes, approximately 4 times faster thermal variation and 5 times smaller energy consumption were acquired. The total size of the fabricated micro reactor was $37{\times}30{\times}1mm^{3}$. Microchannel and reaction chamber were formed on the silicon substrate. The openings of channel and chamber were covered by the glass substrate. The Pt electrodes for heater and sensor are fabricated on the backside of silicon substrate below the reaction chamber. The dimension of channel cross section was $200{\times}100{\mu}m^{2}$. The volume of reaction chamber was $4{\mu}l$. The temperature of the micro reactor was controlled and measured simultaneously with NI DAQ PCI-MIO-16E-l board and LabVIEW program. Finally, the fabricated micro reactor and the temperature control system were applied to the thermal denaturation and the trypsin digestion of protein. BSA(bovine serum albumin) was chosen for the test sample. It was successfully shown that BSA was successfully denatured at $75^{\circ}C$ for 1 min and digested by trypsin at $37^{\circ}C$ for 10 min.

Recently, the market of skin-care device has been steadily growing up. In this paper, we tried to develop a personal compound stimulus device more competitive than existing products. As the compound stimulus, biochemical stimulus of herbal extraction fluid, thermal stimulus of plate-shaped carbon fiber heater, and optical stimulus of near infrared LED were selected. By some evaluation tests, the thermal stimulation part and the optical stimulation part were found to be developed properly. Additionally, the efficacy of the mixed stimulus of thermal and optical stimulation was tested in C2C12 mouse myoblast. Through RT-PCR analysis, it was found that, by the developed compound stimulus, the expression of collagen I mRNA and collagen III mRNA increased by 4.9 and 1.3 times respectively.

The effects of far-infrared (FIR) irradiation and heat treatment on the antioxidant activity of extracts from peanut shells was evaluated. Peanut shells were placed in pyrex petri dishes (8.0cm diameter) and irradiated at $150^{\circ}C$ for 5, 10, 15, 20, 40 or 60min with a FIR heater. After FIR irradiation or simple heat treatment at same conditions, methanol extracts of peanut shells were prepared and total phenol contents (TPC), radical scavenging activities (RSA) and reducing powers of the extracts were determined. The antioxidant activities of the extracts increased as the time of heating or FIR-irradiation increased. When peanut shells were FIRirradiated at $150^{\circ}C$ for 5 min, the values of TPC, RSA, and reducing power of the extracts increased from 40.17mg/mL to 42.30mg/mL, $67.7\%\;to\;76.3\%$, and 0.569 to 0.639, respectively, compared to the untreated controls. Simple heat treatment of peanut shell under the same conditions $(150^{\circ}C\;for\;5min)$ also increased the TPC, RSA, and reducing power of the extracts from 40.17mg/mL to 43.52mg/mL, 67.7\%\;to\;79.3\%$ and from 0.569 to 0.623, respectively. The results indicate that appropriate FIR-irradiation or heat treatment on peanut shells could increase the antioxidant activities of methanolic extracts.

PTC thermistor are characterized by an increase in the electrical resistance with temperature. The PTC materials of middle Curie point were produced or that of high Curie point (above $200^{\circ}C$), it was determined that compositional modifications of $Pb^{2+}$ for $Ba^{2+}$ produce change sin the Curie point to higher temperature. PTC ceramic materials with the Curie point above $120^{\circ}C$ were prepared by adding $PbTiO_3$, PbO or $Pb_3O_4$ into $BaTiO_3$. Thereby, adding $Pb^{2+}$ into $BaTiO_3$-based PTC material to improve Tc was studied broadly, however, weal know that PbO was poisonous and prone to volatilize, then to pollute the circumstance and hurt to people, so we should dope other innocuous additives instead of lead to increase Tc of composite PTC material. In order to prepare lead-free $BaTiO_3$-based PTC with middle Curie point, the incorporation on $Bi_{1/2}Na_{1/2}TiO_3$ into $BaTiO_3$-based ceramics was investigated on samples containing 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 50mol% of $Bi_{1/2}Na_{1/2}TiO_3$. $Bi_{1/2}Na_{1/2}TiO_3$ was compounded as standby material by conventional solid-state reaction technique. The starting materials were $Bi_{1/2}Na_{1/2}TiO_3$, $BaCO_3$, $TiO_2$ and $Y_2O_3$ powder, and using solid-state reaction method, too. The microstructures of samples were investigated by SEM, DSC, XRD and dielectric properties. Phase composition and lattice parameters were investigated by X-ray diffraction.

Lead free positive temperature coefficient of resistivity (PTCR) ceramics based on $BaTiO_3-(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})TiO_3$ solid solution were prepared by a conventional solid state reaction method. The phase structure was showed single phase with perovskite structure regardless calcinations temperature and $Ba_{1-x}(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})_xTiO_3$ structure was transformed from tetragonal to orthorhombic phase at $x{\geq}0.15$ mole. The XRD peaks with $45^{\circ}{\sim}46^{\circ}$ shifted in right the influence of crystal structure change and the intensity of peak was decreased with additive $(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})TiO_3$. The curie temperature risen with additive $(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})TiO_3$ but disappeared for $(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})TiO_3$ addition more than 0.15 mole in TMA. In relative permittivity, the curie temperature by the transform of ferroelectric phase risen with additive $(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})TiO_3$ but decreased in relative permittivity. Also, the peak of new curie temperature showed the sample containing $0.025{\sim}0.045$ mole of $(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})TiO_3$ near $70^{\circ}C$ caused by phase transform from ferroelectric to ferroelectric and the peak of new curie temperature disappeared at 0.045 mole of $(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})TiO_3$. In our study, it was found that the PTCR in $BaTiO_3-(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})TiO_3$ system was possible for $0{\sim}0.025$ mole of $(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})TiO_3$ and the maximum curie temperature by phase transition showed about at $145^{\circ}C$.
To evaluate the effect of curing treatment using a newly developed simplified curing unit (SCU) on the physicochemical quality of stored sweet potatoes was investigated for six months. The SCU consisting of a heater, an air circulation fan, exhaust fans, and a humidifying duct was installed in a cold storage room where the harvested sweet potatoes were stacked. During the six days of curing treatment, air temperature and relative humidity in the storage room were set at $32^{\circ}C$ and 90%, respectively. Physical and chemical properties of sweet potatoes were measured at 1-month intervals from the first day of storage. McKinney index showing the incidence and severity of decay was 0.83% in the curing treatment, while that of untreated control was 5.08% over the same storing period. Firmness, soluble solids content, and dry matter content in the cured sweet potatoes were greater than those of untreated control. Moreover, the changes of skin color in uncured potatoes occurred rapidly than cured one which showed delay of skin discoloration during the long-term storage. Results suggest that the SCU treatment improves the physicochemical quality of stored sweet potatoes and extends their storability. Therefore, the SCU can be effectively used for curing treatment of sweet potatoes with a relatively low cost.

Recently, it is considered that environment and energy are critical issues all over the world. In power generation sector in Korea, almost power stations are constructed and operated as cogeneration plants in conformity with this trend. KDHC(Korea District Heating Corporation) goes one step further adopting renewable energy technology like heat pump using wasted heat for energy-saving and environment improvement. This study investigates the performance characteristics by the location of waste heat recovery heat pumps of 5 Gcal/h capacity in 150 MW-class Gwang-gyo cogeneration plant using commercial software 'THERMOFLEX'. Prior to analysis, the simulations are performed with actual operation data, and then the validation of simulations is verified by checking the error within 2%. After verification, the simulations are carried out with 3 locations and the effect on electrical power output and heat output is analyzed. As a result, overall efficiency of cogeneration plant is the highest in the case of heat pump located before DH(District Heating) Heater because of the largest increase of heat output despite of decrease of electrical power output.
The rare-earth orthoborate family, RM3(BO3)4 is known to be the most promising material for the microlaser host. To grow LaSc3(BO3)4 single crystal, the phase relation of the system LaBO3-ScBO3 was investigated by DTA method. LaSc(BO3)4 was the unique intermediate compound in the binary system the peritectic reaction point of which was 1495 ±2℃. Owing to the peritectic behavior of the compound, the crystal growth of the rare-earth Sc-borate was carried out by pulling from the melt-soultion of La1+xSc3-x(BO3)4. The optimal conditions for the growth of LaSc3(BO3)4 were determined by traditional CZ method : pulling speed 0.7mm/hr, rotation speed 7-10 rpm under reduction condition. Pt and Ir crucibles could be used for about 8-10 times of growth. The effect of thermal configurations on the temperature distribution was investigated. A special two-coordinate manipulator was made for the precise movement of thermocouples from the melt to the top of the furnace for several thermal configurations. The radial gradient on the melt surface depends strongly on the construction of the afterheater. On the other hand, the axial gradient was mainly propotional to both the opening degree of baffle plate and the mutual positions of crucible and heater.
