Electrochemical Characteristics of Sn Added Li4Ti5O12 as an Anode Material (Sn이 첨가된 Li4Ti5O12 음극활물질의 전기화학적 특성)

  • $Li_4Sn_xTi_{5-x}O_{12}$ was manufactured by high energy ball milling (HEBM) and used as an anode material for lithium ion battery. Various amount of $SnO_2$was added to $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ and heated at different temperatures. The purpose of this research was to see the effect of $SnO_2$ addition into $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$. Manufactured samples were analyzed by TGA, XRD, SEM, PSA. Battery cycler was used to test the charge/discharge properties of active materials. Heat treatment temperature of $800^{\circ}C$ was needed to make a stable structure of $Li_4Sn_xTi_{5-x}O_{12}$ and the particle size distribution was $0.2{\sim}0.6\;{\mu}m$. Charge/discharge process was repeated for 50 cycles at room temperature. The initial capacity was 168mAh/g and the voltage plateau was observed at 1.55V(Li/$Li^+$).

  • The electrical conductivity and phase stability of $ZrO_2$ doped with $Sc_2O_3$ and $CeO_2$ were investigated in order to search for better solid electrolyte material for solid oxide fuel cell. Present study showed that $ZrO_2$ doped with $Sc_2O_3$ and $CeO_2$ exhibited no phase transition during the heat treatment up to $1350^{Circ}C∼1550^{Circ}C$ and was stable as a cubic phase in whole temperature ranges. The $ZrO_2$ doped with $Sc_2O_3$ and $CeO_2$ showed much higher electrical conductivity than YSZ in the temperature range of $300∼^{Circ}C$ and better long term stability than other sc-$ZrO_2$ based electrolyte that showed the possibility as a strong candidate electrolyte material for intermediate-or low-temperature SOFC.

  • In order to develop a new type of nonlinear optical materials or photocatlaysts, Na$_2$O-Nb$_2$ $O_{5}$-Te $O_2$ glasses were prepared using conventional melt quenching method, and the crystallization behaviors and optical properties of these glasses was investigated. The optical and physical properties for Na$_2$O-Nb$_2$ $O_{5}$-Te $O_2$ glasses are: refractive index, n=2.04$\pm$0.04; density, p (g/㎤)=4.87$\pm$0.58; optical energy band of the transmission cut-off wavelength, E$_{0}$ (eV)=3.14$\pm$0.04. The transparent glass ceramics consisting of the nanocrysatls were obtained when the Na$_2$O-Nb$_2$ $O_{5}$-Te $O_2$ glass was first heat-treated at 3$50^{\circ}C$ for 1 h and than at 40$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. A cubic crystalline phase consisting of the nano-crysatls transforms into a stable phase at temperature above 47$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 h.

  • Hemolytic property is a specific feature of bacteria to obtain iron which is essential for its survival in host tissues. Therefore, it is thought to be one of several factors of virulence. The purpose of this study was to investigate the hemolytic properties of Prevotella nigrescens isolated from the teeth diagnosed as pulp necrosis and apical periodontitis under the presence of hemolysin inhibitors such as $NaN_3$ and dithiothreitol. heat, various pH and cultural conditions. The results were as follows; 1. Clinically isolated P. nigrescens strains and standard P. nigrscens ATCC 33563 showed hemolytic activity. 2. P. nigrescens showed higher hemolytic activity against human erythrocytes than sheep or horse erythrocytes. 3. $NaN_3$ and dithiothreitol (DTT) reduced the hemolytic activity of P. nigrescens in a dose dependent manner (p<0.05). 4. Optimal pH for the maximum hemolytic activity of P. nigrescens was 4.0 and the hemolysin was stable under the $50^{\circ}C$, but the hemolytic activity was significantly decreased at $95^{\circ}C$. 5. P. nigrescens cultured in $10\%\;CO_2$ condition showed higher hemolytic activity than the bacteria cultured in the anaerobic condition.

Development of Digital Solder Station Based on PID Controller (PID 제어기를 이용한 전기인두기의 온도 제어 시스템 개발)

  • In this paper, we developed a digital soldering station based on PID controller, which supply stable power by controlling the current of heater of soldering iron. The proposed system designed PID controller to converge quickly to the set up temperature by user, and regain the lost of heat by external factors quickly. PID controller, designed by Ziegler-Nichols' tuning method, decides triac's trigger timing using setting temperature and present temperature to control the phase of AC 24V power that supply to the heater. Also, we give the function that shows present temperature and setting temperature of iron, and working time by graphic LCD. And during the rest time, we decided the power saving and extension of iron tip by dropping to the optimal temperature. Two experiments had implemented in $25^{\circ}C$ laboratory to confirm the performance of proposed method. The first experiment took 12sec, 13sec, 16sec, 18sec, reaching to $200^{\circ}C$, $300^{\circ}C$, $400^{\circ}C$, $480^{\circ}C$ respectively which result showed shorten of rising time than previous method. In the loading experiment of $300^{\circ}C$, $400^{\circ}C$, $480^{\circ}C$ steady state showed temperature drop of $3.8^{\circ}C$, $4.1^{\circ}C$, $4.5^{\circ}C$ which result showed the low temperature deviation than previous method.

Photochromic Properties of Cellulose Derivatives Having Spirobenzopyran Group (스피로벤조피란을 포함하는 셀룰로오스 유도체의 광변색 특성)

  • Cellulose acetate derivatives containing 6-(p-hexyloxyphenyl)carbonyl spirobenzopyran (CA-COSP) were prepared from base-catalyzed etherification of cellulose acetate, and their physical and photochromic properties were characterized. The degree of substitution of COSP was calculated from the amount of residual hydroxyl groups in cellulose acetate measured by the $^1H$-NMR and UV spectrometric data. It was ranging from 0.87 to 45.5% depending on the reaction condition. UV/vis spectrometry of the resulting CA-COSP revealed that the polymer shows a reversible color change by changing its color from colorless to blue upon UV irradiation forming a merocyanine structure, and returning back again to colorless spiropyran structure by visible light or by heat. The rate of color change was faster in solution than in the film. In the more polar solvent, the more stable was the resulting merocyanine, and the slower was the rate of reverse reaction to spiropyran. Compared to COSP blended with cellulose acetate, in which a phase separation was observed for samples containing more than 0.9 wt% of COSP, up to 48 wt% of COSP could be blended in CA-COSP without phase separation.

Minimum Film Boiling Temperatures for Spheres in Dilute Aqueous Polymer Solutions and Implications for the Suppression of Vapor Explosions (폴리머 수용액에서 구형체의 최소막비등온도와 증기폭발 억제 효과)

  • Pool boiling of dilute aqueous solutions of polyethylene oxide polymer has been experimentally investigated for the purpose of understanding the physical mechanisms of the suppression of vapor explosions in this polymer solution. Tn solid spheres of 22.2mm and 9.5mm-diameter ore heat-ed and quenched in the polymer solutions of various concentrations at 3$0^{\circ}C$. The results showed that minimum film boiling temperature($\Delta$ $T_{MFB}$) in this highly-subcooled liquid rapidly decreased from over $700^{\circ}C$ for pure water to about 15$0^{\circ}C$ as the polymer concentration was increased up to 300ppm for 22.2mm sphere, and it decreased to 35$0^{\circ}C$ for 9.5mm sphere. This large decrease of minimum film boiling temperature in this aqueous polymer solution may explain its ability to suppress spontaneous vapor explosions. Also, tests with applying a pressure wave showed that the vapor film behaved more stable against an external disturbance at higher polymer concentrations. These observations together with the experimental evidences of vapor explosion suppression in dilute polymer solutions suggest that the application of polymeric additives such as polyethylene oxide as low as 300ppm to reactor emergency coolant be considered to prevent or mitigate energetic fuel-coolant interactions during severe reactor accidents.s.

Molecular cloning and nucleotide sequence of the gene encoding hemagglutinin-neuraminidase(HN) of Newcastle disease virus isolated from a diseased pheasant in Korea (국내 사육 꿩에서 분리된 뉴켓슬병 바이러스의 hemagglutinin-neuraminidase(HN) 유전자의 클론닝과 염기서열 분석)

  • The gene encoding the HN protein from the CBP-1 strain, a heat stable Newcastle disease virus (NDV) isolated from diseased pheasants in Korea, was characterized by reverse transcriptase- polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) and the nucleotide and amino acid sequences were analyzed following cloning of the HN gene. In all of the NDV strains studied, a 1.75 kb size cDNA fragment for the HN gene was generated by RT-PCR and smaller specific band sizes harboring the internal portions of the HN gene were also detected by using four pairs of primers. The RT-PCR was sensitive enough to detect viral transcripts when the virus titer was above 25 hemagglutination units. The amplified 1.75 kb cDNA was cloned into a BamHI site of the pVL1393 Baculo transfer vector. The nucleotide sequences of the 1,758 bp HN gene from the CBP-1 strain were determined by the dye terminator cyclic sequencing method. The gene sequences were compared among the strains of CBP-1, Texas GB, Beaudette C, LaSota, B1 and Ulster. The homology of the CBP-1 HN gene to other HN variants was 97.8% to Texas GB, 98.4% to Beaudette C, 95.4% to LaSota, 95.6% to B1 and 90.2% to Ulster. As the deduced 577 amino acid sequences were compared among the strains, the homology for CBP-1 HN appeared to be 96.7% to Texas GB, 97.9% to Beaudette C, 95.5% to LaSota, 95.5% to B1 and 92.7% to Ulster. It was evident that the amino acid sequences included 5 sites for N-asparagine linked glycosylation and 12 cysteine residues. The three conserved leucine residues within the predicted transmembrane domain of the HN protein are amino acid 30, 37 and 44. The three antigenic sites on the HN protein of NDV are amino acids 347(Glu), 481(Asn) and 495(Glu). These data indicate that the genotype of the CBP-1 strain is more closely associated with the strains of Texas GB and Beaudette C than it is for the LaSota, B1 and Ulster strains.

Application Potential of Hurdle Technology by Combination of Bacteriocin Produced by Lactobacillus brevis DK25 and Potassium Benzoate (Lactobacillus brevis DK25의 박테리오신과 안식향산칼륨과의 혼용에 의한 Hurdle Technology 적용 가능성)

  • Lactobacillus brevis DK25 isolated from Dongchimi was identified by physiological and biochemical tests and 16S rDNA sequence analysis. Bacteriocin of L. brevis DK25 exhibits inhibitory activity against Enterococcus faecalis and Listeria monocytogenes when using agar well diffusion method. Maximal production of bacteriocin was reached in the beginning of the stationary phase, and inhibitory activity declined after the late stationary phase. This result suggested that bacteriocin was produced in a growth-associated manner. Complete inactivation of bacteriocin activity was observed after treatment with protease, but the activity was stable between pH 4-9 and heat resistant (30 min at $100^{\circ}C$). Bacteriocin showed a concentration-dependent antimicrobial activity against L. monocytogenes KCTC 3569. Moreover, the application experiment showed that combination of bacteriocin (320 AU/ml) with potassium benzoate (0.05%) could significantly reduce the counts of L. monocytogenes KCTC 3569 in mayonnaise during storage at 4 or $25^{\circ}C$ for 10 days. Thus, bacteriocin from L. brevis DK25 may be used for hurdle technology by combination with potassium benzoate in order to increase pathogenic bacteria inactivation in food processing and food safety control.

Mechanical Properties of The CO2 Free Vacuum Carburized in SCM415H (CO2 무 배출 침탄 열처리된 SCM415H 소재의 기계적 성질)

  • Vacuum carburizing is supposed to be the superior process to the gas carburizing. However, the vacuum carburizing has the stage in which hydrocarbon gas is supplied into the furnace to be pyrolysis, and consequently the stable heat treatment is hard to achieve due to the soot from the hydrocarbon pyrolysis. Recently, many studies have been made which utilize acetylene gas to overcome this defects. In this paper, the carburizing and the diffusion periods have been selected based on the Harris experimental formula, and the mechanical properties of the vacuum carburized specimen have been compared with those of the gas carburized SCM415H specimen to identify the feasibility of the $CO_2$ free vacuum carburizing process. The result showed that the vacuum carburized materials used have no oxidization of the grain boundaries, and show the 29.8% higher effective hardness depth and the acceptable tensile strength.
