The equivalent circuit of SLIM is composed of the circuit parameters. They can be obtained from the electromagnetic theory. The accelerating characteristics of SLIM are the best efficiency when synchronous speed changed continuously. The paper outlines a method of acceleration for an accelerated field system in which it is desired to reduce the overall length to a minimum, assuming a limit on the amount of heat which can be generated in the secondary member. The paper then shows that a primary unit designed to give several discrete field speeds only, as opposed to one with continuous speed variation, is not significantly inferior in performance to the latter but is much easier to manufacture.
A simulation and experimental study for energy flow dynamics of floor radiant heating system were performed. The study was done under both environmental chamber and a house with several rooms. The unsteady energy analysis method using equivalent R-C circuit and radiation heat transfer analysis of enclosure analysis method with simple structured rooms were used for computer simulation. Also, first order dynamics with time delay in analyzing the return water was considered. The results of temperature changes of the simulation study are good fit with the ones of experimental one.

With the development of the electronic-materials industry, multi-functional metal-composite materials with high thermal conductivity and low thermal expansion must be developed for high reliability and high life expectancy. This paper is a preliminary study on the manufacturing technology of gas reaction control composite material, focusing on the prediction of the equivalent thermal properties of Al-AlN composite materials. Numerical equivalent property values are obtained by using finite element analysis and compared with theoretical formulas. Al-AlN composite materials should become the optimal composite material when the proportion of the reinforcing phase is less than 0.5.

This study is about the modeling and simulation of heat transfer in the box for packaging and shipping of vaccines. Comparison of the simulation results with experimental data revealed that a one-dimensional model (a spherical model of using a radius equivalent to the rectangular geometry of box) showed good agreement with experimental data during cooling process but did not successfully simulate heating process. It is considered that a rigorous boundary condition is not properly applied for outer surface of the box. However, we could successfully develop a basic algorithm for simulating heat transfer through multi-slabs combined with different materials including phase change material.

The new shape of louver-fin has been applied to a parallel flow condenser to enhance air-side heat transfer rate lot an automotive air-conditioner R- l34a is employed as a refrigerant inside the flat tube of the condenser, This problem is of particular interest in reducing the geometric size of the automotive air conditioner The effect of air flow rate on pressure drop as well as heat transfer in air side are studied in detail. Comparison of the performance is also made with that of a conventional parallel flow condenser, which is available in the market. The results obtained indicate that the total pressure drop through the pre sent condenser is not changed, while the heat transfer rate is increased by 24% at high veto city of air flow, compared with those of the conventional condenser. The parallel flow condenser with a new shape of louver-fin could be reduced in size by 20% for the equivalent condenser capacity, compared with the conventional parallel flow condenser.

A study on passive cooling systems for concrete containment of advanced pressurized water reactors has been performed. The proposed passive containment cooling system (PCCS) consist of (1) condenser units located inside containment, (2) a steam condensing pool outside containment at higher elevation, and (3) downcommer/riser piping systems which provide coolant flow paths. During an accident causing high containment pressure and temperature, the steam/air mixture in containment is condensed on the outer surface of condenser tubes transferring the heat to coolant flowing inside tubes. The coolant transfers the heat to the steam condensing pool via natural circulation due to density difference. This PCCS has the following characteristic: (1) applicable to concrete containment system, (2) no limitation in plant capacity expansion, (3) efficient steam condensing mechanism (dropwise or film condensation at the surface of condenser tube), and (4) utilization of a fully passive mechanism. A preliminary conceptual design work has been done based on steady-state assumptions to determine important design parameter including the elevation of components and required heat transfer area of the condenser tube. Assuming a decay power level of 2%, the required heat transfer area for 1,000MWe plant is assessed to be about 2,000 ㎡ (equivalent to 1,600 of 10 m-long, 4-cm-OD tubes) with the relative elevation difference of 38 m between the condenser and steam condensing pool and the riser diameter of 0.62 m.

Contemporary objectives for steel rod rolling processing are increasingly complex and often contrasting i.e. obtaining a desired product with optimum combination of properties such as strength, toughness and formability at lower cost. Low-alloy steel rods have been produced with several heat treatments for drawing and forging processes at room temperature. In order to reduce these heat treatments much of the researches concerning of high temperature mechanical behavior of steel rods have been conducted at wire rod mill of POSCO. In this present work, optimizations of rolling temperature and cooling rate for JS-SCM435 are performed to eliminate softening heat treatment(Low Temperature Annealing) for drawing process. The results from the optimization changed the microstructure of rods after rod rolling from Bainite with high tensile strength of 1000Mpa to Pearlite and Ferrite with appropriate strength of 750Mpa that is equivalent tensile strength after softening heat treatment.

Axisymmetric numerical thermal analysis for a 3-dimensional regenerative cooling system in a rocket engine is carried out. To predict the accurate heat transfer with the stiff temperature distribution, several tests have been conducted for the grid size, the properties variation of the coolant and the combustion gas depending on temperature. The axisymmetric heat flux model is defined using fin efficiencies and is designed to be equivalent to the heat flux of the 3-dimensional coolant channel. For comparison purpose, the 1-dimensional analysis using Bartz equation is also conducted. The performance of the present model in predicting the cooling characteristics of a 3-dimensional regenerative cooling system is compared with the 3-dimensional results of RTE(Rocket Thermal Evaluation). It is found that the present method predicts much closer results to those of RTE code than 1-dimensional analysis.
A numerical feasibility study was conducted to investigate the thermal-hydraulic characteristics of a steam generator with corrugated plates for a small modular reactor. Accordingly, a one-dimensional thermal-hydraulic analysis code was developed based on the existing state-of-the-art thermal-hydraulic models and correlations for corrugated plate heat exchangers. Subsequently, the pressure loss, heat transfer, and instability characteristics of the steam generator with corrugated plates were investigated according to the chevron angle and mass flux. Additionally, the characteristics of rectangular and disk-type corrugated plate steam generators with equivalent heat transfer areas were analyzed. The steam generator with disk-type corrugated plates exhibited better performance in terms of pressure loss and heat transfer rate than the rectangular type. In addition, when the mass flux decreased from the onset of boiling points, reverse gradients of the total pressure change were observed in both types. Thus, it was confirmed that Ledinegg instability could occur in the steam generator with corrugated plates. However, it was dependent on the chevron angle, and the optimal chevron angle to minimize instability was 45° under the conditions of the present analysis.

The energy slab is a ground coupled heat exchanger equipped in building slab structures, which represents a layout similar to the horizontal ground heat exchanger (GHEX). The energy slab is installed as one component of the floor slab layers in order to utilize the underground structure as a hybrid energy structure. However, as the energy slab is horizontally arranged, its thermal performance is inevitably less than the conventional vertical GHEXs. Therefore, stainless steel (STS) pipes are alternatively considered as a heat exchanger instead of high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes in order to enhance thermal performance of GHEXs. Moreover, not only a floor slab but also a wall slab can be utilized as a heat-exchangeable energy slab in order to maximize the use of underground space effectively. In this paper, four field-scale energy slabs were constructed in a test bed, which consist of the STS and HDPE pipe, and a series of thermal response tests (TRTs) was conducted to evaluate relative heat exchange efficiency per unit pipe length according to the pipe material and the configuration of energy slabs. The energy slab equipped with the STS pipe shows higher thermal performance than the energy slab with the HDPE pipe. In addition, thermal performance of the wall-type energy slab is almost equivalent to the floor-type energy slab.
