A first-principle approach within the framework of density functional theory was employed to study the effect of vacancy defects and fission products (FPs) doping on the mechanical, electronic, and thermodynamic properties of uranium monocarbide (UC). Firstly, the calculated vacancy formation energies confirm that the C vacancy is more stable than the U vacancy. The solution energies indicate that FPs prefer to occupying in U site rather than in C site. Zr, Mo, Th, and Pu atoms tend to directly replace U atom and dissolve into the UC lattice. Besides, the results of the mechanical properties show that U vacancy reduces the compressive and deformation resistance of UC while C vacancy has little effect. The doping of all FPs except He has a repairing effect on the mechanical properties of U1-xC. In addition, significant modifications are observed in the phonon dispersion curves and partial phonon density of states (PhDOS) of UC1-x, ZrxU1-xC, MoxU1-xC, and RhxU1-xC, including narrow frequency gaps and overlapping phonon modes, which increase the phonon scattering and lead to deterioration of thermal expansion coefficient (αV) and heat capacity (Cp) of UC predicted by the quasi harmonic approximation (QHA) method.

The Small Punch Test (SPT) was developed to evaluate the softening and embrittlement of materials such as power plants and nuclear fusion reactors by taking samples in the field. Specimens used in the SPT are very thin and small disk-shaped compared to specimens for general tensile test, and thus have economic advantages in terms of miniaturization and repeatability of the test. The cryogenic SPT can also be miniaturized and has a significantly lower heat capacity than conventional universal test machines. This leads to reduced cooling and warm-up times. In this study, the cryogenic SPT was developed by modifying the existing room temperature SPT to be cooled by liquid nitrogen using a super bellows and a thermal insulation structure. Since the cryogenic SPT was first developed, basic experiments were conducted to verify the effectiveness of it. For the validation, aluminum alloy 6061- T6 specimens were tested for mechanical properties at room and cryogenic temperature. The results of the corrected tensile properties from the SPT experiment results were compared with known room temperature and cryogenic properties. Based on the correction results, the effectiveness of the cryogenic SPT test was confirmed, and the surface fracture characteristics of the material were analyzed using a 3d image scanner. In the future, we plan to conduct property evaluation according to the development of various alloy materials.

Currently used heating elements are metal and non-metal heating elements, including various types of heaters, and resistance line heating elements have a problem of decreasing thermal efficiency over time, so to solve this problem, a planar heating element using high-purity carbon materials and oxidation-resistant inorganic compounds was applied. Through the manufacture of planar heating elements using CNT, ruthenium composite materials, and ruthenium oxide, physicochemical performance and capacity were increased, and instantaneous responsiveness was increased. Through thick film technology applicable to various base bodies, fine patterns were formed by the screening method in consideration of the fact that the performance of the heat source depends on the viscosity and pattern shape. The heating element was manufactured by thick film printing technology by mixing ruthenium oxide, CNT, Ag, etc. The characteristics of each paste were analyzed through viscosity measurement, and STS 430 was used as a base. Surface temperature and efficiency were measured by testing heaters manufactured for small wind tunnels and real-vehicle experiments. The surface temperature decreased as the air volume increased, and the optimal system boundary was found to be about 200 mm. Among the currently used heating elements, this paper manufactured a planar heating element using thick film technology to find out the relationship between air volume and temperature, and to study the surface temperature.
1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecytriethoxysilane (C16H19F17O3Si) be successfully applied to the hydrophobic modification of Al2O3 tubular ceramic membrane. Taking the concentration of modification solution, modification time, and modification temperature as factors, orthogonal experiments were designed to study the hydrophobicity of the composite membranes. The experiments showed that the modification time had the greatest impact on the experimental results, followed by the modification temperature, and the modification solution concentration had the smallest impact. Concentration of the modified solution 0.012 mol·L-1, modification temperature 30 ℃ and modification time 24 h were considered optimal hydrophobic modification conditions. And the pure water flux reached 274.80 kg·m-2·h-1 at 0.1MPa before hydrophobic modification, whereas the modified membrane completely blocked liquid water permeation at pressures less than 0.1MPa. Air gap membrane distillation experiments were conducted for NaCl (2wt%) solution, and the maximum flux reached 4.20 kg·m-2·h-1, while the retention rate remained above 99.8%. Given the scarcity of freshwater resources in coastal areas, the article proposed a system for seawater desalination using air conditioning waste heat, and conducted preliminary research on its freshwater production performance using Aspen Plus. Finally, the proposed system achieved a freshwater production capacity of 0.61 kg·m-2·h-1.

Currently, numerous studies are being conducted on metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) gas sensors for hydrogen detection, using Palladium (Pd) and Pd-based alloy nanoparticles (NPs) owing to their hydrogen absorption ability. Furthermore, several studies have reported that Pd-Iridium (Ir) alloys possess high hydrogen absorption capabilities in their bulk state. However, Ir growth is limited to above 2 nm and it does not mix extensively with other metals. Furthermore, as the hydrogen absorption capacity decreases with the reduction in particle size, it is necessary to synthesize nanoparticles of an appropriate size. Therefore, the synthesis of Pd-Ir alloy NPs larger than 10 nm is challenging. In this study, we report the synthesis of Pd-Ir NPs with an average diameter of 19 nm using a hydrothermal technique for the first time and fabricated Pd-Ir alloy NPs through calcination at 500℃ in Ar and air. To confirm alloy formation and oxidation behavior, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were performed. In addition, we synthesized Pd-Ir@CeO2 core-shell nanoparticles (CSNPs) as hydrogen gas-sensing materials. The Pd-Ir core was partially oxidized during heat treatment at 500℃ in air, and Pd-Ir@CeO2 CSNPs were finally changed into Pd-Ir(alloy)/PdO-IrO2@CeO2 CSNPs, which exhibited higher sensitivity and selectivity toward H2 gas compared to totally oxidized PdO-IrO2@CeO2 CSNPs and pure CeO2 NPs. The enhanced gas-sensing performance was attributed to the hydrogen absorption effect of the Pd-Ir(alloy) NPs.
This experiment was earned out to investigate the effects of dietary vitamin C and E on lipid oxidation and stability of color in Hanwoo steer beef. Thirty seven Hanwoo steers were randomly assigned to one of four treatments. The four treatments were control(vitamin E 20IU/kg feed), vitamin C(vitamin C 0.l%/kg feed and vitamin E 20IU/kg feed), vitamin E(vitamin E 220IU/kg feed) and vitamin C plus E(vitamin C 0.l%/kg feed and vitamin E 20IU/kg feed). Hanwoo steers were fed the experimental diets for 3 months at the last finishing period and pH, color, TBARS, concentration of myoglobin, water holding capacity, reduction by heat, drip loss and purge loss of longissimus dorsi were analyzed at 1, 3, 5, 7 and 10th day of storage, respectively. pH value, Hue angle, metmyoglobin concentration, TBARS, drip loss and purge loss in longissimus dorsi were increased as the storage period elapsed. However, water holding capacity in longissimus dorsi was decreased as the storage period elapsed. The animals fed the vitamin C plus E diet were higher in pH value and oxymyoglobin concentration, and lower in metmyoglobin concentration than in those fed the other diets during the whole storage period and lowest in TBARS. TBARS and Hue angle in longissimus dorsi were 10wer(P<0.05) in the animals fed the vitamin-supplemented diets than in those fed the control diet. Reduction by heat in longissimus dorsi was higher(P<0.05) in the animals fed the diets supplemented with vitamin E or vitamin C plus E than in those fed the control diet or vitamin C-supplemented diet. According to these results, it may be concluded that feeding the diets containing 0.1% vitamin C or 220IU vitamin E per kg feed or the diet mixed 0.1% vitamin C with 220IU vitamin E to Hanwoo steers can retard lipid oxidation of longissimus dorsi and stabilize beef color.

Rice bran dietary fiber extract, which was obtained after termamyl treatment of defatted rice bran contained $27.3{\sim}30.5%$ protein, $49.7{\sim}54.1%$ insoluble dietary fiber, and $1.9{\sim}2.7%$ soluble dietary fiber. Extrusion decreased the insoluble dietary fiber content but increased the soluble dietary fiber content, while roasting did not. Influence those content. Each mineral element content was depended upon heat processing method. Extrusion increased the water binding capacity and L value, while roasting reduced the water binding capacity and L value. Scanning electron microscopy showed damaged cell walls for extruded sample compared to roasted one which had fully collapsed cell walls. The increase of water absorption, developing time, and stability and the of MTI of wheat flour-dietary fiber extract composites with addition of dietary fiber extract were observed by Farinograph. Rice bran dietary fiber extract had an effect on the bread making resulting in increase of bread weight and color of crumb and crust, and decrease of bread volume and texture. As a result of sensory evaluation, appearance, texture, overall acceptability were significantly different from control but flavor and taste were not different significantly up to 6% level. Heat treated samples had differences in mean values, but not significant differences statistically.
In order to study the effects of enzyme modification on the physico-chemical and functional properties of myofibrillar protein prepared from the frozen sardine, Sardinops melanostica, the protein was hydrolyzed with pepsin under the enzyme-substrate ratio 1:100 at $37^{\circ}C$ and pH 1.65 for 1, 4, 8, 12, and 24 hr, respectively. The properties of pepsin-modified sardine myofibriliar protein were determined. The extents of proteolysis with pepsin as a fuction of time was showed a typical enzyme hydorlysis curve with an initial region of 4 hour period followed by plateau region. The SDS-acrylamide slab gel electrophoresis patterns of pepsin-modified proteins showed mainly disappearances of minor protein bands, but no changes of main protein bands. The gel filtration patterns through Sephadex G-75 of sardine myofibrillar protein showed two big peaks and three small peaks. All the small peaks were disappearanced by proteolysis with pepsin in one hour. and during the period of proteolysis the fast big peak became gradually smaller and the late big peak eluted more slowly. By proteolysis, the emulsifying activity and emulsifying capacity of sardine myofibrillar protein were all decreased. The effects of pepsin-modification on emulsifying capacity were greater than those on emulsifying activity of protein. The aeration capacity of the protein was increased about 1.9 folds and the foam stability decreased to 0.6 folds of control by pepsin-modification. The pepsin-modified sardine myofibrillar proteins showed about 0.6 folds of heat coagulation and 1.4 folds of viscosity of control. The pH dependence of solubilities of sardine myofibrillar protein showed two isoelectric areas of pH 5 and 9. The pepsin-modified protein showed more clear pH dependences at the early stage but not at the late stage of proteolysis.

Glasshouse heating package technologies to improve energy usage efficiency in winter were developed. Heating package was composed of the ground water source heat pump with heating capacity of 105kW, the aluminum multi-layer thermal curtain with six layers of different materials and the root zone local heater with XL pipes of ${\phi}20mm$. Venlo type glasshouse($461m^2$) with the heating package was compared with the same type and area control glasshouse with the light oil boiler, the usual non-woven fabric thermal curtain with respect to the glasshouse inside temperature, relative humidity, crop growth, and heating energy consumption. The results of test in paprika cultivation glasshouses showed that the air temperature inside glasshouse with aluminum multi-layer thermal curtain was maintained $2.2^{\circ}C$ higher than that of control glasshouse in un-heating night time and the temperature in bed with root zone local heating was $4.7^{\circ}C$ higher than that in bed without local heating. Average heating coefficient of performance(COP) of the ground water source heat pump used in paprika cultivation was 3.7 and the glasshouse inside temperature was maintained at $21^{\circ}C$ of heating set up temperature. The heating energy consumptions per 10a were measured at 14,071L of light oil and 364kWh of electric power for the control glasshouse and 35,082kWh for the glasshouse applied heating package. As results, the heating cost of the glasshouse applied heating package was 87 percent lower than that of control glasshouse. The growths of paprika in glasshouses of control and applied heating package did not show any significant difference.

A process for manufacturing virally-safe porcine bone hydroxyapatite (HA) has been developed to serve as advanced xenograft material for dental applications. Porcine bone pieces were defatted with successive treatments of 30% hydrogen peroxide and 80% ethyl alcohol. The defatted porcine bone pieces were heat-treated in an oxygen atmosphere box furnace at $1,300^{\circ}C$ to remove collagen and organic compounds. The bone pieces were ground with a grinder and then the bone powder was sterilized by gamma irradiation. Morphological characteristics such as SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) and TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy) images of the resulting porcine bone HA (THE Graft$^{(R)}$) were similar to those of a commercial bovine bone HA (Bio-Oss$^{(R)}$). In order to evaluate the efficacy of $1,300^{\circ}C$ heat treatment and gamma irradiation at a dose of 25 kGy for the inactivation of porcine viruses during the manufacture of porcine bone HA, a variety of experimental porcine viruses including transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV), pseudorabies virus (PRV), porcine rotavirus (PRoV), and porcine parvovirus (PPV) were chosen. TGEV, PRV, PRoV, and PPV were completely inactivated to undetectable levels during the $1,300^{\circ}C$ heat treatment. The mean log reduction factors achieved were $${\geq_-}4.65$$ for TGEV, $${\geq_-}5.81$$ for PRV, $${\geq_-}6.28$$ for PRoV, and $${\geq_-}5.21$$ for PPV. Gamma irradiation was also very effective at inactivating the viruses. TGEV, PRV, PRoV, and PPV were completely inactivated to undetectable levels during the gamma irradiation. The mean log reduction factors achieved were $${\geq_-}4.65$$ for TGEV, $${\geq_-}5.87$$ for PRV, $${\geq_-}6.05$$ for PRoV, and $${\geq_-}4.89$$ for PPV. The cumulative log reduction factors achieved using the two different virus inactivation processes were $${\geq_-}9.30$$ for TGEV, $${\geq_-}11.68$$ for PRV, $${\geq_-}12.33$$ for PRoV, and $${\geq_-}10.10$$ for PPV. These results indicate that the manufacturing process for porcine bone HA from porcine-bone material has sufficient virus-reducing capacity to achieve a high margin of virus safety.
