The study subjects showed depression symptom most seriously and also had severe somatization symptom. Second, there was significant difference in mental health level by gender and education level among socio-demographic factors. Third, in the final regression model, statistically significant factors impacting on the mental health level of the elderly people living alone were life satisfaction, ADL, IADL, welfare service support, informal support, contact frequency with children, duration of living alone, subjective state of economy. And comprehensive(macro and micro) implications were recommended.

  • This study examined the level of reaction towards damage related to health foods and the factors affecting this reaction among the elderly. Data were collected from 269 elderly individuals living in Seoul, Daejeon, Daegu, Gwangju and Busan. Frequencies, chi-square tests, and a multinomial logistic regression analysis were performed using the SPSS v. 14.0 program. When asked about their reaction towards damage related to health foods, approximately 48% of the respondents answered 'no response', 34% answered 'private response', and 18% answered 'public response'. Multinomial logistic regression analysis revealed that education level and awareness of health food price were significant factors influencing 'private response', and concerns about health foods and awareness of damage redemption were significant factors for 'public response'. These results imply that consumer education for elderly to prevent damage derived from the purchase and consumption of health foods is required.

  • This study is conducted on 1,725 elderly people over 65 years of age using 2018 data obtained from the 7th National Health and Nutrition Survey (KNHANES) data. In this study, an analysis is performed considering the general characteristics of the elderly and their oral health status (authoring discomfort, speech problems, etc.) to confirm the relationship between the elderly's unmet dental experience and depressive experience. The results of this study showed that depressive experiences by the elderly resulted in unmet dental medical experiences, and it was also found that the income level and the complaint of chewing discomfort had an effect. Based on these results, it is believed that oral health policies should be developed to improve the unmet dental medical experience by considering the socio-economic level of the elderly and depressive experiences. This policy development is expected to lead not only to the improvement of oral health for the elderly, but also to improve the quality of life for the elderly through health promotion.

  • Purpose: this study was to compare the health service need according to residence characteristics. Method: The subjects consisted of 194 elderly people classified into two groups of living in community and living in institution. Data was collected from January to March, 2004 by a structured questionnaire that included general characteristics. health related variables, MMSE-K, nutritional status, pain, depression and ADL scale. The collected data was analyzed by the SPSS program including descriptive analysis, $X^2$ test, t-test and Pearsons Correlation Coefficient. Result In general characteristics, there were differences in religions and spouses and all the group of people were aged. In health related variables according to residential characteristics. cognitive level (MMSE-K) of the elderly living in institutions was lower than that of the elderly living in community and the group of living in institutions showed more than 'moderate level' of subjective and relative health perception and their ADL was confirmed to be more dependent. But there was no significant difference among depression, BMI, nutritional status, number of present disease and pain according to residence characteristics. It was identified that pain had) positive correlation with nutritional status. ADL, and the number of present disease, and ADL showed negative correlation with cognitive level. Subjective and relative health perception had positive correlation with depression and negative correlation with nutritional status. In conclusion. the need of the health service of the elderly identified according to residential characteristics showed differences only in cognition and ADL. The elderly living in institutions showed relatively poor results. Conclusion: The concern of nutritional status is necessary to increase health status for the elderly, especially more concern and support is necessary for the elderly living in community.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to understand the determinants of health-related quality of life (HRQOL) according to age groups in vulnerable elderly women. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study with 1,533 elderly women beneficiaries of the visiting health care program in Seoul. The participants were divided into three age groups: the young-old (n=753, 65-74 years), old-old (n=602, 75-84 years), and oldest-old (n=178, 85 years or older) groups. HRQOL was measured using the SF-8 questionnaire. Results: HRQOL was found to be worse in the oldest-old group (p=.007). Factors associated with HRQOL differ by age groups. In the young-old and old-old groups, higher HRQOL showed significant correlation with a higher level of self-rated health (SRH) and a lower level of depression, instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) dependence, and the number of chronic diseases. In addition, higher HRQOL was observed for elderly living alone than for those living with family. In the oldest group, higher HRQOL showed significant correlation with a lower level of depression, activities of daily living (ADL) dependence, and a higher level of SRH. Conclusions: In age specific groups, lower levels of HRQOL were observed for the oldest-old group than for the other age groups. Age group-specific nursing strategies may be required for improving HRQOL levels of vulnerable elderly women.

  • Objectives: Due to the assumptions of homogeneity as well as challenges in the socioeconomic position of the elderly, they have been relatively neglected in studies of health inequalities. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the social inequalities in preventive services among elderly men and women. Methods: Data were obtained from a nationally representative sample of 342 men and 525 women aged 65 and over collected during the 2001 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Age adjusted proportions and logistic regression were used to identify the social patterning of preventive services among elderly Koreans using various social position indicators. Results: The findings of this study generally supported the presence of social gradients in preventive services among the Korean elderly. The likelihood of using the service becomes progressively higher with social position. Educational level, income, and self-rated living status were significantly associated with increased medical checkups and cancer checks. In addition, logistic regression detected educational inequalities only among older women receiving BP checks. After being stratified based on health status and chronic disease status, social disparities still existed when educational level and self-rated living status were considered. Among unhealthy individuals, place of residence was observed as a barrier to medical checkups. Conclusions: This study demonstrated strong and consistent associations between socioeconomic position and preventive services among the elderly in Korea. The results indicate that public health strategies should be developed to reduce the barriers to preventive services encountered by the elderly.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of oral care behavior, oral health care self-efficacy, and social support on the subjective oral health level of the elderly. The data survey was conducted from September 17, 2019 to November 22, 2019 for the elderly living in Daejeon Metropolitan City and parts of Chungcheongnam-do, and the collected data were analyzed by 𝑥2-test, Pearson correlation analysis, and logistic regression analysis. As a result of the survey, subjective oral health level increased by 3.242 times when dentures were not used and 2.339 times when the number of brushings per day was 3 or more times. In addition, as the oral health care self-efficacy and social support increased 1.755 times and 1.192 times, respectively, the subjective oral health level also increased. Based on the above results, in order to improve the subjective oral health level of the elderly, opportunities for oral health education such as denture care methods and toothbrushing lessons should be expanded. In addition, there is a need to prepare policies to reinforce oral health care self-efficacy and social support.

The subjects of this study were 14,705 elderly people aged 65 years or older, of which 2,198 were male elderly and 12,507 were female elderly. Results: The factors influencing the happiness of both male and female elderly were household income, depression, subjective stress level, subjective health level, quality of life, and lack of required medical service experience (p<.05). In addition, the male elderly were affected by the age, and the female elderly were affected by education, sleep time, walking and breakfast practice, and health screening (p<.05).
