  • This study was designed to investigate the health information usage of immigrants. A questionnaire survey was conducted on 171 immigrants. Data was analyzed for descriptive statistics, chi-square test, and Fisher's exact test. The frequency of migrants' use of health information is low, and the number of respondents who use health information less than once a month is highest. There were statistically significant differences in the frequency of use of health information according to age, occupation, and those who contracted diseases. The main source of health information was the Internet, and there were differences in the sources of health information according to age and whether the Internet was used. Most of the respondents used health information for themselves, and there was a difference in the targets of using health information according having a cohabitee and the perceived health status. It was found that the majority of immigrants do not actively use health information. However, when the age increased or the immigrant was unhealthy, the use of health information increased to solve health problems. Therefore, it is important to provide health information in a variety of ways according to the characteristics of immigrants.

  • Purpose: Early diagnosis is the primary method aimed at controlling breast cancer. The purpose of this study was to analyze some factors affecting the performance of mammography screening among women with a family history of breast cancer in Korea. Methods: This study applied a descriptive design method through structured self-report questionnaires. The Care Seeking Behavior Theory provided a theoretical framework for the study. Factors measured in this study represent demographic, clinical, and psychosocial variables including anxiety, barriers, utility, habits, perception, and facilitators. A total of 212 participants, of at least 20 years old, were sampled from April 8, 2010 to March 31, 2011. The data was analyzed by logistic regression method using the Statistical Package for the Social Science 18.0 software. Results: Of the 212 participants, 122 women (57.5%) went through mammography screening. The results of the analysis showed that (a) age (Odds Ratio [OR] =1.10, p<.001), (b) facilitating influences (OR=1.83, p=.008), (c) perception of mammography importance (OR=1.92, p=.011), (d) barriers to mammography (OR=0.60, p=.031), and (e) utility of mammography (OR=2.01, p=.050) significantly affect mammography screening. Conclusion: The results underscore the impact that psychosocial variables in obtaining mammography have on adherence to screening. Women with a family history of breast cancer should be given accurate information and recommendation about mammography by healthcare provider and a regular source of healthcare.

  • The aim of this investigation was to delineate concepts contributing to the Exercise of Self-Care Agency (E.S.C.A.) Scale developed by Kearney & Fleischer (1979) and to test its construct validity and its predictors. The results are summarized as follows ; 1. By means of principal factor analysis and maximal likelihood factor analysis upon data generated from 280 undergraduate students, the factors of Concern about Health Knowledge, self-Concept, Information - Seeking Behavior, Decision -making and Responsibility, Self-esteem, and Passivity emerged. The total percent of variance explained by the 6 factors was 75.1% 2. To assess factor independence and instrument homogeneity, correlations among the 6 factors were computed. The correlations ranged from .24 to .46 indicating that the factors and the items were not too similar or redundant. 3. Test-retest reliability of the total scale is r=.70. Cronbach's $\alpha$ coefficient for internal consistency of the total scale is .86 and that of the factors ranged from .750 to .661 (only factor 6 .497). 4. In additional analysis of the Exercise of Self-Care Agency Scale in relationship to Multiple Health Locus of Control, Family Environmental Scale, and Cornell Medical Index using stepwise multiple regression, the Internal Health Locus of Control Score predicted 21.8%(F=53.34, p=.0001), Family Environmental Score 8.3%(F=22.59, P=.0001), Modified Cornell Medical Index Score 5.4%(F=15.74, P=.0001) of the score of the E.S.C.A.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of health lifestyle on high protein snack selection attributes and purchase behaviors among individuals aged 20-30 with high protein snack intake. In addition, the relationship between perception, attitude, satisfaction and recommendation of high protein snacks was invested. Finally, this study aims to provide basic information for marketing high-protein snacks and customized high protein snacks. Analysis of the selection attributes most important for healthy lifestyle, revealed significant differences among all groups excluding the external seeking group (p<0.001). The free living group regarded trust as one of the most important attributes of high protein snack selection, and both the tempered control group and the low-interest group found sensation and price factor to be important. Therefore, when developing high-protein snacks, it is important to determine which attributes of the snack will be highlighted by segmenting the consumer into health lifestyles. Focusing on what ingredients are used to develop high-protein snacks and nutritional ingredients is also important when targeting a free lifestyle group as the main customer. In addition, developing snacks that do not offer depending on the protein content is important when targeting a temperate management group or a low-interest group.

  • Purposes of this study were to identify the relationship among involvement in COVID-19 (IiC), attitude toward advertisement (AtA), and behavioral Intention to social distancing (BItSD), and to investigate the mediating effect of AtA in a loss versus gain advertising context. The participants were 379 adults who have been consecutively living in Korea since January 2020. The participants were randomly assigned to one of two advertisements using an online survey system. We found that IiC affects BItSD since Korean adults recognize the risks and seriousness of COVID-19 infection or transmission through IiC. Induced positive attitudes or emotions through involvement in the COVID-19 preventive behaviors including social distancing and vaccination are helpful to increase the BItSD. Thus, health care and information providers should give an accurate message, which induces a positive attitude, to recognize that our world is a risk of the COVID-19.

  • Purpose: This study examines the weight control behavior depending on university students' motives of using social media. Methods: The participants were 447 university students in the Jeonbuk area. Collected data were analyzed using factor analysis, cluster analysis, analysis of variance, and χ2 tests with SPSS v. 26.0. Considering the motives of using social media, we investigated the usage of social media, dietary behavior related to social media, and weight control behavior. Results: Using the K-clustering method, the motives to use social media were categorized into three clusters: cluster 1 was the interest-centered group, cluster 2 was the multipurpose information-seeking group, and cluster 3 was the relationship-centered group. Among the various social media sites, YouTube (86.8%), Instagram (76.1%), and Facebook (61.1%) were the most visited by the subjects. The dietary behavior related to social media in cluster 2 was significantly higher than clusters 1 and 3 (p < 0.001). Clusters 1 and 2 showed a significantly higher dissatisfaction with one's weight (p < 0.05) and consequent interest in weight control than cluster 3 (p < 0.001). Cluster 2 used weight control-related information from social media significantly more than other clusters (p < 0.05). Weight control experiences in cluster 1 and 2 were significantly higher than in cluster 3 (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Differences in dietary behavior related to social media and weight control behavior were observed between cluster types of motivation to use social media. Based on the usage motives of university students and their behaviors, we propose that educational programs should be conducted for weight control using social media.

  • This descriptive study was done to identify the relationship between coping style and trait anxiety in patients undergoing cardiac catheterization. The subjects selected were 69 patients who were scheduled for cardiac catheterization in S hospital from , November 1st, 1994 to May 30th, 1995. Data collection was done using Spielberger's Trait Anxiety Scale, Bendig's Short Form of the Manifest Anxiety Scale, Crowne & Morlowe's Social Desirability Scale, Millers Behavioral Style Scale, Information Subscale of Krantz Health Opinion Survey and Visual Analog Scale about informaton seeking behavior. The summary of the findings is as follows : 1. No significant relationship was found between the general characteristics of age, sex, marital status, level of education and occupation, and the variables coping style and trait anxiety. 2. The mean of trait anxiety scores for the Spielberger Scale was 46.68. It is slightly above average. The subjects were classified as to personality type: truely low anxious 25 (36.2%), highly anxious 25 (36.2%), and repressing 16 (23.2%), using a combination of scores from the Bendig Short Form Anxiety Scale and the Crowne Marlowe Social Desirability Scales. 3. No significant relationship was found between Spielberger s trait anxiety and Bendig's personality type. 4. Each subject's preference for either monitor or blunter coping strategy was assessed via the Miller Behavioral Style Scale. The proportion of Monitors (47.8%) and Blunters (52.2%) among the subjects were similar. The means of preference for information measured on the Krantz's subscale and Visual Analog Scale were 4.18, 80.79 respectively. Because these scores appeared above average, subjects tended to be higher seeker an information rather than avoiding it. 5. There was no significant relationship between Miller's Behavioral Style and Spielberger's trait anxiety. 6. There was no significant relationships between Bendig's personality types. and the preference on information of Krantz's and Visual Analog Scale. and Miller's Behavioral Styles. But 56.0% of the subjects who were highly anxious used Monitor strategy for coping. Findings from the current study do not permit any relationship inferences between coping style and trait anxiety. Patients undergoing cardiac catheterization must receive interventions on stress reduction because the cardiac 'catheterization creats a situation of psychological stress. Therefore, the nursing intervention of providing information about cardiac catheterization have to be given based on each patient's coping style and on their trait anxiety.

  • Authors studied the workers' knowledge about the health problems detected through the previous workers' periodic health examination, content of follow-up management ana actions taken for their health problem detected on previous health examination. From June to September 1992, workers' periodic health examination was peformed on workers employed in 10 companies located in 2 middle-sized Korean cities. A questionnaire survey was done far 150 workers who reported to have $D_2$ result of either hypertension or liver disorder at the previous workers' periodic health examination done in 1991. The results are as follows; 1. Of 160 workers who had $D_2$ result of either hypertension or liver disorder in previous examination one year before, only 85 workers(51.3%, 43 workers with hypertension, 38 workers with live disorder) responded that they have such disorders. The other 65 workers responded to questionnaire were all those with C results. Respondents' knowledge about their diagnoses was relatively precise (95.2% in hypertension group, 94.6% in liver disorder group) but knowledge about classification of diseases was poor. 2. The main efforts to solve the health problem nab self management (20 spells, 55.3%), visiting clinic or hospital(6 spells, 12.8%), use of herb medicine (2 spells, 4.3%) and use of drug store(2 spells, 4.3%) in hypertension group. In liver disorder group, 30 spells (71.4%) relied on self management,6 spells (14.3%) on hospital or clinic and 9 spells (21.4%) had no effort to improve the health problem. Content of self management was low salt diet, quit smoking, regular exercise and quit alcohol drinking in order. Avoidance of salt in diet was high in hypertension group and quitting alcohol drinking was high in liver disorder group. In those with self management, 80.7% of hypertension group and 83.3% of liver disorder group continued previous effort. Those, however, who utilized clinic or hospital, only 16.7% and 50.0% were still visiting hospital or clinic. 3. Fifty seven percent of hypertension group and 64.3% of liver disorder group was presently smoking,8.5% and 11.9% reduced smoking and 21.3% and 14.3% stopped smoking. Forty nine percent of hypertension group and 28.6% of liver disorder group was presently drinking. Reduced alcohol intake was reported in 29.8% and 40.5%, 12.8ole and 23.8% stopped alcohol drinking. Sixty six percent of hypertension group and 73.8% of liver disorder group did no regular exercise, but 12.8% and 11.9% of each group increased their physical exercise far last one year. Forty three percent of hypertension group and 38.l% of liver disorder group was overweight (defined by bodymass index greater or equal than 25). Reduced body Weight was reported in 17.2% and 16.7% of each group. Reduced dietary salt intake was high in hypertension group (51.5%). The study results suggest that follow-up management after workers' periodic health examination is not satisfactory. In order to improve this situation, adequate information on the result of the workers' periodic health examination should be distributed to each worker group with health education and counselling.
