Purpose: The aim of this study was to explore the association between psychosocial work environments and depressive symptoms among Korean registered nurses. Methods: The study population of 331 registered nurses was derived from the 2014 Korean Working Condition Survey (KWCS). Depressive symptom was assessed using the WHO-5 wellbeing index. Results: The thirty-five percentage of Korean registered nurses reported the risk for depressive symptom. Korean nurses with higher 'work-family conflict' were more likely at the risk of depression almost 1.83 (95% CI 1.04~3.20) times than their counterpart. Higher 'possibilities for development' were more likely decrease almost 60% of the risk of depressive symptom. Conclusion: Work-family conflict and possibility of development were associated with depressive symptom among Korean registered nurses. We suggest future researches identifying strategies for decreasing work-family conflict and its negative effects.
The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), including deep learning, has led to the development of technologies that may assist in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, prediction of disease risk and prognosis, health index monitoring, drug development, and healthcare management and administration. However, in order for AI technology to improve the quality of medical care, technical problems and the efficacy of algorithms should be evaluated in real clinical environments rather than the environment in which algorithms are developed. Further consideration should be given to whether these models can improve the quality of medical care and clinical outcomes of patients. In addition, the development of regulatory systems to secure the safety of AI medical technology, the ethical and legal issues related to the proliferation of AI technology, and the impacts on the relationship with patients also need to be addressed. Systematic training of healthcare personnel is needed to enable adaption to the rapid changes in the healthcare environment. An overall review and revision of undergraduate medical curriculum is required to enable extraction of significant information from rapidly expanding medical information, data science literacy, empathy/compassion for patients, and communication among various healthcare providers. Specialized postgraduate AI education programs for each medical specialty are needed to develop proper utilization of AI models in clinical practice.
The number of disasters caused by natural or human-made events such as earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, typhoons, industrial disasters, and the recent outbreak of COVID-19 has increased and the damage caused by such disasters is increasing every year. Disasters can cause physical destruction and also have unexpected psychological impacts, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Ear acupuncture is a treatment modality that can be helpful for both physical and mental health problems. Since ear acupuncture is a cost-effective, flexible, and safe treatment tool, it has the potential to provide medical assistance in disasters. The National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) auricular acupuncture protocol, originally developed for addiction treatment, has been used for mental illness and behavioral symptoms in both community health settings and in a variety of disaster, terror, and refugee settings. In this review, we introduced the NADA protocol, including its history, features, training, clinical evidence, and cases in disaster settings, suggesting that the NADA protocol could be utilized as a disaster medical support model in Korean medicine.
This study investigates the moderation effect that organizational trust had on the relationship between perceptions of organizational politics and organizational commitment, intention to turnover, organizational citizenship behavior by analyzing the empirical data of 716 personnels collected from university hospital in Korea. We hypothesized that perceptions of organizational politics would tended to negatively related to a high level of organizational commitment and intention to turnover, organizational citizenship behaviors, and that organizational trust would moderate the relationship between perceptions of organizational politics and outcomes. These results suggest that organizational politics of perceptions had negative impacts on organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behaviors, while perceptions of organizational politics had positive impact on intention to turnover. Furthermore, the level of organizational trust moderated the relationship between perceptions of organizational politics and outcomes. Based on these findings, implications of the research findings are discussed, and recommendation for future research and practice are provided.

Purpose: To investigate the relationships among self-esteem, depression and academic achievement in nursing college students. Method: The study subjects consisted of 350 nursing college students. The data were collected by self-administered questionnaire from September 3rd to 28th 2007. Results: 1) The mean scores self-esteem, depression, and academic achievement were 3.03 (on a 4-point scale), 4.00 (on a 7-point scale), and 87.33 (on a 100-point scores), respectively. 2) There were significant differences and impacts on self-esteem according to the economic state, character, attitude to parents, consideration of aptitude, satisfaction of school life and satisfaction of nursing. Depression differed significantly according to the economic state, residence type and satisfaction of school life. Academic achievement differed depending on the attitude to parents, consideration of aptitude and satisfaction of nursing. There was a significant positive correlation between self-esteem and academic achievement, but a negative correlation between self-esteem and depression in nursing college students. Conclusion: There was a positive correlation between self-esteem and academic achievement. Moreover, self-esteem can provide a basis for constructing further studies in intervention programs relating to the curriculum for nursing college students. Based on the above findings, programs are needed for the improvement of self-esteem and the reduction of depression, and further research is suggested on the development of such programs.
