This study aimed at examining participation rate in taking health examinations. abnormal findings. and recognition and responses for re-examination recommendation among junior students at a university. Data were collected by interviews and self-reports between March and April. 2000. five months after receiving findings of health examinations. Question items in the questionnaire were made by the researchers. Participation rate for the health examination was $22.5\%$ of all registered junior students: $25.4\%$ for men and $16.6\%$ for women. College of medicine ranked the first in the participation rate. Of the examinees. $22.8\%$ showed abnormal findings. Of those students with abnormal findings. 149 students who were registered at the time of data collection became the subjects of the present study. The average age of the subjects was 23.7 years. The proportion of those with very good or. good self-evaluated physical health was $24.1\%$. while the proportion for mental health was $55.1\%$. The most prevalent problem for men was liver problem and for women anemia. More than $92\%$ of the subjects were aware of their abnormal findings. Those who sought advice were $71.8\%$ and their parents were most frequently asked for advice. As for the contents. $33.7\%$ were advised to visit a hospital. Of the 65 students recommended for re-examination. $60.9\%$ with liver problems took re-examination. while $37.2\%$ with urine problems. The multiple responses of the reasons for not following the recommendation for re-examination were 'not a serious problem $(63.9\%)$,' 'having no time $(22.2\%)$,' Students' recognition of the importance of health examination should be raised to increase their participation rate. When abnormal findings were detected. parents need to be informed for achieving adequate follow-up. All the students with abnormal findings need to be consulted by university health personnel to facilitate proper actions.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the association between exposure to occupational hazards and the metabolic syndrome. A secondary objective was to analyze the additive and multiplicative effects of exposure to risk factors. Methods: This retrospective cohort was based on 31,615 health examinees at the Pusan National University Yangsan Hospital in Republic of Korea from 2012-2021. Demographic and behavior-related risk factors were treated as confounding factors, whereas three physical factors, 19 organic solvents and aerosols, and 13 metals and dust were considered occupational risk factors. Time-dependent Cox regression analysis was used to calculate hazard ratios. Results: The risk of metabolic syndrome was significantly higher in night shift workers (hazard ratio = 1.45: 95% confidence interval = 1.36-1.54) and workers who were exposed to noise (1.15:1.07-1.24). Exposure to some other risk factors was also significantly associated with a higher risk of metabolic syndrome. They were dimethylformamide, acetonitrile, trichloroethylene, xylene, styrene, toluene, dichloromethane, copper, antimony, lead, copper, iron, welding fume, and manganese. Among the 28 significant pairs, 19 exhibited both positive additive and multiplicative effects. Conclusions: Exposure to single or combined occupational risk factors may increase the risk of developing metabolic syndrome. Working conditions should be monitored and improved to reduce exposure to occupational hazards and prevent the development of the metabolic syndrome.
The purpose of this study is to find a way to increase the examination rate by presenting the current state of national health examination. To this end, demographic factors(Gender, age, income level, education level) and health factors(Smoking, alcohol, obesity, subjective health status) were selected, and whether the selected factors were different for each group, and the examinees according to the number of hospitals and income level were visualized. As a result, except for subjective health status in health factors, population factors, and number of hospitals were all related to the examination. In addition, among the age factors of the demographic factor, those in their twenties and those with a low income level and those who were underweight among the health factors of obesity had a high rate of non-testing. Therefore, it is considered necessary to promote, support, and educate those untested by these groups.

The purpose of this study was to estimate the change of prevalence rate of obesity, also to know the relevant factors for 10 years in korean adults, which targets on the 5,420(4,556 men and 864 women) people who had undergone one biennial medical health check-up through the National Health Insurance Corporation from 1997 to 2007. As a results, the prevalence rate of obesity increased 11.0% point from 20.9% in the initial year(1997) to 31.9% in the final year(2007) for the recent decades and this is related to the socio-demographic characteristics, health-related, and eating habits.
Objective : We assessed the life-time prevalence (LTP) of chronic low back pain (LBP) in young Korean males. We also evaluated the relationship between lumbar spinal lesions and their health related quality-of-life (HRQOL). Methods : A cross-sectional, self-reported survey was conducted in Korean males (aged 19-year-old) who underwent physical examinations for the conscript. We examined 3331 examinees in November 2014. We included 2411 subjects, who accepted to participate this study without any comorbidities. We interviewed using simple binary questions for their LBP experience and chronicity. HRQOL was assessed by Short-Form Health-Survey-36 (SF-36) in chronic LBP and healthy control groups. Radiological assessment was performed in chronic LBP group to determine whether there were any pathological causes of their symptoms. Results : The LTP of chronic LBP was 13.4%. Most (71.7%) of them didn't have any lumbar spinal lesions (i.e., non-specific chronic LBP). The SF-36 subscale and summary scores were significantly lower in subjects with chronic LBP. Between specific and non-specific chronic LBP group, all physical and mental subscale scores were significantly lower in specific chronic LBP group, except mental health (MH) subscale score. In MH subscale and mental component summary score, statistical significant differences didn't appear between two groups (p=0.154, 0.126). Conclusion : In Korean males 19 years of age, the LTP of chronic LBP was 13.4%, and more than two-thirds were non-specific chronic LBP. Chronic LBP had a significant impact on HRQOL. The presence of lumbar spinal pathoanatomical lesions affected mainly on the physical aspect of HRQOL. It influenced little on the mental health.
This study examined changes of elementary school students' knowledge and attitudes toward AIDS after AIDS health educational programs were conducted. The experiment was executed from November the 28th, 2001 to February the 6th, 2002. Study examinees were 156 fifth year students of 2 elementary schools located at S City. A preliminary inspection was implemented. The post-examination was conducted by a questionnaire survey 2 weeks and 9 weeks after the program was finished. The measurement instrument was the questionnaire developed by Yun, Hyun Sik(1997) and modified by this researcher. Collected data were analyzed with SPSS program package, $x^2$-test and t-test, Repeated Measure ANOVA. Findings of study are as follows; 1. Hypothesis 1 ; the hypothesis 1 is "The points of AIDS knowledge are different at each moment, before conducting the educational program, 2 weeks after conducting the educational program, and 9 weeks after conducting the educational program". After the above hypothesis was examined, interactive actions were shown among different periods in both groups (F=267.241, p=.000), so that this hypothesis 1 was approved. 2. Hypothesis 2 ; the hypothesis 2 is "The points of attitudes toward AIDS are different at each moment, before conducting the educational program, 2 weeks after conducting the educational program, and 9 weeks after conducting the educational program". It was closely examined, and the findings are that significant differences between two groups were found, whereas any interactions were not shown between two groups(F=3.753, p=.055), after controlling the attitude scores that showed differences before the education by covariable, and examining the results. so that this hypothesis 2 was rejected. The above study tells that the AIDS health education for elementary school students made their knowledge and attitudes change significantly, but the education was not effective for changing students' attitudes. Elementary school students need more systematic and continual AIDS health education.

Background: Cardio-cerebrovascular diseases (CVDs) are the most common cause of death worldwide. Various CVD risk assessment tools have been developed. In South Korea, the Korea Occupational Safety & Health Agency (KOSHA) and the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) have provided CVD risk assessments with health checkups. Since 2018, the KOSHA guide has stated that NHIS CVD risk assessment tool could be used as an alternative of KOSHA assessment tool for evaluating CVD risk of workers. The objective of this study was to determine the correlation and agreement between the KOSHA and the NHIS CVD risk assessment tools. Methods: Subjects of this study were 17,485 examinees aged 20 to 64 years who had undergone medical examinations from January 2021 to December 2021 at a general hospital. We classified subjects into low-risk, moderate-risk, high-risk, and highest-risk groups according to KOSHA and NHIS's CVD risk assessment tools. We then compared them with cross-analysis, Spearman correlation analysis, and linearly weighted kappa coefficient. Results: The correlation between KOSHA and NHIS tools was statistically significant (p-value < 0.001), with a correlation coefficient of 0.403 and a kappa coefficient of 0.203. When we compared risk group distribution using KOSHA and NHIS tools, CVD risk of 6,498 (37.1%) participants showed a concordance. Compared to the NHIS tool, the KOSHA tool classified 9,908 (56.7%) participants into a lower risk category and 1,079 (6.2%) participants into a higher risk category. Conclusions: In this study, KOSHA and NHIS tools showed a moderate correlation with a fair agreement. The NHIS tool showed a tendency to classify participants to higher CVD risk group than the KOSHA tool. To prevent CVD more effectively, a higher estimation tool among verified CVD risk assessment methods should be selected and managements such as early intervention and treatment of risk factors should be performed targeting the high-risk group.
Purpose: Sasang constitutional medicine is Korea's creative medical science, that has attracted public attention. But for lack of indices in objectifying constitutions, there are difficulties for most of health professionals in approaching Sasang medicine. The purpose of this study was to compare the results of clinical diagnostic data according to the type of Sasang constitution. Method: The subjects were 195 examinees who had a general health check-up at A hospital. The instrument used for this study were Questionnaire of Sasang Constitution Class II(QSCCII) program for personal computer developed by Kim Sun Ho et al. Result: The distribution of constitutions of the subjects were the So-eum 46.7%, the Tae-eum 36.9% and the So-yang 16.4%. The level of body compositionrelated indices(body weight, obesity) of the Tae-eum were significantly higher than those of other constitutions. In heart-related indices, systolic BP were the highest in the Tae-eum. In liver-related indices, the level of triglyceride, SGPT were significantly higher in the Tae-eum. But the hematologic indices and lung-related indices were not showed significantly difference among any constitutions. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that there were significant difference of clinical diagnostic data according to Sasang constitutions, especially in the Tae-eum. So, to understand the human nature of nursing clients, nurses need to apply the oriental based medical theory, like Sasang constitution, to the discipline of nursing.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the prevalence and risk factors of colon polyps. Methods: The subjects were 180 adults enrolled from examinees who underwent colonoscopy at the health promotion center and OPD in Ulsan University Hospital. The risk factors were collected by a self-reporting standardized questionnaire and medical records. Data analysis involved chi-square test, and multiple logistic regression. Results: The prevalence of colon polyps was 41.6%. The risk factors for colon polyps were significantly increased by the cases of subjects more than 50 years old (OR, 9.213; CI, 3.291-25.789), subjects who didn't have any regular high-intensity exercise (OR, 4.762; CI, 1.387-16.351), subjects whose intake of fruits was less than once per a week (OR, 5.938; CI, 1.069-32.985) and subjects who showed irregular defecation (OR, 3.066; CI, 1.178-7.980). Conclusion: This study suggests that eating habits and proper exercise, which promote a normal habit of defecation so as to be helpful in preventing colon polyps.

The aim of this study was to survey the presenting visual acuity (VA) and satisfaction of VA tests in health checkups and to suggest ways in which eye care can be improved. VA data were obtained from the results of the health checkups for Korean adults in 2002-2007. Satisfaction questionnaires were administered via direct interview with 173 participants who had health checkups. The prevalence of VA 0.5-1.4 was 76.24%. Women had a higher prevalence than men below VA 0.9 and men had a higher prevalence than women above VA 1.0. The change in VA with age had a tendency to decrease after forties. Findings for satisfaction of VA tests on health checkups showed a level of neutral agreement. In order to enhance satisfaction, it is important that vision testing should provide examinees with referral criterion and follow-up VA results. It is also necessary to have comprehensive eye examination and utilize optometric instruments and professional examiners.
