The KISTI (Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information) began to produce the Korean human information called Visible Korean and Digital Korean since 2000 because there was no human information in Korea which could represent the physical characteristics of Korean human body. The Visible Korean consists of CT, MR, sectioned and segmented images of Korean human body. We obtained the serially sectioned images by grinding the Korean cadaver in horizontal direction and segmented these images by outlining the inner organs of human. We have produced the sectioned images of Korean male whole body, male head, and female pelvis in2008. The segmentation and 3D reconstruction of these images are now in proceeding. The Digital Korean consists of CT images of about 100 Korean cadavers. These CT images were segmented by individual bone, reconstructed to produce the 3D bone models and the skin surface model was also added. The mechanical properties of individual bones were obtained by measuring the property of individual bone sample. We have distributed these Korean human informations to users in domestic and abroad. About 70 institutes in domestic, and 20 institutes in abroad have used our data in research use and nearly 160 proceedings and articles were published since 2001. We think these human informations have a role of medical information infrastructure that could be used in the field of medical education, biomechanics, virtual reality etc.
This study compared 14 programs for the economically disadvantaged or minority students with potentials in 5 countries - US, UK, Germany, Australia, and Israel, attempting contents and characters of Korean Head Start to be developed, that is the program for economically disadvantaged gifted students or students from multi-cultural families, who are gifted at risk of under-representation and under-achievement. School wide enrichment programs, which served all students with gifted programs, using RTI model in the pursuit of equity and excellence, turned out to be effective as early interventions and identification implemented for economically disadvantaged or minority students with potentials. Gifted programs for low Social Economic Status (SES) or minority students played a role as a bridge for disadvantaged students to get into a regular gifted program or even higher gifted schools and to have a competency to compete with affluent gifted students. The principles of the programs were acceleration and differentiation. Most programs also ran a parents' education and a mentor program to motivate and support disadvantaged students socially and emotionally. Collaboration among governmental offices and usage of external resources were more effective to support these students and the programs.

Optimal Pressable Ceramic is one of the all-ceramic restorations with a shaded translucent pressed core and layering porcelains. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the marginal fidelity according to margin types and measurement sites, and to evaluate fracture strength according to margin types. Twenty seven OPC crowns made according to 3 types of cervical finishing lines were used in this study. Marginal gaps were measured before and after cementation. A Steromicroscope(SZ-ST(R), Olympus, Japan) was used to measure the space between the margin of OPC crown and the finishing line of metal model. Marginal gaps were measured at the labial, mesial, lingual and distal site, which were demonstrated in advance. Fracture strength testing was carried out using an Instron(Model M100EC, Mecmesin, England) at a cross head speed of 5 mm/min. All crowns were loaded until catastrophic failures occurred. The result were as follow: 1. In comparison according to variable margin before cementation, the marginal gap were increased in chamfer margin($47.50{\pm}18.39{\mu}m$), $120^{\circ}$shoulder margin ($55.21{\pm}14.4{\mu}m$) and $90^{\circ}$shoulder margin($71.18{\pm}13.30{\mu}m$) in ascending order, and there were significant differences between chamfer margin and $90^{\circ}$shoulder margin, $120^{\circ}$shoulder margin and between $120^{\circ}$shoulder margin and $90^{\circ}$shoulder margin respectively(p<0.05). 2. In comparison according to variable margin after cementation, the gap discrepancies were increased in chamfer margin($60.78{\pm}30.37{\mu}m$), $120^{\circ}$shoulder margin($66.67{\pm}11.18{\mu}m$) and $90^{\circ}$shoulder margin($85.78{\pm}17.23{\mu}m$) in ascending order, but there was significant difference only between chamfer margin and $90^{\circ}$shoulder margin(p<0.05). 3. Labio-lingual points showed a better marginal fidelity than that of proximal point(p<0.05). 4. Chamfer margin($48.76{\pm}8.45kgf$) showed higher fracture strength than $120^{\circ}$ shoulder margin($40.57{\pm}7.90kgf$) and $90^{\circ}$ shoulder margin(32.7.90kgf) (p<0.05), but there was significant difference only between chamfer margin and $90^{\circ}$ shoulder margin(p<0.05).
Presented in this paper is a brief summary of the basic theory and observation from a laboratory investigation aimed at determining flow characteristics and ice jam topography in a sinuous channel, and in a single-bend channel. The sinuous channel comprised thirteen $90^{\circ}$ bends and was of comparatively small s\aspect ratio. The single-bend channel was a $180^{\circ}$ bend, which was an order of magnitude large in width as well as aspect ratios than the sinuous channel. The simulated ices were polyethylene and polypropylene beads and block. The streamwise velocities near the bottom were larger than that of surface in sinuous channel and forming ice jam in sinuous channel, this phenoumena were found strongly. Jams were generally thicker along the inner bank of bends. The path of maximum-streamwise velocity was displaced towards approachs side of the inner bank of bends. Radial variation of jam thickness was to be regular by increasing size of ice fragments. The rate of jam head progression around outer bank of the single bend was faster than that of inner bank and its velocity was roughly steady. With increasing Froude number, jm thickness became less uniformly distributed; being generally thicker along the inner bank and near the jam's toe. Two-layer model might be adaptable for the computing the streamwise velocity in shallow river bends. Two cells of secondary flow cound be expected in ice covered-river bends.
As wind turbines become larger and lighter, they are likely to respond sensitively by dynamic loads applied on them. Since the responses at resonances are particularly interested, it is required to be able to predict natural frequencies of wind turbines reliably at early design stage. To achieve this, the foundation-soil analysis is needed to be carried out and a finite element approach is adopted in general. However, the finite element approach would not be appropriate in early design stage because it demands heavy efforts in pile-soil modelling and computing facilities. On the contrary, theoretical approaches adopting linear approximations for soils are relatively simple and easy to handle. Therefore, they would be a useful tool in predicting a pile-soil interaction, particularly in early design stage. In this study an analysis for a pile inserted in soil is performed. The pile and soil are modelled as a beam and continuum medium, respectively, within an elastic range. In this analysis, influence factors at the pile head for lateral loads are predicted by means of this continuum approach for various length-diameter ratios of the pile. The influence factors predicted are validated with those reported in literature, proposed from a finite element analysis.
The extraction of face regions is required for Head Gesture Interface which is a natural user interface. Recently, many researchers are interested in using color information to detect face regions in image sequences. Two most widely used color models, HSI color model and YIQ color model, were selected for this study. Actually H-component of HSI and I-component of YIQ are used in this research. Given the difference in the color component, this study was aimed to compare the performance of face region detection between the two models. First, we search the optimum range of facial color for each color component, examining the detection accuracy of facial color regions for variant threshold range about facial color. And then, we compare the accuracy of the face box for both color models by using optimal facial color and motion information. As a result, a range of $0^{\circ}{\sim}14^{\circ}$ in the H-component and a range of $-22^{\circ}{\sim}-2^{\circ}$ in the I-component appeared to be the most optimum range for extracting face regions. When the optimal facial color range is used, I-component is better than H-component by about 10% in accuracy to extract face regions. While optimal facial color and motion information are both used, I-component is also better by about 3% in accuracy to extract face regions.

Recently, the research on renewable energy against depletion of fossil fuel have been actively carried out in the world. Especially, offshore wind turbines are very economical and innovative technology. However, offshore wind turbines experience large base moments due to the wind and wave loading, so the monopile with large diameter needs to be applied. For the economical design of the large diameter pile, it is important to consider the flexibility of the foundation to estimate the maximum moment accurately, based on studies conducted so far. In this paper, the foundation was modeled using the finite element method in order to better describe the large diameter effect of a monopile and the results were compared with those of p-y method. For the examples studied in this paper, the change in maximum moment was insignificant, but the maximum tilt angle from the finite element method was over 14% larger than that of p-y method. Therefore, the finite element approach is recommended to model the flexibility effect of the pile when large tilt angles may cause serviceability issues.

Slot coating process, in continuous and patch modes, has been applied for the many precise coating products, e.g., flat panel displays and second batteries. However, manufacturing uniform coating products is not a trivial task at high-speed operations because various flow instabilities or defects such as leaking, bubbles, ribbing, and rivulets are frequently observed in this process. It is no wonder, therefore, that many efforts to understand the various aspects of dynamics and coating windows of this process have been made both in academia and industry. In this study, as the first topic, flow dynamics within the coating bead in slot coating process has been investigated using the one-dimensional viscocapillary model by lubrication approximation and two-dimensional model by Flow-3D software. Especially, operability windows in both 1D and 2D cases with various slot die lip designs have been successfully portrayed. Also, effects of process conditions like viscosity and coating gap size on slot coating window have been analyzed. Also, some experiments to find minimum coating thickness and coating windows have been conducted using slot die coater implemented with flow visualization device, corroborating the numerical results. As the second topic, flow dynamics of both Newtonian and Non-Newtonian fluids in patch or pattern slot coating process, which is employed in manufacturing IT products such as secondary batteries, has been investigated for the purpose of optimal process designs. As a matter of fact, the flow control in this system is more difficult than in continuous case because od its transient or time-dependent nature. The internal die and die lip designs for patterned uniform coating products have been obtained by controlling flow behaviors of coating liquids issuing from slot. Numerical simulations have been performed using Fluent and Flow-3D packages. Flow behavior and pressure distribution inside the slot die has been compared with various die internal shapes and geometries. In the coating bead region, efforts to reduce irregular coating defects in head and tail parts of one patterned coating unit have been tried by changing die lip shapes. It has been concluded that optimal die internal design gas been developed, guaranteeing uniform velocity distribution of both Newtonian and shear thinning fluids at the die exit. And also optimal die lip design has been established, providing the longer uniform coating layer thickness within one coating unit.

The excavation damaged zone (EDZ) is an area around an excavation where in situ rock mass properties, stress condition. displacement. groundwater flow conditions have been altered due to the excavation. Various studies have been carried out on EDZ, but most studies have been focused on the mechanical bahavior of EDZ by in situ experiment. Even though the EDZ could potentially form a high permeable pathway of groundwater flow, only a few studies were performed on the analysis of groundwater flow in EDZ. In this study, the' hydraulic EDZ' was defined as the rock Lone adjacent to the excavation where the hydraulic aperture has been changed due to the excavation. And hydraulic EDZ (hydraulic aperture changed zone) estimated by two-dimensional DEM program was considered in three-dimensional DFN model. From this approach the groundwater flow characteristics corresponding to hydraulic aperture change were examined. Together. a parametric study was performed to examine the boundary conditions that frequently used in DFN analysis such as constant head or constant flux condition. According to the numerical analysis, hydraulic aperture change induced by the hydraulic-mechanical interaction becomes one of the most important factors Influencing the hydraulic behavior of jointed rock masses. And also from this study, we suggest the proper boundary condition in three-dimensional DFN model.

This paper addresses an approach that recommends investment types for stock investors by discovering useful rules from past changing patterns of stock prices in databases. First, we define a new rule model for recommending stock investment types. For a frequent pattern of stock prices, if its subsequent stock prices are matched to a condition of an investor, the model recommends a corresponding investment type for this stock. The frequent pattern is regarded as a rule head, and the subsequent part a rule body. We observed that the conditions on rule bodies are quite different depending on dispositions of investors while rule heads are independent of characteristics of investors in most cases. With this observation, we propose a new method that discovers and stores only the rule heads rather than the whole rules in a rule discovery process. This allows investors to define various conditions on rule bodies flexibly, and also improves the performance of a rule discovery process by reducing the number of rules. For efficient discovery and matching of rules, we propose methods for discovering frequent patterns, constructing a frequent pattern base, and indexing them. We also suggest a method that finds the rules matched to a query issued by an investor from a frequent pattern base, and a method that recommends an investment type using the rules. Finally, we verify the superiority of our approach via various experiments using real-life stock data.
