Objective: Despite reliable evidence of abnormal scapular motions increases, there is not yet sufficient evidence of abnormal humeral translations. This study aims to analyze the motion of the humeral head toward the scapula when the shoulder is actively abducted using the C-arm. Design: A case report. Methods: The participant was a healthy man without any limitation and pain during shoulder movement. The participant's shoulder was abducted; this movement in the frontal plane was measured using a C-arm (anterior-posterior view) and was analyzed with computer-aided design. The starting posture was $15^{\circ}$, and as the participant abducted his shoulder measurements were taken and analyzed at $30^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$, $120^{\circ}$, $150^{\circ}$, and ending at $165^{\circ}$. A line was drawn perpendicularly to the line connecting the humeral head axis to the glenoid, and another line was drawn perpendiculary to the line connecting the scapular axis to the glenoid. The distance between the two lines measured is defined as the e value. Results: At the starting posture ($15^{\circ}$), the central axis of the humeral head was located 1.92 mm inferior to the central axis of the scapula. The humeral head was superiorly translated from the starting posture to $120^{\circ}$, and then, showed an inferior translation to the ending posture ($165^{\circ}$). Conclusions: The results of this study showed that the humeral head moved upward from the starting posture ($15^{\circ}$) up to $120^{\circ}$ indicating, superior translation, and it moved downward when the posture was past $120^{\circ}$, indicating inferior translation.
This study was to find out the effect of cervical and thoracic stretching and strengthening exercise program on forward head posture. 32 adults had forward head posture were selected as the subjects for the study. The training program of the exercise group(n=16) consist of postural education with exercise program, subjects in the control group(n=16) participated in a postural education only. Postural measurements of Craniovertebral Angle(CVA) and Cranial Rotation Angle(CRA) were obtained from the using x-ray and PACS(Picture Archiving and Communications System) ${\pi}view^{TM}$. The results were compared with change of CVA and CRA exercise group were significant(p<.05) compared to the control group. However CRA of contol group was significant(P<.05). Also, there were no significant difference(p>.05) between groups on any pre-test measure. however there were significant difference(p<.05) between groups on CVA and CRA post-test measure. This study showed that cervical and thoracic stretching and strengthening exercise program can improve spinal posture alignment for decreasing forward head posture in subjects. These results can be fundamental data for further development of exercise program in interventions of postural improvement.

Background and Objectives : It has been pointed out that alcohol intake in human beings induces changes in voice register and maximum phonation time. These changes supposedly result from injection of the vibratory vocal folds. The purpose of this study was to clarify the voice changes associated with alcohol intake and the changes of laryngeal mucosa. Materials and Methods : The subjects included 29 volunteers, including 20 men and 9 women ranging in age from 22 to 31 years. Alcohol intake was accomplished by oral administration of 23% soju 1 bottle (255cc). Serum alcohol concentration levels were evaluated hourly for 3 h after ingestion of alcohol. Seven measurements were performed at pre-alcohol intake and post-alcohol intake hourly : fundamental frequency, jitter, shimmer, noise to harmonic ratio as the acoustic analysis, maximal phonation time, mean flow rate, and subglottal pressure as the aerodynamic analysis. The changes of laryngeal mucosa were evaluated by flexible laryngoscope at each measurement. Results : By comparing the acoustic and aerodynamic data and laryngeal mucosa before and after alcohol intake, there were not remarkable changes (p>0.05). Conclusion : The voice and laryngeal mucosa have not remarkably changed according to alcohol concentration in this study. Furthermore studies on the voice change induced by multiple alcohol concentrations are required.
In this study, random flow field in a nonstationary porous formation is characterized through cross covariances of the velocity with the log conductivity and the head. The hydraulic head and the velocity in saturated aquifers are found through stochastic analysis of a steady, two-dimensional flow field without recharge. Expression for these cross covariances are obtained in quasi-analytic forms all in terms of the parameters which characterize the nonstationary conductivity field and the average head gradient. The cross covariances with a Gaussian correlation function for the log conductivity are presented for two particular cases where the trend is either parallel or perpendicular to the mean head gradient and for separation distances along and across the mean flow direction. The results may be of particular importance in transport predictions and conditioning on field measurements when the log conductivity field is suspected to be nonstationary and also serve as a benchmark for testing nonstationary numerical codes. Keywords : cross covariance, nonstationary conductivity field, saturated aquifer, stochastic analysis.

Background: This study was carried out to investigate the effect of mulligan taping group and repeated measurement group on muscle activity and grip strength of adult with forward head posture. Methods: Thirty adults with forward head posture were randomly assigned to each of 15 mulligan taping and repeat measurement groups. The mulligan taping group measured the pre-test and post-test muscle activity and the grip strength three times and compared the mean values. The repeat group was repeatedly measured and measured before and after the experiment, The collected data were analyzed using SPSS statistical program. Results: There was no significant difference between mulligan taping group and repeated measurement group in changes of muscle activity. There was a significant difference between mulligan taping group and repeated measurement group in changes of grip strength. Conclusions: Mulligan taping was applied to an adult with forward head posture, there was no significant change in muscle activity of flexor carpi radialis and palmaris longus, but it seems to improve hand function by re-aligned of nearby muscles by maintaining scapular stability.

Purpose : This study applied general training (control group) or cranio-cervical flexor training (experimental group) using a pressure biofeedback unit along with general training for 4 weeks to secondary school teachers with moderate to severe neck pain and forward head posture. After that, we tried to compare the effects through differences in neck pain intensity (using numberical rating scale), functional performance (using neck disability index), and cranio-vertebral angle change. Methods : All 50 subjects were randomly assigned to either the "experimental group (n= 25)" or the "control group (n= 25)", and the measurements were evaluated in the same way before the intervention (baseline) and after the intervention (4 weeks). During the intervention period, the subject visited the physiotherapy center and made a reservation three times a week at a fixed time as much as possible, and each training session was thoroughly conducted under the 1:1 guidance of the therapist in charge so that the correct movement and number of times could be performed without compensatory action. Results : As a result of the homogeneity analysis on the general characteristics of the subjects, there were no significant differences between the groups in all variables (p>.05). Compared to the "control group", the "experimental group" showed significant improvement after intervention in all measured variables of neck pain intensity, functional performance, and cranial-vertebral angle (p<.05). Conclusion : For secondary school teachers with forward head accompanied by neck pain, cranio-cervical flexor training using a compression biofeedback unit is an excellent method to show superior pain reduction and functional performance improvement compared to general training alone. In addition, it can be presented as a more effective intervention method that can promote recovery of forward head posture, which is an essential element of the solution.
Sandy soils obtained from the field were examined by the way of particle analyses. The hydraulic conductivity values of the disturbed soil samples were measured by the falling head method. Then the correlations between the hydraulic conductivity and particle distribution were defined. The soil which was a product of the weathering of the granitic rocks belonged to sand and loamy sand area in a sand-silt-clay triangular diagram. The measurements of hydraulic conductivity were $1.15X10^{-5}\sim7.31X10^{-4}cm/sec$ which is the range of sand and silt. It was clearly observed that the hydraulic conductivity measurements of the sandy soils showed stronger correlations with the particle variances rather than the mean grain sizes. The larger the variances, the smaller the hydraulic conductivity measurements. The sandy soil which was a product of weathered granite and whose mean grain size was $0.38\sim1.97mm$ showed regression curves of $y=6.0E-5x^{-1.4}$ in a correlations between hydraulic conductivity and particle variances. Accordingly, it is clearly concluded that making estimates with-out any consideration about particle variances can produce serious errors.
Numerical measurements were made for fresh weight, body length and width, head width, and color and length of antenna of Japanese pine sawyer, Monochamus alternatus adults, a primary vector of pine wood nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus in Korea. We measured 563 females and 601 males that emerged out of dead pine logs from 2001 to 2002. General linear model analysis showed that measurements of fresh weight, body length, and body width were significantly higher in females than in males. Head width was not significantly different between sexes. Antennal length of males was significantly longer than that of females. For females and males respectively, average fresh weights were 0.305g and 0.277g, body lengths 20.97mm and 19.93mm, body widths 6.52mm and 6.18mm, head widths 3.78mm and 3.70mm, and antennal lengths 31.19mm and 45.49 mm. Antennal length or ratio of antennal length to body length overlapped in some ranges between 2 sexes. Therefore antennal length itself or ratio of antennal length to body length could not be used as a definite criterion to discriminate sexes. However, check on color of the antennae of 4,033 adults revealed without exception that basal part of every segment of flagellum of female antenna was covered with whitish-grey hairs, while whole part of every segment of male flagellum was covered with brownish-black hairs. This characteristics might be a best way to differentiate sex of this species.
