  • In this paper, we present an active anti-islanding method with a load monitoring system using reactive power control. The proposed method, which is based on reactive power control, has fewer harmonics components than those in conventional methods, and it can minimize the reactive power component of the grid because it compensates the reactive power component with the load monitoring. The proposed quick islanding detection method was confirmed from the experimental results with an inverter for a 3kW photovoltaic system.

  • In this paper, the induction motor rotor fault diagnosis system using current signals, which are measured using axis-transformation method, and speed, which is estimated using current information, are presented. In inverter-fed motor drives unlike line-driven motor drives the stator currents have numerous harmonics components and therefore fault diagnosis using stator currents is very difficult. The current and speed signal for rotor fault diagnosis needs to be precise. Also, high resolution information, which means the diagnosis system, demands additional hardware such as low pass filter, high resolution ADC, encoder and etc. Therefore, the proposed axis-transformation and speed estimation method are expected to contribute to low cost fault diagnosis systems in inverter-fed motor drives without the need for an encoder and any additional hardware. In order to confirm validity of the developed algorithms, various experiments for rotor faults are tested and the line current spectrum of each faulty situation using Park transformation and speed estimation method are compared with the results obtained from fast Fourier transforms.

Support Vector Machine Based Bearing Fault Diagnosis for Induction Motors Using Vibration Signals

  • In this paper, we propose a new method for detecting bearing faults using vibration signals. The proposed method is based on support vector machines (SVMs), which treat the harmonics of fault-related frequencies from vibration signals as fault indices. Using SVMs, the cross-validations are used for a training process, and a two-stage classification process is used for detecting bearing faults and their status. The proposed approach is applied to outer-race bearing fault detection in three-phase squirrel-cage induction motors. The experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively identify the bearing faults and their status, hence improving the accuracy of fault diagnosis.

  • In dynamic force microscopy, the cantilever oscillates at a resonant frequency, and the tip deflection is measured at this frequency. The cantilever deflection is, however, highly nonlinear, and the surface properties can be embedded in the deflection at the frequencies other than the original resonant frequency of the cantilever. Multifrequency atomic force microscopy includes the excitation and detection of the deflection in two or more frequencies which are higher harmonics or eigenmodes. This can overcome the limitations of conventional atomic force microscope. We reviewed the multifrequency atomic force microscopy and its applications in many fields.

  • Various deterioration diagnostic techniques and devices are suggested, and most of which measure leakage current components as an indicator of arrester ageing. However, the techniques based on the magnitude of leakage current measure simply RMS or peak value of leakage current components and do not provide detailed information needed in the diagnosis. In this study, we found that the phase vs. wave height of total leakage current is changed or a new wave height is produced with arrester ageing. To complete the new technique, we designed an arrester diagnostic device which is composed of a current detection circuit, an optical transmission circuit, and an analysis program. After measurement of the total leakage current, magnitudes, phase vs. wave height, and harmonics of the leakage current components are analyzed by the microprocessor based device. From the experimental results, we confirmed that the device can measure most parameters needed for the arrester diagnostics and analyze an initial deterioration state.

  • In this paper, a method which cna detect tracking caused by the insulation deterioration of conduct wiring, is proposed. To investigate it, we analyzed the harmonics of each load current waveform and those of tracking current waveform with FFT. The computer which take experiment data is learned by neural network algorithm, which has recently been used for the load recognition. The proposed metod in our study can be applied to the development of several measuring equipments such as hotline insulation tester, cna earch tester for the detection of tracking under hot-line state, Furthermore, it can substitutes molded case circuit breaker, fuse, and so on.

Fuzzy Logic Based Relaying Using Flux-differential Current Derivative Cure for Power Transformer Protection

  • Power transformer protective relay should block the tripping during magnetizing imrush and rapidly operate the tripping during internal faults. But traditional approaches maloperate in the case of magnetizing inrush with low second harmonic component and internal faults with high second harmounic component. To enhance the fault detection sensitivities of conventional technuques, flux-differential current derivative curve by fuzzy theory approaches is used. This paper deals with fuzzy logic based protective relaying for power transformer. The proposed fuzzy based relaying algorithm consisits of flux-differential current derivative curve, harmonics restraint, and precentage differential characteristic curv. The proposed relaying was tested with relaying signals obtained from Salford EMTP simulation package and showed a fast and accurate trip operation.

  • 수중에서 프로펠러에 의해 추진되는 추진체를 식별하기 위해 프로펠러의 추진력에 의하여 수중에 발생되는 cavitation의 비선형 음향학적 현상으로부터 발생되는 프로펠러의 shaft-rates와 blade-rates를 탐지하여 표적을 식별하기 위한 Maximum Likelihood Classifier를 유도하고, 시뮬레이션과 실험을 통한 검증을 수행하였고, 실제 해양에서 수집한 데이터에 대해 적용 가능함을 입증하였다.

Optimal Angle Error Reduction of Magnetic Position Sensor by 3D Finite Element Method

  • This paper deals with an optimal angle error reduction method of magnetic position sensor using hall effect elements. The angle detection simulation for the magnetic position sensor is performed by 3 dimensional finite element method and Taguchi method, one of the design of experiments. The magnetic position sensor is required to generate ideal sine and cosine waveforms from its hall effect elements according to rotation angle for precise angle information. However, the output signals are easy to include harmonics due to uneven magnetic field distribution from permanent magnet in the air-gap in the vicinity of hall effect elements. For the Taguchi method, three design parameters related to position of hall effect elements and shape of back yoke are selected. The characteristics of optimal magnetic position sensor are compared with those of original one in terms of simulation as well as experiment. Finally, the performances of the motor adopting original model and optimal model are represented for the purpose of verification of motor performance due to signals from magnetic position sensor.

  • Recently, Concerns of imbalance for power supply has been raised by the increase of electric power consumption, but the interest of electric safety is still lacking due to the incompleteness of regulations. Particularly, Arcing fault, direct cause of electric fire accidents, is difficult to detect, interrupt due to unformal signal behaviour in previous research and apply to real system. In this paper, Arcing fault simulator device was fabricated to investigate the characteristics of series arcing fault and simulated the faults in various real load. Also, this study are analysed arcing fault signal by using the harmonic analysis of the acquired data from the current of the power supply and proposed the methods to prevent the series arcing fault accidents in advance.
