Locally PDA has been utilized mainly as an alternative way of preforming pile loading tests. More than 30 units of PDA's are believed to be operating in Korea. It is true that PDA can provide useful information regarding bearing capacity, integrity, hammer performance, time effect, etc. However it is also true that inappropriate execution of PDA could result in harmful effects for the safety of the superstructure or causing delay in the construction process. In this paper several cases of inappropriate application of PDA are introduced. Most of the problems seemed to be caused by unqualified personnel who carry out testing and analysis. From the evaluation of the cases a proposal has been made for the proper application of PDA.

In this paper, the content to carry out the modal testing and to analyze the data as the target of the main transformer installed on KTX is mentioned. The main transformer for KTX is a structure which is over 10 Ton. For the possibility to occur a stress concentration phenomenon exists, the dynamic durability of the system is experimentally needed to understand. To do this, we obtained the vibration data using an accelerometer, an impact hammer, a measuring instrument and gained the frequency response function of the main transformer based on the acquisition data. In this content, when the theoretical model for structural analysis should be established, we think it will be used for the property verification of analytical model. Also, we expect that the measured and analysed data will offer basic research material to maintain the system and diagnose the condition by monitoring the natural frequency of the main transformer for KTX periodically.
When a construction company builds a high structure, many piles should be driven into the ground by a hammer whose weight is 7,000 Kg in order to make the ground under the structure safe and strong. So, it is essential to determine whether a pile is penetrated into the ground enough to support the weight of the structure since ground characteristics at different locations are different each other. This paper proposes a visual measurement system for pile rebound and penetration movement including vibration using a high-speed line-scan camera and a specially designed mark to recognize two-dimensional motion parameters of the mark using only a line-scan camera. A mark stacking white and black right-angled triangles is used for the measurement, and movement information for vertical distance, horizontal distance and rotational angle is determined simultaneously

In this study, vibration characteristics of reinforced concrete slab in large span educational facilities were evaluated. A 21.75m X 14.4m full scale reinforced concrete slab specimen was constructed with pre-flex hybrid beams. Vibrations were generated by three different methods such as free falling method of a 6kg sand bag, a 70kg person walking method and impact method by impulse hammer. Vibrations were generated more than 3 times at single location. Vibration characteristic data were collected by SA390 signal analyzer machine at 5 different locations.

Pullout test known as Lok test among the test methods to evaluate concrete strength strength is a test method which is used to decide the form removal time by assessing the early strength of concrete in a new construction, or to control the quality of newly placed concrete. This method has inconvenience to place inserts on the form work in advance, however, the placing work is quite simple and it has advantage that the strength can be measured at field as long as the inserts are placed. In this study, the first step is to investigate the properties of test method itself, by performing the laboratory test which covers deviation of the method and factors affecting the results, etc. The second step is to correlate the result with cylinder strength and other NDT methods such as rebound hammer, ultrasonic method, etc. And that, the results are compared with foreign results to find the differences between the two. In this research, new factors such as moisture content, area of aggregate failure cross section and area of aggregate separation cross section, etc as well as wate-cement ratio and age are investigated.
The purpose of this study is to make clear the present condition and the reason of noise in one-room ape multi-family housing around the campus by residents' subjective responses. The respondents are 104 residents living in one-room ape multi-family housing around the campus. The results are as follows. 1) The residents show relatively non-positive responses at evening and night on the present condition of noise in outdoor and indoor of building or indoor of house unit. 2) The types of outdoor noise of building are checked frequently are 'talking loudness' and 'traffic noise'. 'Walking and talking sounds in stairs and corridors' among the types of indoor noise of building shows highest percentage. They answer 'living equipment noise' and 'water hammer' as major types of indoor noise of house unit.

This study is to investigate the pressure wave characteristics and the maximum pressure rise generated by instantaneous valve closure at the end of the straightening polybutylene piping system. Experiments were conducted under the following conditions: initial pressure $1\~5$ bar, flow velocity $\~0.5-3.0m/s$ and water temperature $25^{\circ}C$. Results indicated that the peak pressure generated by quick valve closure reached Joukowsky's value. We also found that the maximum pressure rise and the pressure history depended on not only initial steady pressure but also flow velocity.

A study on the dynamic mechanical properties of the high strength carbon fiber epoxy composite beam was carried out. The macromechanical model was used for the theoretical analysis of the symmetric laminated composite beam. The anisotropic plate theory and Bernoulli-Euler beam theory were used to predict the effective flexural elastic modulus and the specific damping capacity of laminated composite beam. The free flexural vibration and torsional vibration tests were carried out to determine the specific damping capacities of the unidirectional laminated composite beam. The vibration tests were performed in a vacuum chamber with laser vibrometer system and electromagnetic hammer to obtain accurate experimental data. From the computational and experimental results, it was found that the theoretical values with the macromechanical analysis and the experimental data of symmetric laminated composite beam were in good agreement.
A high-resolution seismic survey was conducted at the northeastern boundary of Pungam basin, one of the Cretaceous sedimentary basins in Korea. A 100 kg weight was used as an energy source and was found to be better than a sledge hammer in mapping deeper geologic structures. Several processing techniques such as f-k filtering, predictive deconvolution, and time-variant filtering are useful to enhance the signal-to-noise ratio by suppressing unwanted seismic energy. Four seismic units are recognized where many vertical faults are developed. The boundary fault between sedimentary rocks and Precambrian gneiss is identified along with a fracture zone of approximately 30 m wide. Bedding planes of the sedimentary rocks dipping westward are interpreted to be limbs of a syncline or volcanic flow. There faults and tilted bedding planes indicate that the basin had undergone significant tectonic deformation.
