  • In this study, a half-duplex mutual communication device via human skin was developed. Frequency-shift keying (FSK) digital modulation and demodulation control were used to transmit and receive data. Data communication through the human body is an effective communication technique and has high-grade security characteristics. In addition, making contact is a natural instinct of humans. Transmitting data through the human body is currently a highly conspicuous technology, because recently a lot of commercial sensors for humans have been developed. A body area network (BAN) can be easily constructed by this communication method on human skin. In this study, a half-duplex FSK mutual communication device was developed using a commercial FSK modulator and demodulator. A special control switching circuit and communication sequence were developed for mutual communication through human skin.

  • In the traditional cellular network communication, the cellular user and the base station exchange information through the uplink channel and downlink channel. Meanwhile, device-to-device (D2D) users access the cellular network by reusing the channel resources of the cellular users. However, when cellular user channel conditions are poor, not only D2D user cannot reuse its channel resources to access the network, but also cellular user's communication needs cannot be met. To solve this problem, we introduced a novelty D2D communication mechanism in the downlink, which D2D transmitter users as half-duplex (HD) relays to assist the downlink transmission of cellular users with reusing corresponding spectrum. The optimization goal of the system is to make the cellular users in the bad channel state meet the minimum transmission rate requirement and at the same time maximize the throughput of the D2D users. In addition, i for the purpose of improving the efficiency of relay transmission, we use two-antenna architecture of D2D relay to enable receive and transmit signals at the same time. Then we optimized power of base station and D2D relay separately with consideration of backhaul interference caused by two-antenna architectures. The simulation results show that the proposed HD relay strategyis superior to existing HD and full-duplex (FD) models in the aspects of system throughput and power efficiency.

  • In this paper, we proposed a transmission scheme for a full-duplex relay system that minimizes outage probability. A relay system with the full-duplex relay can mitigate resource inefficiency of a half-duplex relay system. However, the mobile station suffers from the interference because the base station and the relay station transmits signal simultaneously to the mobile station. First, we suggest a layered broadcasting for full-duplex relaying. Second, we derive an optimal power allocation for the layered broadcasting in terms of the outage probability minimization. The proposed algorithm shows better performance than a half-duplex relaying system with and without the diversity, and a conventional full-duplex relaying system.

  • In this paper, we employ the single channel full duplex radio for wireless local area network (WLAN) systems, and design digital interference cancellers using adaptive signal processing. When the full duplex scheme is used for WLAN systems with multiple transmit and receive antennas, some interference is caused through the feedback of transmit signals from multiple antennas. To remove the feedback interference, we derive the least mean square (LMS), normalized LMS (NLMS), and recursive least squares (RLS) algorithms based on adaptive signal processing techniques. In addition, we analyze the theoretical convergence of the proposed LMS and RLS methods. The channel capacity of full duplex radios increases by two times than that of half duplex radios, when the packet error rate (PER) performances for the two systems are identical. Through numerical simulations in WLAN systems, it is shown that the full duplex method with the proposed interference cancellers has a similar PER performance with the conventional half duplex transmission scheme.

  • Two-way full-duplex relay network provides improved spectral efficiency by using either superposition coding or physical layer network coding at relays compared to conventional two-way half-duplex relay network. In this paper, we investigate the impact of residual loop interference on the performance of the two-way full-duplex relay network. Users and relays in the two-way full-duplex relay network estimate the residual loop interference in order to cancel it. However, it is difficult to perfectly cancel the residual loop interference from the received signal due to the estimation error. Numerical results show the impact of the estimation error on the outage probability of the two-way full-duplex relay network.

  • Recently full-duplex communication in wireless networks is enabled by the advancement of self-interference cancellation technology. Full-duplex radio is a promising technology for next-generation wireless local area networks (WLAN) because it can simultaneously transmit and receive signals within the same frequency band. Since legacy medium access control (MAC) protocols are designed based on half-duplex communication, they are not suitable for full-duplex communication. In this paper, we discuss considerations of full-duplex communication and propose a novel full-duplex MAC protocol. We conducted a simulation to measure the throughput of our MAC protocol. Through the simulation results, we can verify that significant throughput gains of the proposed full-duplex MAC protocol, thus comparing the basic full-duplex MAC protocol.

  • A UHF/VHF full-duplex communication using monopole and dipole antenna has been widely used for cube satellite applications. This kind of communication system requires a dedicated structure panel for antenna integration, which is the one of the disadvantages of the conventional communication system from the accommodation point of view considering the extremely limited volume of the cube satellite. In this study, to maximize the accommodation efficiency of the cube satellite, the commercial UHF half-duplex antenna combined with buck converter for communication modes transition has been considered in the communication system design. Its effectiveness has been verified through link budget analysis based on the antenna specifications and satellite's operation conditions. In addition, the antenna deployment mechanism for the synchronous release of multi-antennas has also been introduced.

  • A terminal response time analysis for a general class of terminals-to-computer subsystem is presented in this paper. On the point of the front view, it should be considered for R.O.K. Military Defense to set up the communication network in order to facilitate for the currency of the information and the data communication system. The model used to study is based on the advanced data communications system in which terminals are connected to Terminal Control Units(TCU) that are in turn connected to local Front-End Processor(FEP). The line control procedures used to interface a TCU and an FEP may be half-duplex Binary Synchronous Communication(BSC), half-duplex Synchronous Data Link Control(SDLC), or full-duplex SLDC. This paper will contribute to facilitate the initial phase of system design and configuration for the Military Defense Communication Network System in future.

  • Currently the functionality of the PRC-999K radio that is widely used in Korean Army is half-duplex and the broadcasting system that all subscribers have to listen when one subscriber speaks in time. Radio data communication system configures peer-to-peer network between command post and network members in military fire control system. And the system applies CSMA/CA(Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Avoidance) technique to avoid data collision. Such a data transmitting/receiving time could be reduced by allocating address in serial order to each network members. By doing that, command post need to broadcast data only one time and assigned members will reply in order without data collision. This paper provides such a protocol and algorithm.

  • Relay has attracted great attention due to its inherent capability to extend the service coverage and combat shadowing in next generation mobile communication systems. So far, most relay technologies have been developed under the half-duplex (HD) constraint that prevents relays from transmitting and receiving at the same time. Although half-duplex relay (HDR) is easy to implement, it requires partitioning of resource for transmission and reception, reducing the whole system capacity. In this paper, we propose a multinser precoding and power control scheme with sum rate matching for a full-duplex (FD) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) relay. Full-duplex relay (FDR) can overcome the drawback of HDR by transmitting and receiving on the same frequency at the same time, while it is crucial to reduce the effect of self-interference that is caused by its own transmitter to its own receiver. The proposed precoding scheme cancels the self-interference of the FDR as well as to support multiuser MIMO. Moreover, we suggest a power allocation scheme for FD MIMO relay with the constraint that the sum rate of the relay's received data streams is equal to that of the relay's transmit data streams.
