  • In the favor of adjusting microwave signal, Hairpin type Filter, which delay microwave signal enough to several nanosecond, is a key component. One of the main advantage in using Hairpin type Filter is a conveniency for equipping with Delay Module, and because of having a wide bandwidth, Hairpin type Filter can be designed to satisfy the most applications. In this work, we attempted to estimate the delay time in a superconductive hairpin type filter A software to synthesize even and odd order equiripple hairpin type filter has been developed. This software arbitrarily locate its transfer zeros making symmetric of asymmetric amplitude response and equalizing group delay. Borland C++ compiler has been used. The program was designed to run under MS-DOS, Window 98, Window 2000. The program optimizes the position of the transfer function zeros in order to fulfill the group delay specification masks. We designed and fabricated a hairpin type HTS 2-pole microstrip bandpass filter to operate at 5.8Ghz. The fabrication method was pulsed laser deposition and YBCO films were deposited on sapphire substrates with a Ce$O_{2}$ thin layer as a buffer layer. We also developed a new style hairpin type filter by using interdigitide inner-pole. Compared to the same size regular hairpin type filters, our filters had a lower center frequency.

  • We have fabricated a modified hairpin-type YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-{\delta}}$ (YBCO) 2-pole microstrip bandpass filter with the center frequency of 5.8 GHz. We designed a hairpin-type filter with interdigital-coupled inner poles to improve the filter performance. Compared to a typical hairpin-type filter of the same size, the center frequency, the bandwidth and the insertion loss appeared smaller by 14.5% ,29.6%, and 0.55 dB, respectively. The dimensions of the filter were 13.7mm ${\times}$3.3 mm. YBCO films deposited on r-cut sapphire buffered with a CeO$_2$thin layer were used fur making the filter.

  • For the performance enhancement of communication system, high quality filters are required. Also a minimization of size of filter is required for the interation of devices in the limited area. Conventional metal filters made of copper can be substituted by high quality high temperature superconducting(HTS) films for better performance. Hairpin type filters have been designed with the center frequency 14 GHz for the size reduction. 3-pole and 4-pole filters centered at 14 GHz with the bandwidth of about 300 MHz were designed and fabricated. With the simulation results, the frequency responses showed low insertion loss and sharp skirts characteristics. The frequency response of HTS 14 GHz fi1ter was measured at 77 K and compared with the simulation results. We have compared YBCO filters and copper filters which were made with the same design rules. Simulated and measured frequency responses reveal that HTS YBCO hairpin type bandpass filters show better performance than copper filters.

  • Several kinds of design method for the hairpin type band-pass filter have been reported. The conventional design methods have some restrictions in characteristic impedance of coupled line section, which provide complexities to designer. In this paper, the novel design formulas for the hairpin type band pass filter have been derived and proposed to resolve the problems of the reported design methods. By employing the equivalent circuit of the coupled line section and band pass filter design theory, the design procedures and formulas are derived. The hairpin type RX/TX band pass filters for the IMT-2000 service have been designed, fabricated with duplexer configuration, and then measured to show the validity of the proposed design method.

  • The filter of hairpin type can be designed small but has a demerit which a design method is complex. This paper suggests the method that a hairpin line filter is designed with applying a transmission line method and J inverter circuit, accurately calculated the J value and the b parameter. It is considered about the line have no the mutual coupling element with next line to each other. is calculated a length of electric coupling line about coupling element in each inverter stage from the J value and the b parameter. In order to show the validity of the proposed design method, band pass filter of small hairpin line is designed at center frequency 2.6 GHz, with Serenade 8.0 software tool and the simulation characteristics are compared with design results.

  • Experimental study on the three-dimensional topology of hairpin packet structures in turbulent boundary layers were carried out. Two different Reynolds number based on momentum thickness, Re$\sub$$\theta$/=514 and 934 were generated in a blowing type wind tunnel under the condition of zero pressure gradient. Simultaneous measurements of velocity fields at a wall-normal plane and wall-parallel plane by a plane PIV and a Stereo-PIV systems. The two Nd:Yag laser systems and three CCD cameras were synchronized to obtain instantaneous velocity fields at the same time. To avoid optical noise at the crossing line by the two laser light sheets, a new optical arrangement using polarization was applied. The obtained velocity fields show the existence of hairpin packet structure vividly and the idealized hairpin vortex signature is confirmed by experiment. Two counter-rotating vortex pair which reflects the cutting plane of hairpin legs are found both side of a strong streaky structure when the wall-normal plane cuts the hairpin head.

  • In this paper, we propose a microstrip bandpass filter using stepped-impedance coupled-line hairpin resonators. The stepped-impedance coupled-line hairpin resonator has extended harmonic suppression in comparison with a conventional hairpin resonator due to transmission zero and the movement of harmonic frequencies resulting from the stepped-impedance characteristic. A high-pass type impedance/admittance inverter is employed in order to improve the lower frequency skirt characteristics of the passband. A 4-pole bandpass filter is designed and fabricated at 1.8 GHz. The measured results show the excellent attenuation performance at the stopband which is greater than 30 dB up to 10 GHz.

  • In this paper, the four-pole elliptic function microstrip filter at 2.4GHz band with fractional bandwidth of 4% is realized using compact miniaturized hairpin resonators. The parallel algorithm FDTD method is used to analyze S-parameter of hairpin resonator filter more accurately, and to calculate the electric coupling and magnetic coupling among the hairpin resonators. Absorbing boundary conditions for mesh termination used Sulivan's simplified PML and the FDTD code was paralleled by MPI for IBM SP2 which had enhanced calculation speed. The experimental measurements are performed by HP8720D vector network analyzer. Measured results on fabricated hairpin type cross coupled bandpass filters show good agreements with theoretic results.

  • For the enhancement of communication system performance, high quality filters are required. Conventional metal filters made of copper can be substituted by high quality high temperature superconductivity(HIS) flms for better performance. In order to reduce the size of the filter for the integration of device in the limited area, we have fabricated hairpin type filters using pulsed laser deposition(PLD) technique. The superconducting YBCO thin films have been grown on MgO substrates by PLD with Nd:YAC laser. The YBCO films were patterned by conventional wet-etching process. We have compared YBCO filters and copper filters which were made with the same spec. Simulated and measured frequency responses reveal that HIS YBCO hairpin type bandpass filters show better performance than copper filters.
