  • The group management system with Wireless Sensor Network and android application is proposed in this paper. The proposed system was composed of personal devices with sensor nodes of WSN, manager device of android platform, and the web server. The sensor node used by each group member send a data packet to the manager device every 2 seconds. The leader device displays and transmits entire information to the web server. The web server represents these information through web page. Therefore, guardians can assure their group member's safety and security on the web page. The RSSI value of each sensor node converted by computed log-normal path loss model into distance value and displays on the manager device and the web page.

  • Chloral hydrate is one of the most widely used sedative agents to control the difficult-to-treat young age group in the dental clinic. The normal onset time of oral Chloral hydrate is 30-45 minute with some variations. We are often frustrated see the patient still awake and cry with agitation even after far more than the normal onset time. In such a case, the patient has to be rescheduled for another sedation visit with different agents and/or routes which greatly disappoints the guardians. This case report presents a sedative regimen that can possibly help the clinician complete scheduled treatment without postponement. We have tried additional administration of Midazolam intranasally to 22 patients of those who failed to respond properly to the initial dose(50-75mg/kg) of oral Chloral hydrate. The average age and weight of the patients was 34.2 months(22-61 mos.) and 15.2 kg(10-17 kg) respectively. Half of the regular dose of Midazolam(0.1mg/kg) was administered intranasally. using needless syringe in 42 cases without notable resistance of the patient. The onset was very rapid in most cases and colud proceed the treatment under the constant monitoring by Pulse oximeter. All the planned procedures could be completed in 93.2 % (69.4% of 'Good' plus 23.8% of 'Fair' rating)with only 6.8 %('Poor' rating) of failure rate. Evidence of adverse effect was not detected or reported during and/or after the procedures.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the causes of burn and emergency cares taken on the spot for the burn patient. Study population included 161 burn patients admitted to 2 university hospitals and 1 general hospital in Taegu from November 1, 1987 to April 30, 1988. Patients or guardians were interviewed with a structured questionnare. Out of 161 burn patients 111(68.9%)were males and 50(31.1%) females. Preschool children of 1-4 years old accounted for 29.8% of the total patients. Burns of children under 15 years of age took place at home in 91.0%, while 48.3% of burns of adult (15 years and over)males occurred at the working place, and 68.0% of adult females occurred at the home. Out of total burns occurred at home 39.8% took place at kitchen/dining room and 24.1% in the room. The most common cause of burns in children was the boiling water or hot food (74.3%). In adults the common causes were electrical burn(22.4%), hot water or food(19.0%) and explosion(12.1%) for males, and hot water or food(32.0%) and explosion (20.0%) for females. Common emergency cares for the burn taken on the spot were undressing(64.6%), pouring Soju(liquor)(13.7%), and pouring cold water(5.0%). There were a few cases who applied ash, soy or salt. To prevent burn, it is recommended to remodel the traditional kitchen and coal-briquet hole, to strengthen the safety control of LP Gas and LN Gas supply, to educate the public for the handling method for such gases, to strengthen the occupational safety control, to improve the safety device for the electric wire and socket, and to limit the temperature of hot water at home and public baths.

  • Environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) is a major public health problem for all ages. Despite the high prevalence of smoking among the Saudi population, there is limited information about levels of urinary cotinine in Saudi children exposed to SHS. The aim of the study was to assess the exposure of schoolchildren to ETS, and measure their urinary cotinine levels. Multistage cluster sampling was carried out, where schoolchildren from 4 schools were randomly chosen from primary schools in Taif city. A questionnaire including questions on SHS exposure and smoking rules in the residence were sent to students parents/guardians. Urine samples were taken and analyzed for total cotinine using chemiluminescent immunoassay. Of the studied children, 38.4% had a smoking father, 61.8%, 41.2% and 49.3% of them were exposed to ETS indoors, outdoors and both indoors and outdoors respectively. The mean urinary cotinine was significantly higher among children exposed to ETS compared to unexposed children. Urinary cotinine levels in children with both indoor and outdoor exposure was significantly higher compared with its level in children with single exposure. A significant positive correlation was found between urinary cotinine concentrations and the number of cigarette packs smoked by parents, and the number of smokers in the residence. The mean urinary cotinine level was significantly higher in children who reported no smoking rules at the residence.. The study revealed a high exposure of Saudi children to ETS. An antismoking media awareness campaign on the harmful effects of ETS should be carried out, in addition to family counseling programs targeted to parents to protect their children from ETS.

  • As the number of elderly people living alone has been increasing in the recent years, systems for their safety have been required, and some related services or pilot systems have been operating. These systems provide the monitoring service for the activities of the elderly people living alone with indoor location tracking technology using the various sensors. However, most systems provide services on expensive infrastructure such as attached tags and mobile devices. In this point, this paper attempts to suggest a system based on low cost sensors to collect event data in home environment. And a main characteristic of the system is that people can monitor the results of provided services through web browser in real time and the system can provide related context information to guardians and health care managers through SMS of mobile phone.

  • There have been various discussions to prevent violence to 119 emergency medical technicians, and the aims of the were as follow ; first, the staff dispatched to the scene should be reinforced so that the patients committing violent acts can be subdued. Secondly, self-defense devices should be provided to 119 emergency medical technicians so that they can use them in a dangerous situation and escape from it. And finally, 119 emergency medical technicians should be allowed to refuse to transport the patients when they or their guardians do violence to them in order to prevent potential violent cases. When countermeasures after violence is committed, it is important to secure evidence and determine strongly to bring charges to the offenders rather than agree to overlook the violence in order to correct them right. It is necessary to introduce a support program to help the victim technicians concentrate on their physical and mental treatment. Violence to 119 EMT should be punished so that the society will think it is natural to punish such offenders. In a safer environment, 119 EMT can perform their duties and it is very important to draw this consensus.

  • This study is to understand the work experiences of nursing students under preceptorship in 3+1 year program, and suggests effective practice to prevent stopping nursing profession. Four focus group interviews were made with 23 nursing students in 3+1 year program. Data were analyzed through the grounded theory of Corbin and Strauss' (2008). Through comparative analysis, central phenomenon of was 'looking for lighthouse'. The causal condition was 'opportunity to learning practice'. Contextual conditions were 'mood of being a true nurse', 'getting vivid information about clinical field', and 'lack of students perception about preceptorship'. Intervention conditions were 'work environment', 'proactive learning' and 'attachment to the hospital'. Action/interaction strategies were 'adjustment to diverse demands of patients and guardians', 'feeling as if it were one's own affair', and 'looking as much as knowing'. Consequence were 'pride' and 'itinerary of learning as a new graduate nurse'. This study is meaningful because it gives useful basis to nursing students in the process of 'looking for lighthouse'.

  • Radioactive medicines are used a lot owing to the increase of a PET-CT examination using glucose metabolism useful for the early diagnosis of diseases. Therefore, the spatial dose that is generated from patients and their surroundings causes the patients' guardians and health professional to be exposed to radiation. However, they get unnecessarily exposed to radiation because medical institutions lack in space for isolation and recognition of the examination. This research intended to examine the spatial dose rates by measuring the dose emitted from the patient for 48 hours to whom F-18 FDG was administered. The spatial dose rates that were measured 100cm away from the patient's body after F-18 FDG was injected were $65.88{\mu}$Sv/hr at 60-minute point, $45.13{\mu}$Sv/hr at 90-minute point, $9.88{\mu}$Sv/hr at 6-hour point, and $1.24{\mu}$Sv/hr at 12-hour point. When the dose that the guardian and health professional got was converted into the annual(240-day working) accumulative dose, it was examined that the guardian received 81.56 mSv/yr and health professional received 49.36mSv/yr. In addition, the result has revealed that the dose that the patient received from one time of PET-CT examination was 3.75mSv/yr, which is 1.5 times more when compared with the annual natural radiation exposure dose.
