Ginseng, Vitamin, and both were given to six-year-old children for three months to know effects of the drugs on the physical growth of the children. 1. Frequency of children's sickness was in order of vitamin plus ginseng, ginseng, vitamin alone and control groups. 2. Height, circumference of chest and weight of children were increased in order of vitamin plus ginseng, ginseng, vitamin, and control groups. 3. Ginseng, as compared with vitamin increased the children's growth, especially their weight and the circumference of chest.
Objectives The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of the herbal medicine in treating digestive system problem on children's growth. Methods We studied 135 children who visited ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ oriental medical hospital to treat digestive system problem from March 2010 to February 2012. We measured their height and body weight on their first time visit and a year later. We compared them using the Growth Statistics Curve made by the Korean Association of Pediatrics, 2007. Results Generally, total children's average height and weight were significantly increased after the herbal medicine. The difference between the height and weight of treated children and the average height and weight was significant. Conclusions Herbal medicine to treat disorder of digestive system helped growth of children.
The relationship of obesity and related behaviors was analyzed among 361 primary school children, 4th and 5th grade, in one of private school in Seoul in July 1994. Compared to 1985 Korean Children's Growth Standard, the surveyed children have shown remarkable growth, which is the secular trend in growth of Korean children accompanied with rapid economic growth. But the relative incremental weight was far larger than that of height and this trend was more evident among children over 50th percentile, which shows a wide prevalence of obesity of the surveyed children. By WLI index, 15% of the children was overweight and 13% was obese. The higher the WLI, the more frequent and stronger stress they had. The nutrition knowledge score of obese children was higher compared to others. They were especially sensitive to their physical fitness but many normal or underweight-children also experienced stress due to their body weight and have tried to lose weight by incorrect methods. On the other hand many obese children thought they were optimal or underweight. These results reasserts the importance of nutrition education focused on children aheading puberty. They need to know the correct degree of obesity and to get appropriate education through teachers, dietitians, parents and doctors. The findings of this study could be applied to a nutrition implementation policy to ensure better physical fitness of children aheading puberty in the future.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to look for physical growth and developmental retardation of the disabled children in registered educational institutions. Method: The participants in this study were 103 children. The data was collected from January to September 2006. Body weight, height and head circumference were measured and the Denver II developmental screening tool was used to measure personal-social development. Results: For 40.8% of the children body weight was less than the average for Korean children of the same age, for 49.5% height was lower than average and for 44.7% head circumference was lower. For 84.5% of the children there was a delay in personal-social development, for 87.4% a delay in fine motor-adaptive development, for 80.6% a delay in speech development and for 81.6% a delay in gross motor development. Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, it is necessary to develop an individual developmental programs for these children based on their growth and development status.
The purposes of this study were to develop self- growth program for children and to testify the effect of the program. For these purposes self- growth program for children was developed and then 83 5th grade children in elementary school were tested with interpersonal strategies scales and school adjustment scales. Out of 83 children, 20 children with lower grades became subjects. They are retested after completing the program. The methods for data analyses included t-test and 2×2 two - way ANOVA The children's interpersonal strategies and school adjustment scores increased after participation in the program. Sex difference didn't manifest.
Objective : As the meaning of collective medical examination, the purpose of this study is to investigate distribution of weak children by measurement according to the five group of weakness (Lung, Heart, Pancreas, Liver, Kidney), and the relationship between the five group of weakness and the Growth failure on primary school children. Methods : This study is composed of 1078 children who attend A primary school in ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ city. They are divided into 6 groups by grade and for the purpose of effective comparison, The five weak symptoms are studied to determine the association with growth stature among children and we standardize the weak children's height into percent according to age. Results: When each weak children controled grade, sex, body-weight, existence or nonexistence of personal history, physical exercise so on, relatively group of weakness for kidney is statistically less then opposite group and the rest of the people statistically have no significant difference. Conclusions: From the above result, it is suggested that the statistical relationship between the weakness for kidney and growth(p<0.001). It looks forward to have contributed to collective medical examination and children's health care by oriental medical treatment.

Food habit forming the basis for a lifetime of food and nutrient intake is established in early childhood and has an effect to the child's growth, sociality, and obesity. A variety of nutrition screening tools exists for assessing the health and nutrition status of children such as the Growth Curve, for determining if growth is appropriate. Body mass index(BMI) as a more reliable index of overweight to prevent childhood obesity, and Nutrition Quotient(NQ) and eating behaviors questionnaire for young children and parents to estimate their nutrient intake adequate or not. Such tools are mainly used by health practitioners, such as doctor and dietitian to provide nutrition intervention services to children at risk, especially and are not easy to use for general parents, who need assessment at any time and at any place. We propose Growth Assistance System for infants and children, which is possible to assess their physical condition, nutritional status, and eating behavior integrated. To be convenient and portable, it is implemented over the smartphone as an application. The system offers the growth charts, the BMI curves, NQ and eating behavior questionnaire to take a monitoring and the functionalities operate well. We hereby expect this system support the normal growth and development of infants and young children. And also support for the health practitioner (dietitians and nutritionists) to take a role in providing nutrition counseling and education to children needing nutrition services.

Objectives: It remains unclear whether methylphenidate (MPH) has yadverse effects on growth in children. This study aimed to investigate the association of MPH with serum biological markers of growth in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Methods: The present study included 103 children with ADHD (64 drug-naive children, 39 MPH-treated children) and 112 control subjects. Children with ADHD were diagnosed on the basis of a semi-structured interview. Levels of biochemical markers of growth, including insulin-like growth factor-I, thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), free T4, calcium, phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase, vitamin D, hemoglobin, total protein, albumin, total cholesterol, and hematocrit were measured in these individuals. Results: Except in case of TSH, no intergroup differences were found in the levels of the growth markers. The levels of TSH were found to be lower in the MPH-treated boys with ADHD than in the drug-naive and control groups (p<0.05), although the levels of TSH in all the groups were within normal limits. Conclusion: In this cross-sectional study, no significant association was found between MPH and growth markers. This calls for the need to carry out prospective longitudinal research studies in the future that investigate the effect of MPH on the growth trajectory in children.
Purpose: In this study the effects of a self-growth program on self-esteem, inferiority and peer-relationships in children using a community child center were examined. Methods: A quasi-experimental design was used. Data were collected from August 26 to October 9, 2008. To test the effects of the self-growth program, the children were divided into two groups, an experimental group (28) and a control group (25). The self-growth program was used with the children in the experimental group. Results: The self-growth program effectively increased the self-esteem scores, and the peer-relationships scores of the children, and decreased the inferiority scores. Conclusion: The results suggest that the self-growth program is a useful nursing intervention for improving self-esteem, decreasing inferiority, and positively affecting peer-relationships in these children.
Objectives Many parents are stressed from their children with anorexia, so this study was planned to investigate the growth state of the children with anorexia and the main concerns of their parents. Methods We searched some medical documents regarding 21 children with anorexia and performed questionnaires on their parents. Results 21 children (male 14, female 7) were studied, the average age of children was $53.62{\pm}20.46$ months, the average height was $102.93{\pm}12.36cm$, the average weight was $16.37{\pm}1.31kg$, the average BMI was $15.26{\pm}1.31$. 16(76.10%) parents have experienced stress regarding their children's slow weight increase. There was no relationship between BMI of the children and the degree of stress of their parents. The parents tend to scold or to give nutrition supplement to their children to solve the anorexia. Many of the parents considered their children has anorexia just by looking at the children's attitude towards to the meals or when children had food whatever it given only. Conclusions The children with anorexia were mostly developed poorly. However, the parents who had children were developing nicely were also stressed because of their children's picky eating behavior and the difficults in coaching their children food.
