Drynariae Rhizoma (DR), an herbal medicine known to clean blood and improve its circulation, frequently appears as the main ingredient in the prescriptions for bone injuries. Currently, it is unclear how contributes pharmacologically to the reformation of bone. Therefore, we have done this study. Systematic administrations of TGFβ1 and water extract of DR diminished the polyarthritis development in rats. TGFβ administration (0.1-2 ㎍/animal) and DR (10-100 ㎍/animal), initiated 1 day before an arthritogenic dose of streptococcal cell wall fragments, virtually eliminated the joint swelling and distortion observed during the acute phase and the chronic phase of the disease. The TGFβ and DR synergistically suppressed the arthritis when the administration was begun after the acute phase of arthritis. Also, the synergistic activity between TGFβ and DR was confirmed in their suppression of arthritis in rats. Consistent with the inhibition of inflammatory cell recruitment into the synovium, TGFβ1 and DR reversed the leukocytosis associated with the chronic phase of the arthritis.

Frictional heating in brakes causes thermoelastic distortion of the contacting bodies and hence affects the contact pressure distribution. The resulting thermo-mechanical coupling can cause thermoelastic instability (TEI) if the sliding speed is sufficiently high, leading to non-uniform heating called hot spots and low frequency vibration known as hot judder. The vibration of brakes to the known phenomenon of frictionally-excited thermoelastic instability is estimated studying the interface temperature and pressure evolution with time. A simple model has been considered where a layer with half-thickness ${\alpha}$ slides with speed V between two half-planes which are rigid and non-conducting. The advantage of this properly simple model permits us to deduce analytically the critical conditions for the onset of instability, which is the relation between the critical speed and the growth rate of the interface temperature and pressure. Symmetrical component of pressure and temperature distribution at the layer interfaces can be more unstable than antisymmetrical component. As the thickness ${\alpha}$ reduces, the system becomes more apt to thermoelastic instability. Moreover, the evolution of the system beyond the critical conditions has shown that even if low frequency perturbations are associated with low critical speed, it might be less critical than high frequency perturbations if the working sliding speed is much larger than the actual critical speed of the system.
The neutral component of the interstellar medium (ISM) is segregated into the cold neutral medium (CNM) and warm neutral medium (WNM) as a result of thermal instability. It was found that the CNM--WNM evaporation interface, across which the CNM undergoes thermal expansion, is linearly unstable to corrugational disturbances, in complete analogy with the Darrieus-Landau instability (DLI) in terrestrial flames. To explore dynamical consequences of the DLI in the ISM, we perform a linear stability analysis of the DLI including the effect of thermal conduction as well as nonlinear hydrodynamic simulations. We find that the DLI is suppressed at short length scales via heat transport. The linear growth time of the fastest growing mode is proportional to the square of the evaporation flow speed of the CNM relative to the interface and is typically >10 Myr. In the nonlinear stage, perturbations grow into cusp-like structure protruding toward the WNM, and soon reach a steady state where the evaporation rate is increased by a factor of 2 compared to the initial state. We demonstrate that the amplitude of the interface distortion and enhancement in evaporation rate are determined primarily by the density ratio between the CNM and WNM. Given quite a long growth time and highly subsonic velocities at saturation, the DLI is unlikely to play an important role in the ISM dynamics.

For perturbations with wave number smaller than the critical$m_{cr}$ the temperature increases with m vice versa for perturbations with wave number larges than $m_{cr}$ , the temperature decreases with m.

GaN epilayers having good adhesion and quality were obtained directly on the sapphire {1120} substrates by the OMVPE method without introducing a buffer layer at the lower temperature. The preferred orientations of epilayers turned out to be <0002> and at least 4 kinds of epilayers were competitively grown. Slight distortions of lattices caused by lattice mismatches between sapphire and GaN were observed at the lattices within 2~3 nm region from the interface. Accordingly, TEM investigation revealed that GaN epilayers could be grown on sapphire {1120} planes without a buffer layer.

Multiferroic thin films with composition $0.9BiFeO_3-0.1Ba(Cu_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$ were epitaxially grown by pulsed laser deposition on $SrRuO_3(001)/SrTiO_3$ (000) substrate $0.9BiFeO_3-0.1Ba(Cu_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$, which is assumed to be morphotropic phase boundary (MPB), that showed superior dielectric, ferroelectric and magnetic properties in our study on polycrystalline films. The structures of epitaxially grown films were characterized by means of XRD. From P-E measurements, samples exhibited typical ferroelectric hysteresis loops and large remnant polarization, whose value is much larger than those of pure BFO film. The enhancement of dielectric, ferroelectric, magnetic properties was attributed to the structural distortion induced by the BCN addition and the high physical stress effect.
Cephalogram is one of the most important tool in researching growth and development of craniofacial area, orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning. But its inherent distortion of actual length and angles during projecting three dimensional object to two dimensional plane might cause errors in quantitative analysis of shape and size. three dimensional high quality images can be obtained using computerized tomogram and have reported in literatures. Considering its expenses and amount of exposure to radiation, limitations still remain to be solved in its application to routine practice. construction of three dimensional image using principle of orientator can be obtained by biplanar stereoradiography. Theoretically two images, lateral and P-A can be used to construct three dimensional image provided that those are taken at same time by two different focal spots. As two images(lateral and P-A) obtained by conventional cephalogram have different head posture, those need compensation to construct three dimensional images. This study introduced principle of computerized head posture compensation and showed that conventional cephalogram could be used to construct three dimensional image and could be applied to routine orthodontic practice.

In this talk I will review recent progress that the SDSS-IV / eBOSS collaboration has made in constraining cosmology from the clustering of galaxies, quasars and the Lyman-alpha forest. The SDSS-IV / eBOSS collaboration has measured the baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) and redshift space distortion (RSD) features in the correlation function in redshift bins from z~0.15 to z~2.33. These features constitute measurements of angular diameter distances, Hubble distances, and growth rate measurements. A number of consistency tests have been performed between the BAO and RSD datasets and additional cosmological datasets such as the Planck cosmic microwave background constraints, the Pantheon Type Ia supernova compilation, and the weak lensing results from the Dark Energy Survey. Taken together, these joint constraints all point to a broad consistency with the standard model of cosmology LCDM + GR, though they remain in tension with local measurements of the Hubble parameter.
This study investigated the use of airborne image data to provide estimates of within -field variability in soil properties and crop growth as an alternative to extensive field data collection. Hyperspectral and multispectral images were acquired in 2000, 2001, and 2002 for central Missouri experimental fields. Data were converted to reflectance using chemically-treated reference tarps with known reflectance levels. Geometric distortion of the hyperspectral pushbroom sensor images was corrected with a rubber sheeting transformation. Statistical analyses were used to relate image data to field-measured soil properties and crop characteristics. Results showed that this approach has potential; however, it is important to address a number of implementation issues to insure quality data and accurate interpretations.
This dissertation presents the results on two-dimensional Redshift space distortion (hereafter RSD) analyses of the large-scale structure of the universe using spectroscopic data and on improvement of modeling of the RSD effect. RSD is an effect caused by galaxies' peculiar velocity on their clustering feature in observation along the line of sight and is thus intimately connected to the growth rate of the structure in the universe, from which we can test the origin of cosmic acceleration and Einstein's theory of gravity at cosmic scales in the end. However, there are several challenges in modeling precise and accurate RSD effect, such as non-linearities and the existence of an exotic component, e.g. massive neutrino. As part of endeavors for modeling more precise and accurate galaxy clustering in redshift space, this dissertation includes a series of works for this issue.
