  • Many kinds of telemetry should be monitored to check the state of spacecraft and it leads the time consumption. However, it is very important to define the status of satellite in short time because the contact number and time of low earth orbit satellite is limited. Also, on-board fault management should be prepared for non-contact operation because of the sever space environment. In this paper, on-board and ground autonomous operation method for the safety enhancement is described. Immediate fault detection and response is possible in ground by explicit anomaly detection through satellite event and error information. Also, satellite operation assistant system is proposed for ground autonomy that collect event sequence in accordance with related telemetry and recommend or execute an appropriate action for abnormal state. Critical parameter monitoring method with checking rate, mode and threshold is developed for on-board autonomous fault management. If the value exceeds the limit, pre-defined command sequence is executed.

  • This is a comparative study on the use pattern and satisfaction of skiers between the suburban skiing ground and the resort one. The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for the planning and the management of skiing ground. The sites of case study are Yong Pyung Ski Resort (Resort type) and Bears Town(Suburban type). Data were collected from questionaire. A total of 420 questionaires were completed. And data were subjected to following analysis: First, the descriptive statistics(mean, chi-square analysis etc.) were used to compare the characteristics of the users and the use pattern of two sites. Second, factor analysis was utilized to reduce 22 satisfaction items into the smaller number of factors. Third, regression analysis was used to find the factors affecting users' overall satisfaction in each skiing ground. The findings of this study are as follows: First, it was proved that the characteristics of users between tow sites were different in terms of age, income, and skill level. Second, it was proved that the use pattern between two sites were different in terms of travel distance from home, traffic mode, length of stay, accommodation type, and the money spent per day. Third, By a principal component factor analysis several factors of satisfaction are found: In physical terms, they are 'slope and life facilities', 'recreation and lodge facilities', 'accessibility', 'crowding', and 'landscape'. In psychological terms, they are 'skiing skills and thrills', and 'relaxation and freedom'. Forth, As the result of the stepwise regression analysis, it was yielded that 'relaxation/and freedom' was most important factor to predict the overall satisfaction in both skiing ground. And it was proved that not only physical factors but also phychological(need gratifying) factors were important sources of the satisfaction.

  • We analyze the radiated emission and mutual coupling problem from a single microstrip transmission line and double signal traces with various ground patterns. In this paper, it is shown that the reduction of the radiated emission from the signal traces can be accomplished by using the novel and compact patterns on the ground planes in a specific frequency band. The accuracy and validation of radiation mechanism from the transmission line on a novel ground plane are evaluated and explained by using a commercially available software and experiment, respectively.

  • In this study, the behavior of unpropped diaphragm walls on decomposed granite soil was investigated through centrifugal and numerical modelling. Centrifuge model tests were performed by changing the interval distance of surcharge. Excavation was simulated during the centrifuge tests by operating a solenoid valve that allowed the zinc chloride solution to drain from the excavation. In these tests, ground deformation, wall displacement and bending moment induced by excavation were measured. FLAC program which can be able to apply far most geotechnical problems was used in the numerical analysis. In numerical simulation, Mohr-Coulomb model fur the ground model, an elastic model for diaphragm wall were used for two dimensional plane strain condition. From the results of model tests, failure surface was straight line type, the ground of retained side inside failure line had downward displacement to the direction of the wall, and finally the failure was made by the rotation of the wall. The angle of failure line was about 67 ∼ 74$^{\circ}$, greater than calculated value. The locations of the maximum ground settlement obtained from model tests and analysis results are in good agreements. The displacement of wall and the change of the embedment depth is likely to have linear relationship.

  • LEO(Low altitude Earth Orbit) Satellite systems have been utilized in the field of earth and scientific observation (cartography mission, ocean color monitoring, bioglogical coeanography, space environments observation by space physics sensor, and meteorological observation, atmospheric observation etc.), and the field of military (military communications and secret information, enemy reconnaissance etc.), and recently been developing in the field of mobile satellite commnication of GMPCS for commercial utilization. In Korea, KOMPSAT I satellite and ground system are been developing and planed to be lunched on October 1999 In this paper, the link budge of the TT&C system for LEO satellite is described and the relations between elevation angle and pass time of LEO satellite are calculated according to satellite moving. And the packet error rates of receiving data are derived three packet error rates(PER) of real-time(RT) mode, playback(PB) mode, and real-time and range tone(RT+RNG) mode are estimated according to pass time of satellite. The results of PER are the best at real-time and the worst at real-time mode and range mode at the all pass time of satellite. The average error free packet(EFP)s of real-time mode, playback mode, and real-time and range tone for the pass time of satellite are obtained as 99.999999%, 99.999912%, 99.995945% respectively. Therefore, transmission sequence of telemetry data are determined such as PER sequence according to pass time, namely, real-time, playback, and real-time and range mode.

  • Aerosol size and number concentration were observed in the atmospheric boundary layer over Beijing (from near the ground to 1,200 m) on March 15 (a clear day) and 16 (a dusty day), 2005. The results were further compared with lidar measurements in order to understand the dependency of extinction on the particle size distribution and their vertical changes. The boundary layer atmosphere was composed of several sub-layers, and a dry air layer appeared between 400 and 1,000 m under the influence of dust event. In this dry air layer, the concentration of the fine-mode particles (diameter smaller than $1.0\;{\mu}m$) was slightly lower than the value on the clear day, while the concentration of coarse-mode particles (diameter larger than $1.0\;{\mu}m$) was remarkably higher than that on the clear day. This situation was attributed to the inflow of an air mass containing large amounts of Asian dust particles and a smaller amount of fine-mode particles. The results strongly suggest that the fine-mode particles affect light extinction even in the dusty atmosphere. However, quantitatively the relation between extinction and particle concentration is not satisfied under the dusty atmospheric conditions since laser beam attenuates in the atmosphere with high concentration of particles. Laser beam attenuation effect becomes larger in the relation between extinction and coarse particle content comparing the relation between extinction and fine particle content. To clarify this problem technically, future in situ measurements such as balloon-borne lidar are suggested. Here extinction was measured at 532 nm wavelength. Measurements of extinction at other wavelengths are desired in the future.

  • A new silicon-based IC interconnect transmission line parameter extraction methodology is presented and experimentally examined. Unlike the PCB or MCM interconnects, a dominant energy propagation mode in the silicon-based IC interconnects is not quasi-TEM but slow wave mode(SWM). The transmission line parameters are extracted taking the silicon substrate effect (i.e., slow wave mode) into account. The capacitances are calculated considering silicon substrate surface as a ground. Whereas the inductances are calculated by using an effective dielectric constant. In order to verify the proposed method, test patterns were designed. Experimental data have agreement within 10%. Further, crosstalk noise simulation shows excellent agreements with the measurements which are performed with high-speed time domain measurement ( i.e., TDR/TDT measurements) for test pattern, while RC model or RLC model without silicon substrate effect show about 20~25% underestimation error.

  • In this study two single-bay, three-storey space frames, one with brick masonry infill in the second and third floors representing a soft-storey frame and the other without infill were designed and their 1:3 scale models were constructed according to non-seismic detailing and the similitude law. The models were excited with an intensity of earthquake motion as specified in the form of response spectrum in Indian seismic code IS 1893-2002 using a shake table. The seismic responses of the soft-storey frame such as fundamental frequency, mode shape, base shear and stiffness were compared with that of the bare frame. It was observed that the presence of open ground floor in the soft-storey infilled frame reduced the natural frequency by 30%. The shear demand in the soft-storey frame was found to be more than two and a half times greater than that in the bare frame. From the mode shape it was found that, the bare frame vibrated in the flexure mode whereas the soft-storey frame vibrated in the shear mode. The frames were tested to failure and the damaged soft-storey frame was retrofitted with concrete jacketing and, subjected to same earthquake motions as the original frames. Pushover analysis was carried out using the software package SAP 2000 to validate the test results. The performance point was obtained for all the frames under study, therefore the frames were found to be adequate for gravity loads and moderate earthquakes. It was concluded that the global nonlinear seismic response of reinforced concrete frames with masonry infill can be adequately simulated using static nonlinear pushover analysis.

  • The next generation LID satellite has 64KB PROM which contains the boot loader and the monitor software, and two 4MB NVMEMs which are used for flight software storage. The boot loader has two operation modes which are the flight software mode and the monitor mode. In the flight software mode, it checks CRC checksum of selected NVMEM and copies flight software image from NVMEM to RAM And then it starts VxWorks RTOS in RAM, creates flight software tasks, and starts execution of flight software. In the monitor mode, it activates monitor software which performs NVMEM reprogramming and board-level testing on the ground. This paper is to present the design of Boot ROM software and verification method using simulator.
