The objective of this research was to select the native shade tolerance plant which grows well from landscape objective of the urban. Seven species native ground cover plants were evaluated on the growth and chloropyll under 0, 40, 60, 90% shading treatments. Hosta longipes was showed the quite good growth from 60% level of natural light. The plant growth of Liriope platyphylla was good within $144.2{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$ intensity which is 90% shade level of natural light. But, Dryiopteris crassirhizoma was judged with shade tolerance plant which grow quite well from shading condition level of 60% degree. Carex siderosticea was showed the highest plant length and plant width in 40% shading of natural light more than at conditon too much shading. Hosta longipes, Liriope platyphylla, Dryiopteris crassirhizoma, and Carex siderosticea were as shade tolerance plant with increases chlorophyll content well to overcome a light restrictive condition and is adapted to seem with the result.

Demand for dwarf mondo grass (DMG; Ophiopogon japonicus 'Nanus') as an ornamental garden plant is expected to grow in the future. The purpose of this study was to investigate the levels of shade tolerance and ground cover by growing DMG under a variety of shade conditions for 18 months (May 2015~October 2016). DMG plants grown in bare ground for 3 years in Jangheung-gun, Jeonnam were used for testing. In an experimental site created in Naju city in Jeonnam, the DMG was planted in planters ($70cm{\times}70cm{\times}24cm$) and covered with a shading curtain to block natural light. Shaded conditions were then arranged under different levels of shade (0%, 55% and 75%). When the plants were grown, growth (leaf size, the number of leaves, fresh weight and dry weight) and ground coverage of DMG were analyzed. According to the results, DMG growth in terms of leaf size and the number of leaves was statistically higher under zero shade (full sunlight), when compared to other shaded conditions. DMG's fresh and dry weights were significantly greater under 0% and 55% shade, compared to those under 75% shade. The degrees of shade tolerance required for normal growth of DMG were found in the range of 0~50%, meaning that more than 50% shade may decrease plant growth. There were no statistical differences in ground coverage rates of DMG under different levels of shade. When 220 tillers were planted per $1m^2$ of plot, up to 80% of the area was covered by DMG after 18 months. Since DMG requires nutrient-rich soil to grow, sufficient nitrogen fertilizers are proposed to accelerate the ground cover of DMG. As DMG remained alive over the winter in the experiments, this study also suggests that DMG can be planted in the southern temperate region.
This experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of different levels of shading (0, 35, 55, 75, 95% to incident sunlight) on the growth of Hedera rhombea Bean and Pachysandra terminalis Sieb. et Zucc. in order to determine optimum light intensity for ground cover plants. H. rhombea showed a upright growth type under 95% shading and P. terminalis was highest under 35% shading. Number of branches was not significantly affected by shading levels. Stem diameter and length were reduced under shading from 35% to 95%. Leaf growth was vigorous under 35% and 55% shade condition. Leaves became longer with decreasing light intensity, but shorter in 95% shading than control. There was a slight trend that total chlorophyll and chlorophyll a, b contents increased with decreasing light intensity, and so did chlorophyll a/b ratio. Fresh and dry weight of both plants were higher under 35, 55, and 75% shading than control and 95% shading. Specific leaf weight tended to decrease with reduction of light intensity. Thus, optimum light intensity for growth of them may be 35 and 55% shading of incident sunlight. In addition, it is possible to grow them under even 75% shading of incident sunlight.

The most of the displayed cut flowers were rose (8 exhibitors, 21.1%), followed by lisianthus, chrysanthemum and dahila. In terms of cultivation techniques, those using moss were displayed by 7 exhibitors (50%) and green-wall techniques were displayed by 6 exhibitors (42.9%). In terms of merchandise, processed products were displayed by 21 exhibitors (41.2%), followed by floral products. Therefore, the IFEX can be used as a place to understand current trends in the floriculture market.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Aruncus dioicus on annual soil erosion reduction effect. Based on the measured soil erosion data, the cover factor of RUSLE was calculated. Comparing calculated the cover factor and Chewings fescue cover factor for soil erosion reduction, It found that cover crop Aruncus dioicus of reducing soil erosion was effective. The amount of soil erosion according to the type of Aruncus dioicus covering was 2.22 Mg/ha, Chewings fescue was 1.85 Mg/ha, 10.60 Mg/ha was produced in the Bare ground. Cover factor of Aruncus dioicus was $0.09{\pm}0.03$ according to the type of covering, Chewings fescue was $0.08{\pm}0.03$, Bare ground was $0.35{\pm}0.10$. Weeds control Bare ground was $0.83{\pm}0.14$. The results of the variance analysis of the cover factor for each covering were different according to the cover type. As a result of the classification of the same group through post - analysis, it was found that the Aruncus dioicus and Chewings fescue were similar to each other. Therefore, the Aruncus dioicus was effective to reduce the soil erosion to the extent that it was comparable to the Chewings fescue.

The halophytes are considered less important in our field, as the land reclamation executed continuously by public or individual. So this research is to use plants more active on the reclaimed land and to verify their utility in the aspect of the landscape planning, design and complementaton. This research is performed at the construction site of Incheon International Airport in Youngjong-do located in West-sea of Korea. Following proposals are the major conclusions drawn from the research:1. The halophytes to be used in the vicinity of the water reservoir in orer to improve the ground for the introduction of new plants and prevent the water contaminatioin. 2. The halophytes to be used as a gound-cover which protects major structures nearby from being damaged by the salt content in the air. 3. Thd halophytes to be used as a unique and panoramic landscape element. They have various colors which change throughout a year. 4. Thd halophytes to be considered as a outdoor recreation resource. The halophytes planted area may be utilized as picnic area, outdoor event plaza, ball game ground, rough in the golf cource and etc. Additional usage of the land include the future rearch site for sea fronted ecological studies and pasture for cows and other livestock.
The aim of this research was carried out that leafty and tonic vegetable using garlic (Allium victorialis L. var. platyphyllum Makino) makes use of landscape ground-cover plant. Following shading level treatments (30%, 50%, 80%), garlic was cultivated to investigate plant growth characteristic and chlorophyll content. Leaf number of all treatments was unaffected, and 80% shading treatment had grown vigorous growth 16.8 cm leaf length and 10.1 cm leaf width compared to 13.4 cm leaf length and 7.3 cm leaf width for the non-shading treatment. Fresh weight of non-shading treatment was better than those of three shading treatments, however, 80% shading treatment had produced 10.4 g fresh weight of stem part compared to 8.5 g for the for the non-shading treatment. The chlorophyll content of the 50 and 80 shading treatments showed 42.8% and 40.5% respectively. These treatments increased 36.7% chlorophyll content compared to non-shading treatments. Following shading level treatments, growth characteristics of garlic in 80 shading level treatment shows outstanding growth and it is worthy of planting as shading ground-cover plants.
Three evergreen ground-cover species were tested and evaluated for cold acclimation with different lights in central Korea to enrich the varieties of ground cover plants for over-wintering. Nandina domestica which recently started to be planted in central Korea had high chlorophyll unit with shade condition in both locations, Banpo and Gwacheon during winter. Light condition had no influence on chlorophyll unit in Banpo after April, meanwhile full sun condition decreased chlorophyll unit significantly in Gwacheon, which is exposed to cold wind from north. Ophiopogon japonicas had more than double chlorophyll unit in shade condition compared to that in full light condition in both investigation areas in February. In addition, higher value of L and b in shade condition had been maintained than in full sun condition throughout investigation period. However, leaves in Gwacheon were de-colorized in full sun condition after over-wintering. Pachysandra terminalis had more higher chlorophyll unit in shade condition compared to in full sun condition in both investigation areas in February. But light conditions had not effect the difference of chlorophyll unit of Gwacheon in April. Therefore, The present results suggest that evergreen ground covers with shade condition would be used as landscape materials in the capital area.

It is true that the industrial development has usually been accompanied with urbanization or centralization of population that has inevitably led to high-rise buildings and densely built-up living area in the cities. While it is badly needed to acquire as much green land within the city limits as possible to compensate for reduced space for recreational purpose in parallel with increasingly urbanized area, the living conditions of plants have become seriously devastated due to shortage of sun light walled-off by high-rise buildings and contaminated environment and air. The shade that is generated by high-rise and compact buildings hinders growth of plants, which makes it urgent to develop native ground cover plant that is strongly viable in the shade. For this purpose, Ligularia stenocephala, best known as greens for Ssam (rice and condiments wrapped in leaves) was cultivated under the 30%, 50%, and 80% shadings and observed to see if there would be any changes in soil conditions, growth of plants and chlorophyll contents depending on the shading rate. The leaf number was 10.8 pieces under the 50% shading and 8.4 under the 30%-shading, 7.7 pieces more than that cultivated under lighting. The leaf width turned out to be excellent from cultivation under the 50%- shading, an evidence indicating its possibility of being cultivated as native ground cover plant in the shade. The live weight of the plants cultivated under the shading increased to 31.63 g, 43.39 g and 19.40 g, respectively, compared to 90.43 g of those in the untreated control plot. The increase in growth of roots was particularly significant with 48.48 g in comparison to 12.33 g under 30% shading cultivation. The chlorophyll synthesis amounted to 46.2 under the 50% shading, showing an increase compared to 41.9 under lighting. The chlorophyll synthesis rather shrank under other shading conditions. The cultivation of Ligularia stenocephala under the 50% shading showed the best condition in growth as native ground cover plant.

This research is to propose a rational criterion of the selection and the management f the roadside trees, and to establish the planting design and system with the objective of improving the roadside environment. All of the roadside trees in each objective courses in Kangnung, and the soil disposition, hardness of the soil in the planting areas have been investigated. Also, we have surveyed the kinds of the trees which kandgnung inhabitants want. The conclusion is as follows Most of roadsides have trees, but they need the introduction of shrubs or ground covering plants according to the locations and the environmental conditions. We have selected nineteen species in regard to the roadside tree criterion and the growing conditions living in Kangnung. It is desirable that we make banding style planting space between each roadside tree to improve the low ratio of green coverage. We have found out that Ligustrum obtusifolium, Buxus micropnylla, Euonymus japonica, Rhododendron schlippenbachii, Phyllostachys nigro and Rosa rugosa, ect. are suitable. In order to soften and weaken the rigidity of the hard substances on a paved roadside, the climbers such as the perennial herbaceous flowering and hedera rhombea should be preferred rather than annual herbaceous flowering because of curtailment of expenditure. To posses a systematical greenery frame in kangnung, we have planned a planting design system that would expand the greenery space every year. Moreover, we have to make a plan to overcome space restrictions. We have established a flexible plan considering the roadside conditions and the improved standard planting methods with an ultimate aim to create a special roadside view.
