A Study on the Surface Grinding using the Machining Center (II) (머시닝센터를 이용한 평면 연삭가공에 관한 연구 (II))

  • Temperature generated in the workpiece during grinding process can cause thermal damages. Therefore it is important to understand surface temperature generated during grinding process. In this paper, a theoretical and experimental investigation were performed for the grinding temperature. Grinding experiments were performed in machining center using vitrified bonded CBN cup-type wheel. The surface temperature was measured using thermocouple and calculated through a model of the partition of energy between wheel and workpiece. The residual stress and hardness of ground surface were measured. The experimental results indicate that the surface temperature was in good agreement with theoretical ones. Residual stress and hardness of ground surface were more affected by the change of table speed than the depth of cut.

  • This paper describes the effects of thermal deformation in electromagnetic chuck on the grinding accuracy. Gringing process is the last machining process and decisive in saving past other machining cost. The thermal deformation of grinding machine is unavoidable and affect seriously ginding accuracy. The thermaldeformation of electromagnetic chuck is one of important thermal problems. Heat generation of magnetic chuck is analyzed and measured. The temperature disturibution in chuck is elliptical form with high temperature in center of chuck. The thermal deformation form of chuck is changed with time to mountain form. The grinding experiment shows that the thermal deformation of magnetic chuck influence strongly machining accuracy as much as the headstock

A Study on the Mirror-like machining of MgO Single Crystal with Optimum In-process Electrolytic Dressing System (최적 전해드레싱을 적용한 단결정 산화마그네슘(MgO)의 경면가공에 관한 연구)

  • MgO single crystal is widely used as a the material of high temperature resistance, but is difficult to grind because of brittleness and crack generation. Therefore, superabrasive diamond wheel is required for mirror like grinding of this material. This study describes a newly proposed optimum in-process electrolytic dressing system for carrying out effective dressing of superbrasive diamond wheel. Using this system the grinding surface of MgO single crystal was improved, the grinding force was very l9ow and crack was removed. In conclusion, this system is good to obtain the efficient grinding and mirror-like grinding without crack of MgO single crystal.

  • In this study, we aims to develop the machining technology for the ultra precision surface and profile accuracy. For this purpose, we construct the electrolytic in process grinding system (ELID grinding) and apply to the cylindrical and internal grinding. Through the various machining experiments such as SCM steel., ceramics, tungsten carbide etc., we have obtained nanometer surface roughness. And we have applied this mirror grinding technique to hydraulic manual valve and mold core of mini disk optical pick-up base. For the development of fine mechanical part machining technology, e have made multi fiber optical connector using fine grinding technology. And constructed micro drilling system with process monitoring system which is possible to drill 50${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ diameter hole.

  • The resin bonded diamond wheel is used to grind the difficult-to-cut materials. Traditionally, the resin bonded diamond wheel is manufactured without any pores due to the characteristics of resin bond. In this study, two porous resin bonded diamond wheel were made and the grinding characteristics were compared with traditional nonporous ones. The experimental results indicate that the porous resin bond diamond wheel require less grinding forces and powers.

  • Today the demand of the optical communication components has been increased. Zirconia Ferrule has become the one of the most important elements because it determines transmission efficiency and quality of information in the optical communication system. Grinding is the major process in the ferrule manufacturing process which require high processing precision. In this reseach, specially designed spindle, chucking system, loading & unloading system and cooling system, as a supporting experimental equipment for development of an Intelligent Coaxial Grinding System (ICGS) for Zirconia Ferrule processing, is developed. We are also analized the adaptability of ICGS in practical use, through the way of evaluation for the performance of the each systems above.

  • This paper proposed the optimal algorithm of grinding system and the method to realize it. The optimal function was proposed in order to design the optimal grinding process. DE(Differential Evolution) algorithm was used to obtain the selective optimal function. The realization of algorithm was implemented by LabView software used widely at industrial field and the proposed algorithm was verified for through computer simulation. The result of the proposed algorithm can be used for the guide line of the grinding process.

  • The grinding process plays a key role which decides the quality of a product finally. But the grinding process is very irregular, so it is very difficult to analyse the process accurately. Therefore it is very important in the aspect of precision and automation to reduce the idle time and to decide the proper dressing time by watching. In this study, we choose the method which can be observed directly by using of computer vision and then apply pattern classification technique to the method of measuring the wheel surface. Pattern classification technique is proper to analyse complicated surface image. We observe the change of the wheel surface by using of the gray level run lengths which are representative in this technique.

  • ELID(Electrolytic In-process Dressing) grinding is an excellent technique for mirror grinding of various advanced metallic or nonmetallic materials. A polishing process is also required for elimination of scratches present on ELID grinded surfaces. MAP(Magnetic Assisted Polishing) has been used as polishing method due to its high polishing efficiency and to its resulting in a superior surface quality. This study is describing an effective fabrication method combining ELID and MAP of nano-precision mirror grinding for glass-lens molding mould. It also presents some techniques for achieving the nanometer roughness of the hard metals, such as WC-Co, which are extensively used in precision tooling material.

  • Recently, developments in the frontier industry have brought a rapid increase in the use of brittle materials such as silicon wafer, ferrite, sintered carbide, MgO single crystal and die steel. Because of high hardness and brittleness the cracking and chipping are apt to generate in the grinding of brittle materials, but have replaced gradually the high precision grinding. In this study, the optimum system of in-process electrolytic dressing controlled by computer was developed for improving the defects, and could maintain the optimum dressing condition at all times. The control of in-process dressing was simplified using this system, was able to maintain a stable dressing current and was unrelated to the change of dressing condition according to the variation of gap and oxide layer. Therefore, the optimum in-process electrolytic dressing system was constructed and the analysis of grinding mechanism with this system was studied.
