  • Recently, transaction data is accumulated everywhere very rapidly. Association analysis methods are usually applied to analyze transaction data, but the methods have several problems. For example, these methods can only consider one-way relations among items and cannot reflect domain knowledge into analysis process. In order to overcome defect of association analysis methods, we suggest a transaction data analysis method based on probabilistic graphical model (PGM) in this study. The method we suggest has several advantages as compared with association analysis methods. For example, this method has a high flexibility, and can give a solution to various probability problems regarding the transaction data with relationships among items.

  • This paper proposes a graphical user interface for industrial robot systems. Previous user interfaces for industrial robot systems were based on the text. In order to enable operators to handle robots more efficiently, a set of graphical tools is provided. The graphical tools contain a control panel for operating robots and compiling robot programs, a graphical teaching panel for handling virtual robots and a graphical monitoring panel for checking robot status. Furthermore, the proposed GUI can be used to operate remote robots because it has network utilities. This system consists of the virtual mode and the real mode. The user can handle a 3D virtual solid model of the robot in the virtual mode and an actual robot in the real mode.

  • We propose an improved version of Kim (2000) to the effect that in principle we may deal with a graphical model of any size. Kim (2000) proposed a method of estimating parameters for a model of categorical variables which is too large to handle as a single model. We applied the proposed method to a simulated data of 158 binary variables.

  • A dynamic graphical procedure is suggested to estimate optimal response transformation parameter and a curvature function of covariates in the regression model. Augmented partial residual plot is chosen for specifying a curvature. The proposed method is compared with a different approach (Soo, 2007) and is investigated efficiency by applying it to the real and the artificial data. The method is also extended to the 3D graphical situations.

  • We represent graphically the relationship of hierachical log linear models by regarding the values of the likelihood ratio statistics as the squared norm of the corresponding vectors. Right angled triangles, tetrahedrons, and modified polyhedrons are used for graphical description. We find that the angle between the two vectors depends on the coefficient of determination and the partial coefficent of determination. Thess graphical descriptions could be applied to the model selection method.

  • In this study, university students were provided with repeated opportunities to represent their ideas graphically, and to examined via their drawings the extent to which they could visualize macroscopic phenomena microscopically. These drawings provided insight into the students' basic understanding of solution chemistry, revealing three conceptual models: the Undifferentiated Symbolic Model, the Particulate Model, and the Symbolic Ionic Model. Generally speaking, students who had poor conceptual understanding tended to exhibit the Undifferentiated Symbolic Model, whereas students with deeper understanding tended to employ the Symbolic Ionic Model. Students' conceptual comprehension was predictable from their graphical representations, which better elucidated what they actually comprehended about the phenomena, as opposed to their ambiguous verbal descriptions alone. The results of this study demonstrated a lack of development in university students' conceptions of solutions. Their weakness in understanding at the molecular-level became more obvious when they were asked to represent their ideas in drawings. Few students exhibited expert knowledge, and several common misconceptions were found, which indicated typical difficulties students have perceiving common phenomena at the molecular level. The findings of this study illustrate how eliciting graphical representations can be used to assess students' conceptual understandings.

  • When the component proportions in mixture experiments are restricted by lower and upper bounds multicollinearity appears all too frequently. The ridge regression can be used to stabilize the coefficient estimates in the fitted model. I propose a graphical method for evaluating the mixture component effects of ridge regression estimator with respect to the prediction variance and the prediction bias.

  • In the analysis of repeated measurements, multivariate regression models that account for the correlations among the observations from the same subject are widely used. Like the usual univariate regression models, these multivariate regression models also need some model diagnostic procedures. In this paper, we propose a simple graphical method to detect outliers and to investigate the goodness of model fit in repeated measures data. The graphical method is based on the quantile-quantile(Q-Q) plots of the $X^2$ distribution and the standard normal distribution. We also propose diagnostic measures to detect influential observations. The proposed method is illustrated using two examples.
