한국 하천의 구간 별 특성과 생태적 복원을 실현하기 위한 대조식생 정보 (Characteristics and Reference Information of Riparian Vegetation for Realizing Ecological Restoration Classified by Reach of the River in Korea)

  • To realize river restoration that ecological characteristics of the river are reflected, we classified the river into four reaches of valley stream, upstream, midstream, and downstream based on substrate as well as riverbed gradient obtained from the relationship between distance from the river mouth, and above sea level. Considering that the rivers of Korea have been dominated by various and intense artificial interferences over a lengthy period, we determined cross sectional range of the river based on the geological map and clarified transformation degree by reach. Vegetation profile diagram was prepared by depicting horizontal range and vertical stratification of major vegetation appearing in a belt transect of 10 m breadth installed between weirs constructed in both sides of the river. Restoration models by river reach were prepared based on breadth of waterway, bare ground, herb, shrub, and tree dominated vegetation zones on vegetation profiles wherein a flooding regime was reflected. Species composition information collected from vegetation established in each zone was systematized to use for restoring each reach ecologically. Further, background that longitudinal reaches and horizontal zones were divided, was discussed by comparing with case studies in foreign countries. In addition, necessity of ecological restoration of the river was discussed based on degree of integrity of Korean rivers, ecological significance of riparian vegetation, and importance of reference information for ecological restoration of the river.

남해특별관리해역인 마산만에서 동계 및 하계에 출현하는 대형저서동물군집의 공간분포 양상 (Spatial Distribution Patterns of Macrobenthic Communities during Winter and Summer in the Masan Bay Special Management Area, Southern Coast of Korea)

  • The spatial distributions of macrobenthic communities in Masan Bay were investigated during summer and winter, 2004. A total of 104 species were sampled with mean density of $448ind./m^2$ and biomass of $77.1g/m^2$ in winter. In summer, a total of 107 species occurred with $485ind./m^2$ and a biomass of $94.5g/m^2$. The most dominant species in winter were Paraprionospio pinnata (24.2%) among polychaetous worms and Theora fragilis (14.1%) among molluscs, but they were replaced in summer by Prionospio chirrifera (20.4%) and Lumbrineris longifolia (14.5%). The difference in species composition and abundance of benthic communities between the two seasons was due to the hypoxia in the bottom layer of the inner bay during summer, which defaunated the macrofauna of the sediments. In the winter when DO concentration increased to normoxia, the pelagic larvae of benthic fauna settled in the soft sediments, but there was a spatial gradient in values of total biomass, density, and H' and benthic pollution index (BPI): higher values were found toward the mouth of the bay. The multivariate analyses like the cluster analysis and MDS ordination showed that Masan Bay could be divided into two or four stational groups in winter and summer whether the hypoxia occurred or not. Group I consisted of sites at the inner bay and central area and Group II, sites at the bay mouth. In summer the inner bay area could be further divided into the shallow impoverished area and the deeper abiotic one.

충북지역 산지대 하부의 참나무림에 대한 식물사회학적 연구 (A Phytosociological Study of the Quercus Forests in the Lower Montane Zone, Chungbuk Province, Korea)

  • 본 연구는 Z. -M. 학파의 식물사회학적 연구방법에 의해 충북지역의 박달산, 계명산, 보련산, 월악산, 천등산, 조령산, 국망산, 부용산, 두타산, 만뢰산, 미동산, 감악산, 시루봉, 십자봉, 용산봉 일대의 산지대 하부의 참나무림을 분류하고 그 환경조건을 해석할 목적으로 실시하였다. 이 일대의 참나무림 식생은 A. 굴참나무군락(Quercus variabilis community), A-1. 상수리나무하위군락(Quercus acutissima subcommunity), A-2. 전형하위군락(Typical subcommunity), B. 신갈나무군락(Quercus mongolica community), C. 떡갈나무군락(Quercus dentata community)으로 구분되었다. 이들 식생단위는 인위 및 해발과 같은 환경복합의 경도에 의해 배비되었으며, 종의 우점도에 근거한 집괴분석(군평균법)의 결과와도 비교적 잘 일치하였다.

배지 조성이 번데기 동충하초의 영양성분 및 Cordycepin 함량에 미치는 영향 (Effect of medis composition on the Cordycepin and content Nutritional Components of Cordyceps militaris)

  • The purpose of the present study is to develop a simple, fast and sensitive LC/MS method for simultaneous separation and the determination of an active component in the oriental medicinal mushroom Cordyceps militaris. Based on this work, the contents of cordycepin in Cordyceps militaris fruiting cultivated on various media were determined and compared. And also, the nutritional components such as minerals and vitamins were determined in order to provide useful information to consumer as a food material. The analysis methods of nutritional components were chosen on the basis of AOAC. The optimum separation for cordycepin was achieved using a solvent gradient consisting of the mixture of 0.1% formic acid in methanol (solvent B) in a background of 0.1% formic acid in water (solvent A) as a mobile phase and a 3.0${\times}$150 Waters XTera column. Selective ion monitoring (SIR) mode ([M+H]+ at m/z 252) was used for quantitative analysis of cordycepin. The cultivated Cordyceps militaris on various media contained 1~14 /g of cordycepin, 0.65~1.08% of thiamine, 0.86~7.17% of riboflavin, and 3.01~5.26% of niacin. The content of mineral components varied on categories, especially contained 500~3500% of potassium as a major mineral. Cordycepin, niacin and potassium were found much higher in the fruiting cultivated with soy power media (gold 10) than other media.

Microbial composition and diversity of the long term application of organic material in upland soil

  • Organic and chemical fertilizer amendments are an important agricultural practice for increasing crop yields. In order to maintain the soil sustainability, it is important to monitor the effects of fertilizer applications on the shift of soil microorganism, which control the cycling of many nutrients in the soils. Here, culture-dependent and culture-independent approaches were used to analyze the soil microorganism and community structure under six fertilization treatments, including green manure, rice straw compost, rapeseed cake, pig mature compost, NPK +pig mature compost, NPK and control. Both organic and chemical fertilizers caused a shift of the cultural microorganism CFUs after treatments. Bacterial CFUs of the organic fertilization treatments were significantly higher than that of chemical fertilization treatments. The DGGE profiles of the bacterial communities of the samples showed that the green manure treatment was a distinct difference in bacterial community, with a greater complexity of the band pattern than other treatments. Cluster analyses based on the DGGE profile showed that rice straw compost and pig mature compost had a similar banding pattern and clustered together firstly. Rapeseed cake, NPK, NPK +pig manure compost and control clustered together in other sub-cluster and clearly distinguished from green manure.

탐진강 열린하구에서 탄소물질의 성상별 이동 특성 연구 (A Study on Transport Characteristics of Organic and Inorganic Carbons in the Open Estuary of the Tamjin River, Korea)

  • 본 연구는 탐진강 유역의 열린하구 강진만에서 하천과 해양 간의 성상별 탄소물질의 이동 특성을 파악하였다. 탐진강에서는 대부분의 탄소물질이 DOC 형태로 강하구로 유출되며, 하구로 오면서 조간대에 펼쳐진 갈대군락지에서 POC가 국지적으로 공급되고 있었다. 이에 반해 강진만에서는 DIC의 조성비가 탐진강에 비해 높게 나타났으며, 이러한 무기탄소는 주로 해양에서 공급되고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 종합해보면, 탐진강 열린하구는 하천과 바다의 영향이 상호 교차하는 지역으로 강에서는 유기탄소의 공급이 바다에서는 무기탄소의 공급이 주로 이루어져서, 탄소물질의 하구순환이 이루어지고 있음을 파악하였다. 이상과 같이 열린하구에서의 탄소조성 변화를 파악함으로써 하천과 하구, 해양 생태계 간의 환경특성에 따른 탄소공급원을 이해할 수 있었으며, 향후 보다 종합적인 연구를 위해 국내의 닫힌 하구와의 비교 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

Experimental Applications of in situ Liver Perfusion Machinery for the Study of Liver Disease

  • The liver is involved in a wide range of activities in vertebrates and some other animals, including metabolism, protein synthesis, detoxification, and the immune system. Until now, various methods have been devised to study liver diseases; however, each method has its own limitations. In situ liver perfusion machinery, originally developed in rats, has been successfully adapted to mice, enabling the study of liver diseases. Here we describe the protocol, which is a simple but widely applicable method for investigating the liver diseases. The liver is perfused in situ by cannulation of the portal vein and suprahepatic inferior vena cava (IVC), with antegrade closed circuit circulation completed by clamping the infrahepatic IVC. In situ liver perfusion can be utilized to evaluate immune cell migration and function, hemodynamics and related cellular reactions in each type of hepatic cells, and the metabolism of toxic or other compounds by changing the composition of the circulating media. In situ liver perfusion method maintains liver function and cell viability for up to 2 h. This study also describes an optional protocol using density-gradient centrifugation for the separation of different types of hepatic cells, allowing the determination of changes in each cell type. In summary, this method of in situ liver perfusion will be useful for studying liver diseases as a complement to other established methods.

Elevational distribution ranges of vascular plant species in the Baekdudaegan mountain range, South Korea

  • The climate is changing rapidly, and this may pose a major threat to global biodiversity. One of the most distinctive consequences of climate change is the poleward and/or upward shift of species distribution ranges associated with increasing temperatures, resulting in a change of species composition and community structure in the forest ecosystems. The Baekdudaegan mountain range connects most forests from the lowland to the subalpine zone in South Korea and is therefore recognized as one of the most important biodiversity hotspots. This study was conducted to understand the distribution range of vascular plants along elevational gradients through field surveys in the six national parks of the Baekdudaegan mountain range. We identified the upper and lower distribution limits of a total of 873 taxa of vascular plants with 117 families, 418 genera, 793 species, 14 subspecies, 62 varieties, two forms, and two hybrids. A total of 12 conifers were recorded along the elevational gradient. The distribution ranges of Abies koreana, Picea jezoensis, Pinus pumila, and Thuja koraiensis were limited to over 1000 m above sea level. We also identified 21 broad-leaved trees in the subalpine zone. A total of 45 Korean endemic plant species were observed, and of these, 15 taxa (including Aconitum chiisanense and Hanabusaya asiatica) showed a narrow distribution range in the subalpine zone. Our study provides valuable information on the current elevational distribution ranges of vascular plants in the six national parks of South Korea, which could serve as a baseline for vertical shifts under future climate change.

공침법을 통하여 합성된 코어-쉘 구조를 가지는 하이 니켈 양극 소재 안정화 (Stabilization of High Nickel Cathode Materials with Core-Shell Structure via Co-precipitation Method)

  • The capacity of high nickel Li(NixCoyMn1-x-y)O2 (NCM, x ≥ 0.8) cathodes is known to rapidly decline, a serious problem that needs to be solved in a timely manner. It was reported that cathode materials with the {010} plane exposed toward the outside, i.e., a radial structure, can provide facile Li+ diffusion paths and stress buffer during repeated cycles. In addition, cathodes with a core-shell composition gradient are of great interest. For example, a stable surface structure can be achieved using relatively low nickel content on the surface. In this study, precursors of the high-nickel NCM were synthesized by coprecipitation in ambient atmosphere. Then, a transition metal solution for coprecipitation was replaced with a low nickel content and the coprecipitation reaction proceeded for the desired time. The electrochemical analysis of the core-shell cathode showed a capacity retention of 94 % after 100 cycles, compared to the initial discharge capacity of 184.74 mA h/g. The rate capability test also confirmed that the core-shell cathode had enhanced kinetics during charging and discharging at 1 A/g.

몽골 훕스굴 호수 수층에서 유기물질 분해세균의 분포 (Distribution of Bacterial Decomposers in Lake Khuvsgul, Mongolia)

  • 동토지대 거대 담수호에 서식하는 종속영양세균 군집의 생태학적 기능을 파악하기 위하여, 몽골 북부의 동토지대 경계에 위치한 스굴 호수에서, 전체 세균군집의 구조와 유기물질을 분해할 수 있는 미생물 군집의 구조를 수심별로 비교 분석하였다. 환경인자 분석결과, 수심 5~10 m 사이에서 thermocline과 chemocline이 관찰되었다. Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE)로 전체 세균군집의 구조를 수심별로 비교한 결과 0~5 m 사이에서 군집구조의 변화가 컸고, 10 m 이상에서는 Acidovorax facilis를 위주로 비교적 안정된 군집을 형성하였다. $10^{\circ}C$에서 고분자 유기물 분해 활성도(protease, cellulase, amylase, lipase)가 높은 균주들을 탐색하여 23개 균주를 선별하였다. 표층수로부터 Acidovorax defluvii와 Sphingobacterium faecium이 분리되었는데 cellulase 활성이 높았다. 수심2 m, 5 m 및 10 m 이상의 시료에서 분리된 세균군집은 각각, Flavobacterium succinicans, Mycoplana bullata, A. facilis가 우점하였다. F. succinicans는 높은 protease 활성을 보였고, 수심 5 m의 M. bullata는 protease와 cellulase 활성이 있었지만, 상대적으로 약한 활성을 보였다. 수심10 m의 A. facilis 균주들은 cellulase 또는 lipase를 서로 배타적으로 발현하였다. 온도별 성장속도를 분석한 결과 표층(0~5m) 세균들은 기회성 호냉성 세균이었고, 심층($\geq$10m)에서 분리된 균주들은 $10^{\circ}C$ 이하에서 성장률이 낮았다. 심층의 저온 빈영양 상태 때문에 심층 세균들간의 경쟁에서 빠른 저온 성장이 요구되지 않고, 상층의 경우 육상 또는 식물 플랑크톤으로부터 영양물질이 공급되므로 저온에서 빠른 성장 속도를 보이는 세균들이 상층에 주로 분포하는 것으로 해석되었다. 따라서 스굴 호수수층에서 관찰된 세균군집의 종 분포와 물질분해 작용의 성층화는, 한냉대 빈영양 담수 호수에서 분해자 군집들의 생태학적 기능이 0~10 m 수심의 표층에 집중됨을 시사하였다.
