The Correlation of the Berg Balance Scale, Timed Up & Go Test, and Functional Independent Measure in the Elderly People (노인에게 있어서 Berg 균형척도, Timed Up & Go 검사, 기능적 독립평가(FIM)의 상관관계)

  • This study aims to compare the relationship between the Berg Balance Scale (BBS) scores, Timed Up & Go (TUG), Functional Independent Measure (FIM), and subject characteristics. All of the 18 subjects were women between the ages of 68 and 91 (mean=80.2, SD=5.43), and they all lived at the nursing home in Wonju. Balance was measured using BBS, and functional mobility was measured using TUG. FIM was used to evaluate functional independence. Data were analyzed using Spearman correlation. Statistically significant differences were noted between BBS and TUG (r=-.486, p<.05). There were no significant statistical differences between total FIM and BBS, TUG. The FIM items "locomotion" and "communication" showed significant statistical differences between BBS and TUG. The results suggest that FIM may be able to predict dangerous falls in elderly people.

Performance Analysis of a Flat-Earth Explicit Guidance Algorithm Applicable for Upper Stages of Space Launch Vehicles (발사체 상단 유도를 위한 단순화된 직접식 유도 방식 성능 분석)

  • This paper considers the explicit guidance algorithm to determine the closed-loop guidance law applicable to upper stages of a given space launch vehicle. It has the advantage of very simple forms derived from the flat earth assumption, which is appropriate for its on-board application. However the simple time-to-go prediction equation produces the degraded guidance performance of the launcher because of its inaccuracy. To overcome the problem, the elaborate prediction equations, which have been employed in Saturn and H-II, are attempted here. Finally, the simulation results show that the simple guidance approach requires the more accurate time-to-go prediction and gravity integrals for its broad application.

  • Purpose: Globally, falls are a major public health problem. The study aimed to evaluate the predictive validity of the Timed Up and Go test (TUGT) as a screening tool for fall risk. Methods: An electronic search was performed Medline, EMBASE, CINAHL, Cochran Library, KoreaMed and the National Digital Science Library and other databases, using the following keywords: 'fall', 'fall risk assessment', 'fall screening', 'mobility scale', and 'risk assessment tool'. The QUADAS-II was applied to assess the internal validity of the diagnostic studies. Thirteen studies were analyzed using meta-analysis with MetaDisc 1.4. Results: The selected 13 studies reporting predictive validity of TUGT of fall risks were meta-analyzed with a sample size of 1004 with high methodological quality. Overall predictive validity of TGUT was as follows. The pooled sensitivity 0.72 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.67-0.77), pooled specificity 0.58 (95% CI: 0.54-0.63) and sROC AUC was 0.75 respectively. Heterogeneity among studies was a moderate level in sensitivity. Conclusion: The TGUT's predictive validity for fall risk is at a moderate level. Although there is a limit to interpret the results for heterogeneity between the literature, TGUT is an appropriate tool to apply to all patients at a potential risk of accidental fall in a hospital or long-term care facility.

Designing Performance Costumes of Daily Dance Ganggangsullae for Elementary Students (초등학생을 위한 강강술래 국민생활댄스 공연복식 제안)

  • Daily dance Ganggangsullae is recommended for youth to help their diet, improve their team life and know Korean culture. Its performance costumes were fusion hanbok and casual wear shown at the Second Daily Dance Ganggangsullae Contest Conference of Myeongryang Battle Festival in 2013. A fusion hanbok shows the Korean traditional spirit, but it is not practical. Casual wear is practical, but it does not show any Korean identity. Therefore, their combination is needed to reflect the Korean identity and practicality. For this, a literature review and an online search were conducted for the history, purpose and dance motion of daily dance Ganggangsullae. And photographs of participating teams were gathered from Jeonnam Information & Culture Industry Promotion Agency. Goguryeo costumes were used for design motifs. Four designs were sets of T-shirts and pants for the summer. Style 1 is designed using sam, jikryeong, go, round and triangle pattern with rippled cotton. Colors were from Wang Huiji's mural painting. Style 2 is designed using dansuui, beonryeong, go, round and quadrangle patterns with rippled cotton. Colors were from a Deokheungri mural painting. Style 3 is designed using sam, round ryeong, go, quadrangle patterns, prints with cotton jersey and denim. Colors were from a Gamsinchong mural painting. Style 4 is designed using dansuui, jikryeong, go, a flame pattern, a bow and arrow shape with cotton, knit and jersey. Colors were from a Muyongchong mural painting. This study is helpful to anyone who wants to develop Korean-style performance costumes.

  • An automated system using a embedded board is required to generate the notation input of the offline Go game. This paper integrates shape and color information of the objects on the Go game board for light-insensitive processing and reduces the computation step. This paper combined the detection of obstacles using connected components with the computation of canny edge detection and HSV-based detection. As a result, the processing time is reduced in the embedded environment so that reliable notation can be automatically stored even in real-time play environment.

  • Google App Engine(GAE)은 플랫폼 서비스 형태(Platform as a Service, PaaS)의 클라우드 인프라이며 GAE를 기반으로 웹어플리케이션을 제작할 수 있도록 다양한 개발 도구를 제공해 준다. 본 논문에서는 Python 및 Go를 이용하여 GAE 상에서 구현한 클라우드 기반의 web application들의 성능을 비교하고자 한다. 각 web application의 주요 기능은 회원가입, 로그인, 채팅 등으로 구성되어 있고 특히, 회원목록이나 채팅 데이터를 처리하기 위하여 GAE에서 제공하는 Google Datastore를 사용하였다. 성능비교를 위하여 Python2.5, Python 2.7 및 Go를 사용하여 통일한 기능의 web application을 구현하였으며 각각의 메뉴에 대하여 서버 로직의 실행과 장고 (Django) 스타일의 HTML 템플릿을 렌더링하는데 걸리는 시간을 구하고 이를 비교 분석하였다.

  • In Faulkner's many works, most Mulattoes are represented as tragic characters who feel confused with their racial identity and are sacrificed by the Southern racism in the end. However, in Go Down, Moses Lucas Beauchamp is an exceptional mulatto in that he survives the Southern racism and achieves some dignity as a human. It is because he maintains the relationship with his family and environment as a skilled farmer. Although Southerners idealized their lives in plantations as nature-friendly and ecological way of life, plantation owners had little direct relationship with land as plantations were cultivated by black slaves' labor. Therefore, white landowners had little knowledge about cultivation and ecological awareness. Although Lucas Beauchamp is criticized as he has the strong will to power and patriarchal attitude, it is partly caused from endeavor to overcome the suppression as a black male whose masculinity is denied in the Southern society. In spite of his limitation, he shows the possibility to escape from the curse prevailing in the South, which abuses land and other races through the relationship with others and land. He has positive aspects in that he has genuine relationship with land and others and takes his responsibility for others, searching the most suitable way to survive as a black.

A Study on the Characteristics of Low-Level Wind Shear at Jeju International Airport from Go-Around Flight Perspective (항공기 복행사례를 통한 제주국제공항 저층 윈드시어의 특징 연구)

  • Low level wind shear, which often occurs at Jeju International Airport, is a phenomenon that occurs when the topological location and topographical characteristics of Jeju Island are combined with weather characteristics. Low level wind shears, which are caused by rapid changes in wind direction and wind speed, pose a threat to aircraft safety and also cause abnormal situations, such as aircraft go-around, diversion, and cancellation. Many meteorological studies have been conducted on weather patterns, occurrence periods and frequency of low level wind shears. However, researches related to aircraft operations are limited where here we study the similarities and differences between strong southwest winds and bidirectional tailwind type low level wind shears based on aircraft go-around cases at Jeju International Airport. The results are expected to be used to enhance safety when operating to Jeju International Airport, which includes pilot training that reflects the characteristics generated by wind changes, pilot prior notification, providing pilots with latest trends, and increasing extra fuel.

Effect of graphene oxide on polyvinyl alcohol membrane for textile wastewater treatment

  • A tremendous amount of energy resources is being wasted in cleaning wastewater to save the environment across the globe. Several different procedures are commercially available to process wastewater. In this work, membrane filtration technique is used to treat the textile wastewater because of its cost effectiveness and low environmental impacts. Mixed Matrix Membrane (MMM) consist of Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) in which Graphene Oxide (GO) was added as a filler material. Five different membranes by varying the quantity of GO were prepared. The prepared membrane has been characterized by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-Ray Diffractometry (XRD), Fourier Transformed Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Water Contact Angle (WCA). The prepared membranes have been utilized to treat textile wastewater. The synthesized membranes are used for the elimination of total dissolve solids (TDS), total suspended solids (TSS), Methylene blue (MB) dye and copper metallic ions from textile wastewater. It is concluded that amount of GO has direct correlation with the quality of wastewater treatment. The maximum removal of TDS, TSS, MB and copper ions are found to be 7.42, 23.73, 50.53 and 64.5% respectively and are achieved by 0.02 wt% PVA-GO membrane.

Intrinsic Permeation Properties of Graphene Oxide Membranes for Gas and Ion Separations (그래핀옥사이드 멤브레인의 기체 및 이온 투과 특성)

  • Graphene oxide (GO) has been considered as a promising membrane material, because of its easy processability and distinct properties, including controllable pore size distribution and diffusion channels. Particularly, the feasibility has been proposed a number of simulation results and proof-of-concept experimental approaches towards GO membranes. That is, GO already shows many outstanding intrinsic properties suitable for promising membrane platforms, such as the minimum membrane thickness and the ability to generate nanopores in the two-dimensional lattices or to create slit-like nanochannels between adjacent sheets. This review will be addressed the important experimental development in GO-based membranes for gas and ion separations, emphasizing on intrinsic transport phenomena, and critical issues for practical applications.
