The Constituents of the Aerial Part of Gastrodia elata Blume

  • From the MeOH extract of the aerial part of Gastrodia elata Blume (GEB) (Family: Orchidaceae), eight compounds have been isolated on repeated column chromatography, and their structures were elucidated as dotriacontanoic acid (1), beta-sitosterol (2), 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde (3), docosanoic acid oxiranylmethyl ester (4), hentriacotanoic acid (5), octadecanoic acid (6), benzoic acid (7) and gastrodin (8) on the basis of their spectral evidences including EI-Mass and 2D-NMR spectrum. All of them were obtained from the aerial part of Gastrodia elata Blume for the first time, in which compound 4 is a novelty to our best knowledge. It is also known that a phenolic glucoside, gastrodin is a major constituent just like Gastrodia rhizome.

  • From the Paeoniae Radix, gallic acid methyl ester, (+)-catechin, paconiflorin, albiflorin, paeonol, ${\beta}-sitosterol$ and campesterol, benzoic acid, oleanolic acid, hederagenin and ${\beta}-sitosterol$ 3-O-glucoside were isolated and characterized by means of spectral data. Oleanolic acid and hederagenin have been isolated for the first time from the genus Paeonia.

  • A tannin compound has been isolated from the underground part of Rosa rugosa Thunb. and its structure has been established to be methyl gallate $3-O-{\beta}-D-(6'-O-galloyl)-glucopyranoside(1)$ on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic evidences. This compound was the first example in this plant.

대두제품 기능성 성분의 조리 중 변화

  • 대두에는 이소플라본(isoflavone), 콩단백질, 올리고당(oligosaccharides), 식이섬유(dietary fiber), pretense inhibitor, 사포닌(saponin), 피틴산(phytic acid), 피니톨(pinitol) 등과 같은 다양한 기능성 성분이 함유되어있다. 대두 이소플라본의 경우, boiling, steaming, roasting의 가열 방법 중 roasting이 손실을 최소화하는 가열방법이며, 대두제품 중에는 대두, natto, 두부, 두유, 된장, 고추장 순으로 함량이 감소한다. 대두나 단순대두 가공품의 경우는 glucoside의 비율이 높은 것에 비하여, natto를 제외한 발효 대두에 있어서 aglycone의 함량이 상대적으로 더 높게 나타난다. 대두 올리고당 함량(%)은 생대두분말(2.87)>대두(2.75)>두유(2.59)>두부(0.56)>natto(0.34) 순으로 높다. 생대두의 경우 상당량의 BBPI(Bowman-Birk pretense inhibitor)가 함유되어 있으나 다양한 가공, 조리 공정을 거친 대두 가공제품의 경우 대부분의 BBPI가 소실 또는 불활성화 되는 것으로 나타난다. 대두 phytate는 열과 수침에 비교적 안정하나, 발표기간이 길어지면 함량이 감소한다. 대두 피니톨은 수용성이며 열 및 산, 알칼리 조건에서 매우 안정하다. 대두는 생으로 섭취하지 않고 익혀서 먹거나, 다양한 대두제품의 형태로 섭취하므로, 생리활성을 기대하며 대두제품을 섭취할 때, 대두의 조리 및 가공 과정이 기능성 성분에 미치는 영향을 고려하는 것이 필요하다고 사료된다.

Isorhamnetin Glycosides with Free Radical and $ONOO^-$ Scavenging Activities from the Stamens of Nelumbo nucifera

  • In this study, we isolated two new isorhamnetin glycosides, designated as nelumboroside A (3) and nelumboroside B (4), as well as the previously-characterized isorhamnetin glucoside (1) and isorhamnetin rutinoside (2), from the n-BuOH fraction of Nelumbo nucifera stamens. The structures of the two new compounds were then determined, using chemical and spectroscopic techniques. All isolated isorhamnetin glycosides 1-4 showed marked antioxidant activities in the DPPH, and $ONOO^-$ assays.

Flavonoids analysis about mulberry fruit of Korean mulberry cultivar, 'Daeshim'

  • Mulberry fruit is a new income product in Korea sericulture due to the increase of fruit consumption. However, flavonoids of Korean mulberry cultivar for fruit production did not reported yet. In this study, the typical mulberry cultivar, 'Daeshim' was analyzed using ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography coupled with diode array detection and quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-DAD-QTOF/MS) technique for flavonoids analysis. Nine flavonoids were isolated and analyzed from Daeshim using UPLC-DAD-QTOF/MS chromatogram. According to quantitative analysis, rutin (66.1 mg/100g DW) and quercetin 3-O-(6"-O-malonyl) glucoside (26.7 mg/100g DW) were abundant in mulberry fruit. Our results might be used as basic information for mulberry consumption.

  • Apigenin-7-O-${\beta}$-D-glucoside, chrysoeriol, and luteolin were isolated from the aqueous ethanolic extract of Zostera marina L. leaves as the scavengers of reactive oxygen species (ROS) with the SC$\_$50/ values of 0.18 mM, 0.68 mM, and 0.18 mM against 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 0.04 mM, 0.03 mM, and 0.01 mM against superoxide radicals in the xanthine/xanthine oxidase system, respectively. The luteolin suppressed the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) up to 44% at 4.0 ${\mu}$M. (omitted)

  • We investigated the anti-proliferative effects of lxeris sonchifolia H. (godulbaegi) root extracts. luteolin(3'. 4', 5. 7-Q-glucoside and 3'. 4', 5, 7-tetrahydoxyflavone) and apigenin (3', 4'. 5. 7-O-gluconic acid) on HepG2 (p53 wild type) cells. Hep3B (p53 null) cells, and Chang liver cells. In MTT assay 3', 4'.5. 7-tetrahydoxyflavone showed the most efficient anti-proliferative effects on these three cell lines. However, there was no significant anti-proliferative effect on Chang liver cell line in MTT results. (omitted)

Quantitative Changes of Hydroxycinnamic Acid Derivatives and Anthocyanin in Corn (Zea mays L.) According to Cultivars and Heat Processes (옥수수의 품종별 및 가공별 Hydroxycinnamic Acid 유도체 및 Anthocyanin 색소의 함량 변화)

  • Hydroxycinnamic acid derivatives (HADs) and anthocyanins in corn (Zea mays L.) have recently been reported to have anticarcinogenic, anti-hypertensive, antidiabetic, antifungal, antioxidant, and anti-melanogenic activities. Five HADs and anthocyanins in corn were quantified by HPLC according to cultivars and heat processes. In addition, major anthocyanin of a black waxy corn was isolated and identified by several instrumental analysis, and its content was also quantified by HPLC according to heat processes. Of the ten corn cultivars, five waxy corn cultivars had moderate five HADs contents except "Baksa" waxy corn with higher two free cinnamic acids (FCAs), p-coumaric and ferulic acids. In contrast, three dent corn cultivars contained higher levels of three polyamine conjugates (PCs), CFP, DCP and DFP, and especially "P3394" had the highest amount of the three PCs. Two sweet corn cultivars had generally intermediate HADs levels between waxy and dent corn cultivars. Of the three colored-waxy corns, a black Mibaek waxy corn had the highest anthocyanin content. During heat processes, levels of two FCAs in the black waxy corn generally increased, whereas no significant change on three PCs contents was observed except the puffing process. Roasting, retort and puffing processes significantly increased two FCAs and especially, the puffed black waxy corn had the highest amount of FCAs. Meanwhile, most heat treatments except retort process, considerably decreased total anthocyanin contents, and especially the puffed black waxy corn had nearly no anthocyanin. Level of one major anthocyanin, pelargonidin 3-glucoside (P3G) isolated from a black waxy corn was appreciably decreased by heat treatments except retort process, which greatly increased P3G content. These results suggest that the retorted black waxy corn may be a promising high quality functional corn product.

Variation of Anthocyanin, and Isoflavone Contents in Korean Black Soybeans Grown at Different Latitudinal Locations (위도가 다른 재배지역에서 생육한 검정콩의 안토시아닌 및 이소플라본 함량 변이)

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the variation of anthocyanin, and isoflavone contents in five cultivars and two lines of Korean domestic black soybeans grown at different latitudinal locations, a high latitude, Suwon ($37^{\circ}$16'N) and a low latitude, Milyang ($35^{\circ}$30'N). Delphinidin-3-glucoside (D3G) contents of anthocyanin in Geomjeongkong # 3 and Ilpumgeomjeongkong, cyanidin-3-glucoside (C3G) content in Milyang # 113, petunidin-3-glucoside (Pt3G) contents in Milyang # 113, and Ilpumgeomjeongkong, and total anthocyanins in Milyang # 113 were highest among the seven black soybean cultivars and lines. D3G, C3G, and total anthocyanins in Geomjeongkong # 3, C3G, and total anthocyanins in Ilpumgeomjeongkong grown at high latitude were higher compared to low latitude. Daidzein, glycitein, genistein, and total isoflavone contents in Geomjeongkong # 4 were highest among the seven cultivars and lines. Daidzein contents of isoflavone in Geomjeongkong # 3, Milyang # 112, and Milyang # 113 grown at high latitude were higher compared to low latitude. Glycitein contents in Geomjeongkong # 3, and # 4 grown at high latitude were higher compared to low latitude, while it in Milyang # 113 grown at low latitude was higher compared to high latitude. Genistein contents in most black soybeans except Milyang # 113, and total isoflavone contents in Geomjeongkong # 4 and Cheongjakong grown at low latitude were higher compared to high latitude. The variations of anthocyanin except Pt3G and isoflavone contents seemed to be affected by environmental conditions like different latitude than the genotype because they showed the significant interaction between cultivars and locations.
