  • Although the research on electronic commerce is plentiful, there is little empirical research related to Web-Based Shopping Systems (WBSS). This is especially so in global electronic commerce circumstances. WBSS are the fastest growing segment of digital economies and are perceived as driving forces of electronic commerce in terms of global markets and digital business. Using WBSS, organizations have a new chance of their business evolving successfully as global marketers. This paper develops a unified model to assess the diffusion of WBSS. Factors that impact WBSS diffusion are identified and analyzed as the basis for empirical testing. A set of propositions is developed that allows operationalization of the model. The ultimate goal is to provide the new research insights for the academic circles and the practical guidelines for organizations wishing to undertake WBSS.

  • This paper studies whether export diversification mitigated the negative effect of the global financial crisis on exports using the Korean case. Specifically, we use annual data on the exports of 24 Korean manufacturing industries from 2000 to 2016 and examine whether the negative effect of the crisis on exports was less prevalent in industries that were more diversified in terms of country and product. We also examine whether export competitiveness, as measured by the revealed comparative advantage index by industry, had a mitigating effect on trade during the crisis. In order to study these issues, we use panel regression with a fixed-effect model for 24 Korean manufacturing industries. From our empirical analysis, we find that country diversification weakened the negative impact of the global financial crisis on Korea's exports, whereas neither product diversification nor export competitiveness did so.

  • Along with rapid global economic development, people are slowly becoming environmentally aware and green development is increasingly a vital topic of social concern. Academic circles are currently focusing on environmental protection and economic growth to explore the coordinated development of both and to achieve a win-win solution between them. To study the relationship between environmental protection experience and both cost and performance, this study empirically analyzes companies listing on the Shenzhen A-share market from 2014 to 2018. The results show that senior executives' environmental protection experience is negatively correlated with corporate costs, whereas it is positively correlated with business performance. These results provide empirical evidence of the importance of enterprises introducing and cultivating environmental personnel and insisting on sustainable development.

Forward participation significantly increases sector productivity in Chungnam area and backward participation affects the sector productivity after 2015. In the analysis for firm productivity in Chungnam area, GVC participation does not enhance the productivity of firms in Chungnam area. However, firms in the top 25% of productivity in 2007 improved their productivity with higher GVC participation and the productivity of firms in the top 25% of asset in 2007 was positively affected by forward pariticipation and negatively affected by backward participation. The productivity of firms that were in international market in 2007 was significantly worsened by GVC participation.

  • Wilt symptoms were observed in basil (Ocimum basilicum) plants grown in a vinyl greenhouse located in Gokseong, Korea, during crop disease surveys conducted in August 2022. The symptoms appeared as wilting of the plants and brown to dark brown longitudinal streaks on the stems at or above the soil line. The disease incidence among the plants in the vinyl greenhouse was 5-20%. Six isolates of Fusarium sp. were obtained from stem lesions and identified as Fusarium oxysporum species complex based on their morphological characteristics. Among the isolates, two were used for phylogenetic analysis and pathogenicity test. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that these isolates belonged to F. oxysporum. Pathogenicity of the isolates was confirmed through artificial inoculation test. The symptoms induced by the isolates were similar to those observed in basil plants in the investigated vinyl greenhouse. This is the first report of F. oxysporum causing Fusarium wilt in basil in Korea.

  • This paper investigates how firms increase customer acceptance of self-service technologies in retail, and the impact of self-efficacy on customer experience, satisfaction, and loyalty. We conducted our empirical research by administering 308 questionnaires to customers of self-service convenience stores in China. We employed a structural equation model to analyze the relationship between service quality, revisit intention, and word of mouth. The results indicate that perceived service quality significantly influences customer satisfaction, with the service quality of self-service retail and experience value being important factors in consumer acceptance of self-service retail stores. Additionally, we investigated the relationship between customer experience value, satisfaction, and loyalty, and found that self-service retail stores exert a significant impact on perceived self-efficacy. Informed by the research on customer acceptance of self-service technologies in retail, promoting further development of self-service retail technologies can effectively aid companies in generating profit while offering more convenience to customers.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to investigate how consumers' perceptions of brand localness or globalness influence their preference. This study further examines the role of consumers' risk propensity (risk taker vs. risk averse) on the relationship between brand localness (globalness) and consumer preference. Design/methodology/approach - Data was collected through an online survey with Chinese consumers and the PROCESS model in SPSS 23 was used to analyzed data. Findings - The results of this study indicate that consumers' perceptions of brand localness (globalness) positively influence their preference towards local (global) brands. Furthermore, this effect is moderated by risk propensity, with positive influence of perceived brand localness becoming stronger among consumers who are risk takers. However, consumers among risk averse reveal insignificant interaction effect between perceived brand globalness and consumer preference. Research implications or Originality - This study contributes to the body of international business research by exploring the impact of consumers' perceptions of brand localness/globalness in the context of their risk propensity. The findings of this study also offer global marketers meaningful insights when segmenting the target market.
