The country-of-origin may be used as surro-gate indicator when the consumers do not have confidence on quality evaluation. Since the global sourcing is getting popular in inter-national textile and apparel production the ef-fect of country-of-origin should be examined. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of country-of-origin on product evaluation and its relation to the consumer characteristics. A questionnaire was distribu-ted to 524 respondents aged 18 through 35. The results indicated that the country-of-ori-gin had significant influence on quality evalu-ation. Furthermore product components such as design price fabric and workmanship were also influenced by the country-of-origin. Price was perceived as more affected variable by country-of-origin than design fabric and work-manship. The interest in country-of-origin was different according to the consumer charac-teristics. Among demographics age and in-come turned out to be significant variables to determine the interest in country-of-origin. Contemporary consumers interested in fashion develop global tastes regarding consumption and senses on how much certain products cost in the global market place. Demand for foreign brands and products produced a new type of e-tailor called surrogate Internet shopping malls. Due to the unfamiliarity of such retailers, consumers may perceive different types of risks and may show different styles of seeking informations. The research interest of this study was to investigate the differences of risk perception and information search between surrogate e-mall shoppers and general e-mall shoppers. In addition, we examined the influence of these two variables on consumer satisfaction. A survey questionnaire was developed. Measures of three types of e-shopping risks (delivery, transaction, service), information search and satisfaction were included. Data from surrogate e-mall consumers and general e-mall consumers were statistically analyzed. Surrogate e-mall shoppers showed a higher level of product delivery risk and customer service risk than general e-mall shoppers. They also spend more time in seeking information before making purchases. Regression analysis showed that perceived risk had significant influence on information search and consumer satisfaction for surrogate e-mall shoppers, whereas for general e-mall shoppers, no significant influence was detected. The findings should assist marketers and academics in their understanding of the surrogate e-shopping malls.
As a plan for establishing Korea's cultural identity and its competitive edge in the world market and for enhancing Korea's cultural status, creative and unique high value-added cultural products need to be developed utilizing our inherent cultural assets. Accordingly, this study focused on the development of the design of fashion cultural products that utilize the convergence of Hangeul our peculiar font style and Korea's cultural heritage, which is registered as part of UNESCO's World Heritage. A design method was devised that converges archetypal images of cultural property with the unique Hangeul font in a way that targets Korea's symbolic architectures. The symbolic architecture includes Korea's world-heritage pagoda architecture, such as Seokgatap pagoda and Dabotap pagoda at Bulguksa temple. It also included the architecture of royal palace, such as Injeongjeon hall at Changdeokgung palace. Finally, it also included the architecture of the fortress wall, such as Paldalmun gate in Hwaseong fortress. Thus, by developing cultural assets made from a convergence between architecture and the Hangeul font as a consumer-product image that has universality, the possibility of cultural products was pursued by applying color planning after an analysis that involved extracting the compositional colors of the flags of the world. This research and approach will lead to opportunities for further progress for Korea's cultural products in the global market as a results of additional recognition for their value, excellence, and universal appeal.
