This article will review the historical background of the development of area studies and the adoption of global studies in Japan. Global studies, which focuses on global issues such as migration, mainly developed in the United States and Europe, but more recently found home in universities in Japan. A characteristic of the development of global studies in Japan is that specialists in area studies have played an important role in institutionally establishing this new discipline. "Japanese area studies" has an affinity with the concepts of global studies contrary to the situation with area studies in the United States. Conventional academic societies based on area studies in Japan, however, have been forced to change as a result of globalization and the establishment of global studies in Japan. I would like to point out that there is some discrepancy between the scholarship boundaries and the actual research and educational program in area studies. I will also discuss how we should reconsider the concept of "area" by tackling global issues.

The purpose of this study is to define the different stage of global management cultures for localization from the case study of two respective multinational corporations, Nestle and Samsung Electronics invested in Vietnam, and then to find out on how Korean multinational corporations can reduce the gap of global management culture compared to global multinational corporations. In fact, Samsung has been pretty much being on a right track from the global marketing management perspective, however still stand at the beginning stage in terms of leading the global corporate culture. In comparison to Nestle with over 130 years of worldwide business experience, Samsung Electronics having only a decade global experience as a Korean multinational corporation has been found to have an obvious gap in terms of globalization which is mainly caused by global corporate culture. Even though it doesn’t seem realistic for Korean multinational corporations to immediately catch up the gap of global corporate culture against global multinational corporations with long years of global experiences and history, Korean multinational corporations need to track the foot print of every steps of globalization particularly focused on the local management culture of global multinational corporations, so that they will be able to shorten the timing to develop the true meaning of global corporate culture being evolved from the Korean management style.

이 연구는 글로벌 교육이란 무엇이며 이러한 글로벌 교육과 지리교육이 어떤 관계를 지니는지를 탐색한 것이다. 먼저 최근 '월드(world)'를 대신하여 사용되고 있는 '글로벌(global)'이라는 용어가 교육 및 지리교육에서 지니는 의미를 밝히고, 글로벌 교육이 무엇을 지향하고 있는지를 살펴보았다. 이어 일찍이 글로벌 교육에 관심을 기울여 온 영국과 미국을 사례로 하여 글로벌 교육의 기원과 흐름을 추적하고, 이들 국가에서 전개되어 온 글로벌 교육의 특징을 검토하였다. 마지막으로 글로벌 교육과 지리교육의 관계 탐색으로, 여기에서는 글로벌 차원이 지리교육에서 왜 필요하고 중요한지를 살펴보고, 지리 교과가 범교육과정 주제인 글로벌 교육에 어떤 기여를 할 수 있는지를 논의하였다.

본 연구는 청소년들의 글로벌 리더십 역량과 교육 경험 내용 분석을 통해 글로벌 리더십 교육의 방향을 모색하였다. 경기도 내 중학교 3학년 학생 200명을 대상으로 하였으며, 지구적 안목 형성과 문화적 리터러시 함양의 2 개 영역을 중심으로 설문하였다. 지구적 안목 형성 영역에서는 지구적 비전과 지구적 문제해결력을, 문화적 리터러시에서는 문화다양성 인식과 인간 관계 영역을 설정하여 역량과 교육 경험을 조사-분석하였다. 설문조사 결과를 바탕으로 글로벌 리더십함양을 위한 교육 방향을 다음과 같이 제시하였다. 첫째, 글로벌 활동가로서의 끔을 갖게 하는 교육, 둘째, 지구적 문제해결 능력 함양, 셋째, 다양한 문화 인식 교육, 넷째, 문화다양성 교육의 다양화, 다섯째, 언어 등 특정 능력 위주의 교육보다는 다양한 영역에서의 교육, 여섯째, 문화다양성 인식과 지구적 안목 형성을 중요하게 다루고 있는 지리 교육을 통한 글로벌 리더십 교육 강화를 제시하였다.

As Korea's global IT sourcing is sluggish and supply of qualified IT personnel does not meet the demand, IT developers currently do not worry about their job security. The sluggish global sourcing is attributed to the lack of system design and analysis skills as well as lack of communication skills of IT personnel. Most of big Korean IT service firms operate in captive market. This is also attributed to the cause of the sluggish global sourcing. Some IT managers, especially in global IT service firms, concerned about the negative long term effect of the sluggish global sourcing on competitiveness and human infra capability of Korea's IT service industry. Managers in IT service firms expect skill requirement changes in the future when global sourcing becomes active. The skills and knowledge that they wish to retain in-house is business knowledge, system analysis and design knowledge, customer relation management skills, project management skills and industry knowledge. The jobs with the above knowledge usually involve customers.

In this paper, a new efficient algorithm for global motion estimation is proposed. This algorithm uses a previous 4-parameter model based global motion estimation algorithm and M-estimator for improving the accuracy and robustness of the estimate. The first algorithm uses the block based motion vector fields and which generates a coarse global motion parameters. And second algorithm is M-estimator technique for getting precise global motion parameters. This technique does not increase the computational complexity significantly, while providing good results in terms of estimation accuracy. In this work, an initial estimation for the global motion parameters is obtained using simple 4-parameter global motion estimation approach. The parameters are then refined using M-estimator technique. This combined algorithm shows significant reduction in mean compensation error and shows performance improvement over simple 4-parameter global motion estimation approach.

Purpose - The purpose of this study is to examine the impacts of global uncertainty on gross and net capital flows in Korea. Design/methodology/approach - We conduct an empirical analysis of the impact of global uncertainty on the net and gross capital flows in korea. To investigate the impacts, we incorporate linear and nonlinear ARDL models. Findings - We find global uncertainty has negative impacts on the gross and net capital flows. But this impact is nonlinear. The negative global uncertainty shocks are bigger than the positive global uncertainty shocks on capital flows in Korea. And we find this relationship is noticeable in gross capital inflows. We also find interest rate difference between the US and Korea is the main driving source in capital flow after the Global financial crisis. Research implications or Originality - The results of this study suggest that the negative impacts of global uncertainty are noticeable. This means that economic players in financial markets should be more concerned about the bad news.
