Coating films of $SiO_2-TiO_2-AgO$ have been prepared on soda-lime-silica slide glasses and single crystal silicon wafer by the sol-gel method using a spin-coating technique. Commercially available tetraethyl orthosilicate, titanium trichloride, and silver-nitrates were used as starting materials. The heat treatment temperature of this coating films was $500^{\circ}C$ properly, obtained from TG-DTA result. The films with thickness of 310 nm were prepared by 5 times coating. In the case of l0 mol% AgO, the film showed a crack-free and smooth surface, but the higher Ago content exhibited the more pin hole and the segregated cluster of AgO. The IR absorbance of the films decreased in the range of 400 nm to 700 nm with the increase of annealing temperature. And the reflectance of the coating films decreased and the color was changed light yellow to white yellow with the increase of Ago content.

In this study, nuclear radiation shielding and rigidity parameters of Y (0.1-x)B0.6Bi1.8O3La2x glassy system were investigated in order to determine it's suitability for use as nuclear radiation shielding materials. Therefore, a group of bismuth borate glass samples with La2O3 additive were synthesized using the technique of melt quenching. According to the results, the increase of the La2O3 additive increases the density of the glass samples and the mass attenuation coefficient (μm) values, whereas the half-value layer (HVL) and mean free path (MFP) values decrease. The effective atomic number (Zeff) is also enhanced with an increment of both mass removal cross section for neutron (ΣR) and absorption neutron scattering cross section (σabs). In addition to the other parameters, rigidity parameter values were theoretically examined. The increase of La2O3 causes some other important magnitudes to increase. These are the average crosslink density, the number of bonds per unit volume, as well as the stretching force constant values of these glass samples. These results are in concordance with the increase of elastic moduli in terms of the Makishima-Mackenzie model. This model showed an increase in the rigidity of the glass samples as a function of La2O3.

There are various manufacturing processes for pure $SiO_2$ that is used as abrasives, chemicals, filters, and glasses, and in metallurgy and optical industries. In the optical fiber industry, to produce $SiO_2$ preform, $SiCl_4$ is utilized as a raw material. However, the combustion reaction of $SiCl_4$ has caused critical environmental issues, such as ozone deficiency by chlorine compounds, the greenhouse effect by carbon dioxide and corrosive gas such as hydrochloric acid. Thus, finding an alternative source that does not have those environmental issues is important for the future. Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (OMCTS or D4) as a chlorine free source is recently promising candidate for the $SiO_2$ preform formation. In this study, we first conducted a vaporizer design to vaporize the OMCTS. The vaporizer for the OMCTS vaporization was produced on the basis of the results of the vaporizer design. The size of the primary particle of the $SiO_2$ formed by OMCTS was less than 100 nm. X-ray diffraction patterns of the $SiO_2$ indicated an amorphous phase. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy analysis revealed the Si-O-Si bond without the -OH group.
Nasigels of composition Na0.75Zr2PSi2O12 and Na3Zr2PSi2O12 have been synthesized by the sol-gel technique using metal alkoxide precursors. The monolithic dry gels of Na0.75Zr2PSi2O12 with no crack have been prepared by the control of the shrinkage rte, but gels of Na3Zr2PSi2O12 were impossible to prepare without cracking. The gels treated up to 80$0^{\circ}C$ led to the formtion of glass but the glasses were converted to the crystalline phases at above this temperature. Crystaline phases precipitated from the Na0.75Zr2PSi2O12 glass were NASICON-like phase, Na2Si2O5, and free Zirconia. Phase that precipitated from the Na3Zr2PSi2O12 was only rhombohedral NASICON. For Na0.75Zr2PSi2O12 gels, framework of PO4 tetrahedra and SiO4(PO4) tetrahedra formed at low temperature but changed to that of SiO4 and SiO4(PO4) tetrahedras as it were crystallized. In the case of Na3Zr2PSi2O12 gel, framework of isolated PO4 and SiO4 tetrahedras formed at low temperature but changed to SiO4(PO4) tetrahedra framework which usually formed in the NASICON crystal after crystallization at high temperature. The gels treated up to 80$0^{\circ}C$ contained the residual water. The ionic conduction was attributed to the motion of proton and Na+ ion at low (up to 150~20$0^{\circ}C$) and high temperatures, respectively. As the temperature of heat treatment increased, ionic conductivity gradaully increased with the extent of precipitation of crystalline phase.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the changes in dentinal permeability after application of dentin desensitizer on exposed dentin immediately after ultrasonic scaling to teeth with non-carious cervical lesions. Thirty caries-free extracted molars were fixed to slide glasses after horizontally being sectioned at 5 mm below the cemento- enamel junction (CEJ). The prepared specimen was connected to a fluid flow measuring device (nano-Flow), and a V-shaped cavity was formed at the CEJ to imitate the non-carious cervical lesion. After no fluid leakage was confirmed in the connected system with specimen, tooth surface was treated ultrasonic cleaning with piezoelectric ultrasonic scalers until dentinal tubules were exposed. And 6 different desensitizers were applied on exposed dentin. Real-time measurements of dentinal fluid flow were performed during ultrasonic scaling and application of dentin desensitizer. To evaluate the occlusion of exposed dentinal tubules, tooth surface was examined by SEM. Following results were observed. After ultrasonic scaling, more dentinal tubules were exposed on the tooth with non-carious cervical lesions compared to tooth without lesions. The rate of fluid flow measured with nano-Flow system had correlation with the degree of dentin occlusion observed with SEM after application of desensitizers on exposed dentin. Desensitizers with glutaraldehyde and HEMA did not decrease the rate of fluid flow and did not show dentin occlusion. Desensitizers with oxalate showed the limited effects on the rate of fluid flow and dentinal tubule occlusion. Desensitizer with resin monomer showed the significant effect on the rate of fluid flow and dentin occlusion.
Monochromatic amber phosphor in glasses (PiGs) for automotive LED applications were fabricated with $YAG:Ce^{3+}$, $CaAlSiN_3:Eu^{2+}$ phosphors and Pb-free silicate glass. After synthesis and thickness-thinning process, PiGs were mounted on high-power blue LED to make monochromatic amber LEDs. PiGs were simple mixtures of 566 nm yellow YAG, 615 nm red $CaAlSiN_3:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor and transparent glass frit. The powders were uniaxially pressed and treated again through CIP (cold isostatic pressing) at 200 MPa for 20 min to increase packing density. After conventional thermal treatment at $550^{\circ}C$ for 30 min, PiGs were applied by using GPS (gas pressure sintering) to obtain a fully dense PiG plate. As the phosphor content increased, the density of the sintered body decreased and PiGs containing 30 wt% phosphor had full sintered density. Changes in photoluminescence spectra and color coordination were investigated by varying the ratio of $YAG/CaAlSiN_3$ and the thickness of the plates. Considering the optical spectrum and color coordinates, PiG plates with $240{\mu}m$ thickness showed a color purity of 98% and a wavelength of about 605 nm. Plates exhibit suitable optical characteristics as amber light-converting material for automotive LED applications.

We determined the radiation shielding properties for 10CaO-xPbO-(90-x) deteriorated silica gel (DSG) glass system (x = 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, and 45 mol.%). The mass attenuation coefficient (MAC) has been estimated at photon energies of 74.23, 97.12, 122, 662, 1173, and 1332 keV using a narrow beam X-ray attenuation and transmission experiment, the XCOM program, and a PHITS simulation. The obtained MAC values were applied to estimate the half value layer (HVL), mean free path (MFP), effective atomic number, and effective electron density. Results show that the MAC value of the studied glasses ranges between 0.0549 and 1.4415 cm2/g, increases with the amount of PbO, and decreases with increasing photon energy. The HVL and MFP values decrease with increasing PbO content and increase with increasing photon energy. The recycled glass, with the addition of PbO content (20-45 mol.%), exhibited excellent radiation shielding capabilities compared to standard barite and ferrite concretes and some glass systems. Moreover, the experimental radiation shielding parameters agree with the XCOM and PHITS values. This study suggests that this new waste-recycled glass is an effective and cost-saving candidate for X-ray and gamma-ray shielding applications.
The glass series modified by tungsten oxide was created using the compounds (75-x) B2O3- 10SrCO3- 8TeO2- 7ZnO - xWO3, where x = 0, 1, 5, 10, 22, 27, 34, and 40% mole percentage. A UV-visible spectrophotometer and thermogravimetric-differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA) methods were employed to characterize the specimen's optical and phase transition attributes, respectively. The mass-attenuation coefficient (AC) of all created glasses from BSTZW0 to BSTZ7 was estimated using Geant4 code from 0.05 to 3 MeV and compared to the XCOM software results, with a relative difference of less than 2% between the two results. The increase of WO3 percentage lead to an increase in the Linear-AC at each studied energy, and this is mainly due to the fact that the higher the percentage of WO3 in the glass increases its density which causes an increase in the Linear-AC, so an energy of 0.06 MeV, as an example, the values of the Linear-AC was 4.009, 4.509, 5.442, 6812, 8.564, 9.856, 10.999 and 11.628 cm-1 form BSTZW0 too BSTZW7, respectively. The Half-VL (value layer), Mean-FP (free path), Tenth-VL, and Radiation attenuation performance (RAP) were also calculated for the current BSTZW-glass samples and revealed that BSTZW7 had the best gamma ray attenuation performance at all discussed energies when compared to other studied glass samples.

Biofilms are surface-attached microbial communities with phenotypic and biochemical properties distinct from free-living planktonic cells. Biofilm bacteria show much greater resistance than planktonic counterparts and much higher concentration of biocide is needed to treat biofilms compared to the dosage used for planktonic bacteria. As a result, alternative strategies or more effective agents exhibiting activity against biofilm-producing micro-organisms are of great interest. Therefore, we turned our attention to control of biofilm of S. aureus. The aims of this research are to investigate substances which inhibit the formation of biofilm by S. aureus and to suggest effective materials for controlling skin problems. We coated slide glasses with human placental collagen and the coverslip was incubated with test materials and bacteria. The coverslip was stained with crystal violet and we measured optical density of each sample. The biofilm inhibitory activity was calculated by crystal violet staining degrees. In this study, S. aureus ATCC 6538 was used as test organism. Our results show that both water soluble and insoluble Hinoki cypress polysaccharide strongly inhibited biofilm formation. Whereas, green tea and sunset hibiscus root extract promoted biofilm. Xylitol showed a concentration dependent effect; high concentration (3 % and 5 %) of xylitol reduced biofilm while promoted biofilm formation at a concentration of 1 %. These results support that Hinoki cypress polysaccharide and xylitol have ability to suppress biofilm formation.
