  • The stability and performance (peel strength) of the acrylic copolymer and various modified rosin systems were investigated. The peel strength was measured over a wide range of scaling rates, and the influence of the viscoelasticity of the PSA(pressure sensitive adhesive) was considered. In the case of miscible systems, the peak of peel strength (PSA performance) over wide peel rates was changed and modified systematically with increasing glass transition temperature of the blends. The peak of the peel strength for blended systems shifts toward the lower rate side as glass transition temperature ($T_g$) of the blend increased. The influence of esterification of the rosin on performance and stability against deterioration was greatly modified by blending with rosin of glycerol ester and rosin pentaerythritol ester. The failure mode of the blend varies with the combination with acrylic copolymer and modified rosin, and cohesive failure was found at a lower peel rate while interfacial failure was found at a high peel rate. A few systems where a single Tg could be measured, despite the fact that two phases were observed microscopically, were detected.

  • Polybutadiene(PB) was epoxidized to various extents with m-chloroperbenzoic acid (MCPBA) in homogeneous solution. The thermal properties of the epoxidized PBs were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). As a result of epoxidation the glass transition temperature (Tg) of PB increased by approximately $0.8^{\circ}$ for each 1 mol% of epoxidation. The thermal decomposition of the epoxidised PBs occurred in two-step process, while that of PB exhibited apparent one-step degradation process.

  • The aim of this research is to obtain a numerical material model for an amorphous glassy polymer, polycarbonate (PC), which can be used in finite element analysis (FEA) of the micro thermal imprint process near the glass transition temperature. An understanding of the deformation behavior of the PC specimens was acquired by performing tensile stress relaxation tests. The viscoelastic material model based on generalized Maxwell model was introduced for the material near Tg to establish the FE model based on the commercial FEA code ABAQUS/Standard with a suitable set of parameters obtained for this material model from the test data. Further validation of the model and parameters was performed by comparing the analysis of FE model results to the experimental data.

  • Glasses in the system of 45CaO-25TiO2-30P2O5 containing 1 mole% of M2O(M=Li, Na, K) were melted and crystallized. And their crystal phases were Ca3(PO4)2, CaTi4(PO4)6, and TiO2. Porous glass-ceramics with skeleton of two crystal phase CaTi4(PO4)6 and TiO2 were prepared by selective leaching of Ca3(PO4)2 with 0.1 N-HCl. Glass transition temperature(Tg) and crystallization temperature(Tc) were decreased by addition of 1 mole% alkali metal oxide. Pore size of porous glass-ceramics was increased with increasing heat treatment temperature and its dependence on heat treatment temperature was decreased with addition of Na2O and K2O. It was found that porous glass-ceramics of parent glass and containing 1mole% M2O(M=Li, Na, K) composition had maximum specific surface area, porosity and maximum of crystallzed phase by heat treatment at 80$0^{\circ}C$, 76$0^{\circ}C$, 78$0^{\circ}C$, 80$0^{\circ}C$ respectively.

  • A series of new NLO-active poly(4-nitrophenylallylamine) derivatives was synthesized by the nucleophilic substitution reaction of several substituted 4-nitrohalobenzenes and poly(allylamine hydrochloride). All polymers obtained were amorphous and their glass transition temperatures (Tg) were observed around 148-160 ℃. For each of these polymers, their specific Tg values were dependent on characteristic electronic structures. UV-visible absorption spectra showed maximum absorption intensity at 355-393 nm for π-π* transition of alkylaminonitrophenyl groups. The χ(2)value of poly(4-nitrophenylallylamine), as determined by the second harmonic generation at 1064 nm, for a thin polymer film poled at an elevated temperature, was 1.4x10-8esu. The third-order NLO properties of poly(4-nitrophenylallylamine) derivatives were evaluated through measurement of degenerate four-wave mixing technique and χ(3) coefficient in the range of 2.7~3.2x10-12 esu at 602 nm was found with 400 fs laser pulses.

  • We have investigated thermal properties showed by changing the content of carbon black which is the component parts of semiconductive shield in underground power transmission cable. Specimens were made of sheet with the nine of those for measurement. Heat capacity (${\Delta}$H), glass transition temperature (Tg) and melting temperature (Tm) were measured by DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry). The ranges of measurement temperature were from -100($^{\circ}C$) to 100($^{\circ}C$), and heating rate was 4($^{\circ}C$/min). And then thermal diffusivity was measured by LFA 447. The dimension of measurement temperature was 25[$^{\circ}C$]. Glass transition temperature of specimens was showed near -25[$^{\circ}C$] and the heat capacity and the melting temperature from the DSC results were simultaneously decreased according to increasing the content of carbon black, while thermal diffusivity was increased according to increasing the content of carbon black. Because ionic impurities of carbon black having Fe, Co, Mn, Al and Zn are rapidly passed kinetic energy increasing the number of times breaking during the unit time with the near particles according to increasing vibration of particles by the applied heat energy.

  • Elastic-factor of elastic epoxy were investigated by TMA (Thermomechanical Analysis), DMTA (Dynamic Mechanical Thermal Analysis), TGA (Thermogravimetric Analysis) and FESEM (Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope) for structure-images analysis as toughness-investigation to improve brittleness of existing epoxy resin. A range of measurement temperature of the TMA and DMTA was changed from -20($^{\circ}C$) to $200^{\circ}(C)$, and TGA was changed from $0^{\circ}(C)$ to $600^{\circ}(C)$. Glass transition temperature (Tg) of elastic epoxy was measured through thermal analysis devices with the content of 0(phr), 20(phr) and 35(phr). Also, thermal expansion coefficient (a), high temperature, modulus and loss factor were investigated through TMA, TGA, and DMTA. In addition, the structure of specimens was analyzed through FESEM, and then elastic-factor of elastic epoxy was visually showed by FESEM. As thermal analysis results, 20(phr) was more excellent than 30(phr) thermally and mechanically. Specially, thermal expansion coefficient, high temperature, modulus, and damping properties were excellent. By structure-images analysis through FESEM, we found elastic-factor of elastic epoxy that is not existing epoxy, and proved high impact.

  • Various composition of $K_2O{\cdot}CaO{\cdot}P_2O_5$ glasses were studied by melting process to identify glass forming region. Thermal properties were observed by DSC and TG-DTA, structural properties were investigated by FT-IR and Raman Spectroscopy. The glass transition temperature (Tg) and softening temperature (Ts) were decreased with increasing $K_2O\;and\;P_2O_5$ contents. The basic structural unit of phosphate glasses is the $PO_2\;and\;PO_4^{3-}$ groups to make a cross-link and P-O-P group to form skeleton structure. As CaO content was increased, the P-O-P field strength in these glass was increased and intensity of $PO_2\;and\;PO_4^{3-}$ stretch was decreased.

  • 2,5-Di-(2'-hydroxyethoxy)-4'-nitrostilbene (3) was prepared and polycondensed with terephthaloyl chloride, adipoyl chloride, and sebacoyl chloride to yield novel T-type polyesters (4-6) containing the NLO-chromophores dioxynitrostilbenyl groups, which constituted parts of the polymer backbones. Polymers 4-6 are soluble in common organic solvents such as acetone and N,N-dimethylformamide. They showed thermal stability up to 260 oC in thermogravimetric analysis with glass-transition temperatures obtained from differential scanning calorimetry in the range 90-95 oC. The second harmonic generation (SHG) coefficients (d33) of poled polymer films at the 1064 nm fundamental wavelength were around 1.42 ´ 10-9 esu. The dipole alignment exhibited high thermal stability up to 5 oC higher than glass-transition temperature (Tg), and there was no SHG decay below 100 oC due to the partial main-chain character of polymer structure, which is acceptable for NLO device applications.
