  • This study uses Gini coefficient to index the inequality of academic information resource among universities to identify the areas where the gap is extremely severe, and analyzes the Gini coefficient over time for 10 years to show how the gap is changing. In addition, the degree and characteristics of the gap appearing by type of universities such as metropolitan universities, local national universities, private universities, and colleges were also compared. As a result, first, the university library academic information infrastructure showed a severe level of disparity (0.6 - 0.9), and the inequality was more severe in serials, electronic resources, and reference service. Even when the relative Gini coefficient was calculated considering the number of students, the inequality was over 0.4 in serial etc. Second, the Gini coefficient trend over the last decade shows that the inequality has decreased toward equality in the re-education time of employees and electronic information resources, but not in other sectors. Third, it was found that special universities and universities in the metropolitan area showed a large gap between universities of the same kind, and local national universities showed the best gap level as well as the best academic information infrastructure.

  • This study employed the Gini coefficient decomposition analysis to classify and examine fishery household income inequality according to income sources. The raw data from the Fisheries Economic Survey by the National Statistical Office were used for the analysis after equalization according to the recommended method of the OECD. In particular, the Gini coefficient was decomposed by classifying with and without public subsidies, and the contribution, correlation, and marginal effect by income source were presented. As a result of the analysis, the inequality of fishing income and non-fishing income of fishermen was worsening, and the inequality of transfer income was continuously easing. Among them, fisheries subsidies have been analyzed to have the greatest contribution to the Gini coefficient of gross income and the highest relative marginal effect, although distribution inequality has been alleviated. On the other hand, other subsidies, including public pensions, were found to have the opposite contribution, correlation, and marginal effect to fisheries subsidies. The results of this analysis showed that even within public subsidies, the contribution to income redistribution might differ depending on the nature of the subsidy. In addition, in the case of other public subsidies, it can be seen that the transition from selective welfare to universal welfare occurs.

  • This paper analyzes the changes in wage inequality and its contributing factors since the mid-2000s. Although trends vary by data and wage indices, the Gini coefficient of the total wage of all workers shows an increasing trend due to the part-time increase of less than 35 hours per week, while the wage Gini coefficient of hourly wages and the total wage Gini coefficient of full-time workers showed a declining trend. Part-time increases have increased inequality based on total wages, but part-time hourly wage increases can be considered to have reduced hourly wage inequality. Therefore, as a result of decomposing the factor of Gini coefficient reduction only for full-time workers, factors that contributed absolutely to inequality reduction were variables such as job tenure, career, and occupation, and employment type variable has little effects, and the establishment size variable deepens inequality. The variables such as industry, age, and education did not contribute significantly to the inequality change. This is attributed to the decline in wage premiums for job tenure and management and professional jobs and the increase in wage premiums for large-scale businesses.

  • This study tried to estimate the concentration indices of 15 forested national parks using Gini coefficient and Lorenz curve which can be measure the degree of inequality. The concentration indices were estimated by two parts which are yearly index for the periods of 1997-2005 and travel origin area(city or province) distribution index each national park. The empirical results were as follows: first, yearly Gini coefficients showed severe inequality. Particularly, 2004 and 2005 Gini coefficients were .453 and .446. which are intensive inequality compared with other years. Second, in travel origin area distribution each national park, Gini coefficients of Bukhansan and Kyeryungsan national park were .916 and .855 which are the great inequality compared with other national parks. The other hand, Gini coefficients of Dukyusan and Byunsanbando national parks were .508 and .628 which are the lowest inequality. The national park policy manager should find out the factors of concentration and deconcentration each year and national park and decided the visitor distribution policy which visitor size and scope for balancing the natural resources use.

  • This study collected and analyzed the datum related to consultation fee in National Health Insurance Corporation and characteristics of dental clinics for 819 dental clinics in Daegu and Kyungpook districts to specify the distribution and concentration rate of health insurance consultation fee and the critical elements of insurance consultation fee income. The average health insurance consultation fee per one dental clinics is 77.2 million won and the case of women dentists is 78.7 million won. That is higher than 79.9 million won that the case of man dentist. According to age, under 39 is 85.5 million won that is highest, declining little by little above 60s the number decreased to merely 23.9 million won. And the dentists whose business years from 5 to 10 are the highest and declining gradually. The more of engaging members to dental clinics is the larger the income. The average insurance consultation fee of Daegu province is 69.3 million won, but that of Kyungpook is 89.6 million won. Decile distribution ratio of dental clinics consultation fee income is 0.526 and Gini coefficient is 0.303. Decile distribution ratio of Daegu district is 0.489, Gini coefficient is 0.320. This explain the larger inequality compared with Kyungpook(0.623, 0.273). With age, Gini coefficient of below 39 is 0.260, the higher age is, the larger the number is, up to abode 60 the coefficient is 0.504, the degree of inequality is most extremely. insurance consultation fee and the number of cases of consultation is related to the age of dentists, duration of practice, the number of dentists and staffs engaging and provinces. That is, the lesser the age is, the longer the years of engaging are, the more the number of dentists and staffs we, the larger insurance consultation fee income and the number of cases of consultations we. And the fee fur one case is closely related to age and provinces. The fee for one case is higher in lower age, and that of in Daegu dental clinics is higher than in Kyungpook.

  • The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of income inequality on consumption expenditure in other to understand income-led growth policy. This is basically resulted in the income inequality had gotten worse since global financial crisis in many economies. Malthusian hypothesis which signifies the relationship between the income inequality and the consumption expenditure revisited for this purpose. The paper utilizes multiple break points regression and TGARCH model, and these methodologies are tentatively applied to the case of U.S and U.K. This is because that long-run time series data enables to formulate a stylized fact in general. Empirical evidence suggests that there does not exist a solid relationship among APC, income inequality by Gini coefficient, and consumption expenditure before the year of 2000, but Malthusian hypothesis is supported by weak basis in U.S while strong basis in U.K after since then. It implies that the income inequality has to be alleviated to maximize its effectiveness of the income-led growth policy.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the financial status of Korean elderly households to make a financial plan for retirement preparation. The sample obtained from 1997 KHPS, consisted of 326 households of 55-64 aged and 210 households of 65 and over aged. Statistics employed for the analysis were frequencies, percentile, univariate analysis and logistic analysis. And Lorenz curve and Gini coefficient were used to compare the financial status. The results could be summarized as follows. First, total income, total expenditure, total debt and net worth of 55-64 aged group were higher than those of 65 and over group, while total asset of 55-64 aged group was similar to 65 and over group's Second, total expediture to total imcome ratio(R1) and total asset to total debt ratio(R4) of 55-64 aged group were higher than 65 and over group's, but net worth to minimum cost of living ratio(R2) and financial asset to monthly expenditure ratio(R3) of 65 and over group were higher than 55-64 aged group's . Third, R4's Gini coefficient was the highest and R1's Gini coefficient was the lowest among all Gini coefficients. Also, R1's and R4's Gini coefficients of 55-64 aged group were greater than 65 and over group's. ourth, variables affecting R1's stability of 55-64 aged group were household head's age, educatonal attainment and family type, while those of 65 and over group were household head's age, past economic experience and the number of children. There was no significant variable affecting R2's stability of 55-64 aged group, but there was only household head's pst economic experience affecting those of 65 and over group. The variable contributing to R3's stability of 55-64 aged group was residence while the variables of 65 and over group were household head's educational attainment, past economic experience and the number of children. The variables contributing to R4's stability of 55-64 aged group were the number of children and residence, and the number of children was one variable of contributing to R4's stability of 65 and over aged group.

  • The purpose of Inequality Index Decomposition is to know the cause of overall inequality through decomposing aggregate inequality index into relevant components. Previous studies have mostly focused on the absolute contribution meaning that how much each component possesses out of overall inequality. However it could be more important to know the marginal contribution and inequality effect of each component in order to implement policies reducing overall inequality effectively. For this, we decomposed Gini Coefficient as representative inequality index into income sources or social welfare programs and calculated each Gini Income Elasticity(GIE). Analysis result says that regular employee income and employer(or the self-employed) income, of which GIE are 1.205 and 1.867, are classified as inequality-increasing income source. GIE can be one of good methods to analyse the inequality effect of various income sources and social welfare programs.

  • Purpose: Housing is the most essential element for well-being in a society. The government would continuously supply decent housings to make a better living condition for people. As various housing policies have been implemented into practice, the effectiveness of policies need to be assessed and improved to rearrange the financial resources. The indicators, such as quality of life, housing supply amount and etc, could be used to estimate housing policy to provide a guidance for a new policy direction. Though various indicators are utilized to assess the policy effect, most of the items are depend upon a relativeness in aspect to assessment goal, items, time and its weighting. Therefore, it needs an absolute indicator to compare the policy effectiveness regardless of time elapse or items. In this paper, it developed the housing welfare indicator to assess the level of living condition, utilizing the Gini coefficient which is used for explanation on income distribution. Method: To suggest an inequity indicator, this paper used Gini coefficient to explain the level of living condition which is used on economics to provide the level of income distribution. Data are collected through the Korea Housing Survey by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport between 2006 and 2014. Indicators of living condition focused on the development of the estimation model using the frequency of room use. Result: Gini coefficient between 2004 and 2014 is about 1.5 score except in year 2013, and the trend of score has been decreased slowly which means the inequality gradually improved. In this result, it implies the living condition and distribution level would be improved than before.

  • Although the relationship between income and income inequality has previously been discussed, the present study applies a dynamic approach to analyze the specific relationship between forest household income and income inequality. For this analysis, a unit root test and a cointegration test were conducted to characterize the nature of income time-series data. After converting unstable time-series data into stable time-series data, a VAR model was estimated. Based on this model, an impulse-response was generated and variance-decomposition analysis was performed. These analyses showed that the effect of forest household income was relatively larger than that of the Gini coefficient, and that the impact of forest household income not only caused income to increase but also caused the Gini coefficient to decrease. In addition, the impact of the Gini coefficient had an impact on reducing forest household income and further increasing income inequality. We conclude that, with the aim of alleviating the inequality of forest household income, an income growth policy would be more effective than an income distribution policy.
