  • This study is on the reading method of Korean old poetry in the digital age. Now days, we are living in digital media. The method of getting, organizing, and producing information is changed a lot. So for keeping pace with this change, we should reflect our teaching method. Of course, the purpose of our reflection is not to follow digital media's method and change or alter existing reading or teaching method, but it is to identify proper own reading strategy of old poetry and adjust existing method for our student who are skilled with digital media. We propose three kinds of method for student readers in school. These are 1) starting like a newspaper reader, 2) getting context (reading, making hyperlink), and 3) figuring as an architect (reading as space or scenery creator). In addition, we think about recent tendency that Korean old poetry is de-constructed and re-constructed as digital contents in digital space. We call it digitalizing of old poetry. The experiencing old poetry as a digital contents is different from reading old poetry, so we cannot alter old poetry reading experience into experience of digital contents. In conclusion, digitalizing contents should be used restrictively to fertilize reading experience of original old poetry.

  • As nation's infrastructure is getting old, nondestructive evaluation of existing structures and construction quality control are getting important. In this paper non-destructive evaluations of concrete members using impact echo and SASW methods are introduced. Both techniques are based on the stress wave propagations. Experimental tests were performed using beam type concrete member where voids and cracks are included. Within reasonable accuracy, void locations were detected using impact echo method and the dynamic modulus of concrete were measured using SASW method. Both NDT methods showed a feasibility for the implementation into quality evaluaton of concrete members in practice

  • New building, reinforcement, maintenance and test of power equipments are always necessary in a power system. Our power system is getting old and the total power capacity is also getting large, so power equipment outages are getting often. Power euipment outages make less margine for a stable condition of a power system operation. Therefore, through overviews and countermeasures against the outage should be made in order to be in a stable operational conditions during the outage. We have too many outages over 300 per month in our power system. So, we can't have enough time to study our power system and to make countermeasures without a helping program. This program is designed to give various and appropriate informations necessary for an outage scheduling. By applying this program, we can raise the job efficiency high and spare the time spent. So we can afford to do through system studies and make good countermeasures. I think this program can contribute greately to power system stable operation.

  • The aim of this paper is to investigate the development of inflected words of Korean based on the analysis of 3 to 8 year-old children's spontaneous speech. For this purpose, the authors transcribe the spontaneous speech of 10 Korean children for each age and classified inflected word. The result of the analysis is as follows : $\circled1$ In the verbs simple words are occupied 62%, derivative words 18% and complex words 20%. In the adjectives simple words are 82%, derivative words 7% and complex words 11%. $\circled2$ The children's getting older, derivative and complex words are increased, in spite of simple words are reduced. $\circled3$ 4 year-old children get to start the ability of word formation and then since the children become 8 year-old, the children complete that ability almost all we think.

  • Objectives : Osteoporosis is the most common metabolic disease of the bone, and one of the most important public health problems around the world. Obesity rate gradually increases as women grow older. The purpose of the study was to investigate the changes between bond mineral density(BMD) and body mass index(BMI) according to sex and age. Methods : We measured the bone mineral density(BMD) of lumber spine(L2-L4) and femoral neck in 10000 normal adult, using dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA; DPX-alpha). and also measured the body mass index(BMI) in 9810 normal adult. then we analysed the changes of BMD and BMI according to sex and age. Results : 1. As getting older, male's T-score of lumbar spine(L2-L4) was slowly decreased. On the other hand, female's T-score of lumbar spine was sharply dropped after 46 years old. 2. As getting older, male's T-score of femoral was slowly decreased. On the other hand, female's T-score of femoral was sharply dropped after 49 years old. 3. Irrespective of age, male's BMI keep up the extent within a definite period of numerical value. As getting older, female's BMI continued its upward trend. Conclusions : Much more attention should be needed for female patient suffering from osteoporosis and obesity than male.

  • This study investigated the use of grammatical markers of Korean speaking children(from 3 to 8 years old) and adults. Participants had no problem of speech and language. In this paper we examined the usage of grammatical markers were increasing from 3 to 8 years old even though it was still increasing after 8 years old. Specifically, they used subjective marker and adverb marker at all ages in large. A few adjective marker were used at all age group including adults. But the frequency of objective marker is increasing from 3 to adults. The pattern of usage is getting similar to adult's. The present study was also designed to investigate the characteristics of children's errors of grammatical markers. Results showed that there were a little differences among the age-groups. The substitution errors were occurred most frequently in all age-groups.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore university students′ perceptions about the elderly before and after an introductory course for gerontology. Sixty-two male and female undergraduate students participated in the study as a part of the course requirement. Throughout the semester, theme students received a series of classroom lectures on gerontology, as well as participated in diverse activities to experience elderly lives. A survey was administered with the students at the beginning of the first day of class and at the end of the semester. By the end of the unit university students were more likely to have accurate conceptions of and positive attitudes toward aging and the aged. More specifically, they were more likely to (1) perceive "old" and "getting old" as a positive one, (2) seem older adults spend their time on active self-development and social activities, (3) view older adults are important, (4) change opinions about what an old person and young person do together, and (5) have a positive outlook on their own future lives as older adults.

  • Sleep is an essential component for health and the quality of life of individuals, and is affected by multiple factors. Thereby, sleep impairment is known to be frequent even in healthy subjects. The purpose of the study is to compare sleep patterns and related factors between healthy young and old adults and to identify aging effects upon sleep in a cross-sectional way. The survey questionnaire was developed by translation and modification of two well-known sleep questionnaires which were originally developed by Monroe(1967) and Ellis, et al. (1982). Discussion with experts and pilot study were completed to finalize the contents of the questionnaire that was used in this study. Results are as follows : 1. Sleep complaints were lower in older adults. 2. The most frequent variables that explain sleep satisfaction were feeling rested in the morning in the older adults and feeling rested and failing asleep within five minutes in the young adults. 3. Regarding sleep-disturbing factors, physical factors were more frequently reported in the older adults and environmental factors are reported more frequently in the young adults, and there was no difference related to the emotional factors between the two groups. 4. Young adults were practiced strategies for better sleep more often than the older adults, and they were mainly in-home activities just before sleep. 5. Sleep patterns which change with aging were as follows : going to bed and waking up earlier : not staying in the bed long after waking up ; getting harder to fall asleep ; frequent arousal after sleep onset ; getting harder to go back to sleep after arousal during night sleep. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that sleep and related factors of the young and the older adults are different. Also, sleep patterns change with aging and those changes seem to be negative for sleep in the elderly. Repeated studies are needed to establish more concrete information regarding sleep patterns. In addition, further research is needed to develop more reliable, valid, and feasible sleep measure tools, and to develop and evaluate nursing interventions.
