Effect of Irradiation of Red Radish Seeds on the Seed Viability and Functional Properties of Sprouts

  • Red radish seeds were irradiated at doses up to 8 kGy using electron beam (e-beam) and gamma ray ($\gamma$-ray). The seed viability and functional properties (carotenoid, chlorophyll, ascorbic acid, and total phenol) of sprouts grown from these irradiated seeds were evaluated. High germination percentage ($\geq$97%) was observed in seeds irradiated at $\leq$5 kGy, but the yield ratio and sprout length significantly decreased with increased irradiation dose. Irradiation at $\geq$6 kGy resulted in curling of the sprout roots. Sprouting enhanced the functional properties of red radish seeds as indicated by the increased carotenoid, chlorophyll, ascorbic acid, and total phenol contents during germination. However, radiation treatment hampered the growth of seeds resulting in underdeveloped sprouts with decreased carotenoid, chlorophyll, ascorbic acid, and total phenol contents. In general, e-beam and $\gamma$-ray irradiation of red radish seeds showed similar effects on the seed viability and functional properties of sprouts. Postharvest storage reduced the functional quality of sprouts.

발아콩을 이용한 콩우유의 isoflavone 향상 및 품질 특성 개선 (Isoflavone and Quality Improvement of Soymilk by using Germinated Soybean)

  • 콩우유의 기능성 향상과 품질 특성 개선을 위하여 콩을 발아시켜 발아기간별로 콩우유를 제조한 다음 isoflavone 및 올리고당의 함량과 콩우유의 물리적 및 관능적 품질 특성을 비교하였다. 발아콩으로 제조한 콩우유의 isoflavone 함량은 증가하여 신팔달 2호의 경우 12시간 발아에서 5.552 mg/g으로 최대값을 보였다. 콩우유의 물리화학적 특성은 고형분 함량의 경우 신팔달 2호는 5.68%에서 6.02%로 증가하였으며 서목태는 24시간 발아 후 5.30%에서 6.10%로 증가하였다. 색도는 L 값의 증가와 함께 a, b값은 감소하여 색의 밝아짐의 효과가 있었다. 콩우유의 점도는 감소하였으며 현탁액 안정도는 24시간 발아후 개선되었다. 콩우유의 관능적 특성은 콩비린 냄새의 감소와 고소한 냄새, 맛의 증가로 발아콩으로 제조한 콩우유의 관능적 특성이 향상되었다. 신팔달 2호의 경우 12시간 발아 콩으로 제조한 콩우유의 선호도가 가장 높게 평가되었다.

축분 퇴비의 이화학적 특성과 발아지수를 이용한 부숙도 평가 (Evaluation of Compost Maturity by Physico-chemical Properties and Germination Index of Livestock Manure Compost)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the humification grade of compost, based on physico-chemical property and phyto-toxicity during the composting with three kinds of livestock manures and saw dust. The ratios of the compost, which was mixed with pig manure(P) and sawdust(S) were 4 : 6(PS-1), 5 : 5(PS-2) and 6 : 4(PS-3); poultry manure(PO) and sawdust(S) were 4 : 6(POS-1), 5 : 5(POS-2) and 6 : 4(POS-3); cow manure(C) and sawdust(S) were 4 : 6(CS-1), 5 : 5(CS-2) and 6 : 4(CS-3) by volume to volume, and they were decomposed for 60 days. In the result, the temperature in all treatments during composting rapidly increased above $65.4^{\circ}C$, and then gradually decreased to around $40^{\circ}C$. At 60 day, after the treatment, pH 5.9 ~ 8.0 at the incipient stage increased to 7.6 ~ 8.5, and the C/N ratio was 13.8 ~ 21.1 at the final composting stage. Germination Index(G.I.) showed in the range of 75.1 ~ 94.6 in all treatments at day 60. Therefore, it is likely recommended to take the best humification grade when the temperature maintains above $65^{\circ}C$ longer than a day at minimum, in the range of pH 6.5 ~ 8.5 for the final compost, under 20 of C/N ratio, and G.I. above 80. The level of G.I. above 80 should be the mature compost which could be used in the field without gas demage to crops.

소나무류 3수종의 종피색깔에 따른 종자 및 발아특성 비교 (Seed and Germination Characteristics by the Seed Coat Colors of Three Species of Genus Pinus)

  • 본 연구에서는 소나무류 3수종의 효율적인 종자정선으로 파종효과를 높이고자 종피 색깔에 따른 종자 및 발아특성을 조사하였으며, 그 결과 수종 및 종피 색깔간 차이가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 종자 길이에 있어서 소나무와 해송은 연황색과 암갈색 종자 간에 차이가 없었으나 리기테다소나무의 경우 차이를 나타내었다(p<0.05). 종자 너비는 해송 종자에서만 차이가 인정되었으나(p<0.05), 실중은 3수종 모두가 색깔간 심한 차이를 보였다(p<0.01). 반면, 수분함량은 3수종 모두 유의성이 인정되지 않았다. 종자 발아특성 중 발아율의 경우 3수종 모두 연황색과 암갈색 종자간 차이를 나타내었는데 특히 리기테다소나무는 그 차이가 매우 심하였다(p<0.01). 평균발아일수에 있어서는 소나무와 해송 종자는 유의적 차이가 인정되지 않았다. 그러나 리기테다소나무는 차이를 나타내어 암갈색 종자를 사용할 시 발아소요일수가 단축됨을 알 수 있었다. 발아속도 및 발아균일지수는 발아율과 유사한 경향을 나타내었으나 리기테다소나무에서만 그 유의적 차이가 인정되었다. 종자특성과 발아특성과의 상관관계를 분석한 결과 실중은 모든 발아특성에 영향을 미쳤으며 수분함량은 발아율에만 영향을 미쳤다. 결과적으로 소나무류 3수종의 종자에 대해 종피 색깔에 따라 구분했을 때 종자 및 발아특성에서 차이를 보였으며, 발아특성에서 대부분 암갈색 종자가 높은 수치를 나타내어 파종 전 정선시 이에 대한 고려가 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

소형 교반식 저장건조빈의 벼 건조 및 저장 특성 (Drying and Storage Characteristics of Small Scale Accumulated / Stirred Storage and Drying Bin)

  • Not only does the labor of manufacturers used most in the drying process after rice harvest, but it also is having huge influence in quality. Also, because drying storage of rice production around the whole country is scarce with original facility, it has become a very important matter that farms develop their own safe and high-quality facilities to store and dry rice. Therefore, this study developed a small scale accumulated storage and drying bin, assessed nalyzed drying properties, and conducted analysis of research on the property of quality when storing for a long time. As a result, the drying speed of the small scale accumulated storage and drying bin was adequate of 0.042%/hr and was shown that the experimental static pressure and theoretical static pressure corresponded. Also, it was shown that drying cost was up to about 6 times inexpensive that heated air drying. For the storage of the small scale accumulated storage and drying bin, average of moisture content was around 16.5 until early April and decreased to 15.7% in July. Inside storage was maintained to 12.13% until early April and slightly increased to 14% after May. It was shown that inside storage had higher hardness and rate of cracking than the small scale accumulated storage and drying bin by storage conditions and germination rate was shown a little higher when stored in the small scale accumulated storage and drying bin.

Differences of Water Absorption Property and Seed Viability according to Morphological Characters in Soybean Genotypes

  • The impermeable seed coat is valuable trait in soybean because impermeable seed retain viability for longer period than permeable seed under adverse conditions such as delayed harvest or prolonged storage. Soybean seeds of various size showing different seed hardness were examined for their water absorption and seed viability under adverse storage conditions. Of one hundred thirty nine genotypes, eight types of seeds having different seed hardness and seed size were used as material. Soybean genotypes showing high hard seed rate, GSI13125 (89%), GSI10715 (54%), and GSI10284 (42%), were slow in water absorption and low in the electroconductivity of seed leachate in distilled water. Germination of GSI10284 and GSI13125 that have higher hard seed rate was less affected by CSVT and artificial aging treatment indicating higher seed storability. The higher storing ability of both collections was confirmed by electroconductivity test for leachate. GSI10122 showed low seedling emergence when the seeds were artificially aged. This genotype was considered as to having a poor storing ability based on difference of electroconductivity before and after artificial aging. Among tests conducted in the experiment, CSVT could be used for determining storage life in legumes. In conclusion, water absorption property of seed was strongly related to the hardness that is directly related to the seed viability and storing ability in soybean seed.

The Improvement of Laying Productivity and Egg Quality according to Providing Germinated and Fermented Soybean for a Feed Additive

  • This study was performed to investigate the effects of laying productivity and egg quality according to providing germinated and fermented soybean (GFS) as feed additive. Among the strain, we selected Monascus purpureus KCCM 12002 so that inoculated in soybean and fermented for 48 h at $20^{\circ}C$. A total of two-hundred forty 70-wk-old Hy-Line Brown layers were divided into four groups (4 treatment${\times}$6 replication${\times}$10 birds each) and fed diets containing 0 (as control) (T1), 0.5% (T2), 1.0% (T3) or 2.0% GFS (T4) for 6 wk. The laying productivity, egg quality and blood property in the egg yolk were experimented. There were no significant differences in the laying productivity, relative liver and spleen weights, egg yolk color and eggshell strength among another groups. The eggshell color, eggshell thickness and haugh unit significantly increased in the GFS-supplemented group (p<0.05) compared to control. However, no significant differences were observed in the blood property after supplementation. The amount of lactic acid bacteria present during storage increased by providing of GFS (p<0.05) compare to control group. Our study results suggested that GFS can be used as a favorable feed additive and feedstuff for the productivity of high quality eggs and promoted relative industry.

Changes of physiochemical properties of LOX-3 null rice lines stored at different storage temperatures and periods

  • Due to the lack in storage facility, considerable amount of rice is stocked in the open air, which causes increased stale flavor and deteriorates palatability and merchantable quality. Lipoxygenase-3(LOX-3) is involved in the production of volatile constituents in stored rice, and the development of stale flavor is delayed in LOX-3 null rice. LOX activity in the rice grain is localized in bran fraction and the tropical Japonica cultivar 'Dawdam' was reported that the absence of LOX-3 is inherited as a simple recessive trait. Also, it was reported that the peroxidation of unsaturated fatty acids occurs at lower levels in the 'Dawdam' bran fraction during storage than in rice varieties with LOX-3. This study was conducted to develop LOX-3 null rice lines using 'Dawdam' and investigate changes of physicochemical properties of the lines stored at different storage temperatures and periods. So we analyzed texture, toyo glossiness value, germination rate and lipoxygenase activity of 15 LOX-3 null rice lines on the condition of which rough rice had been stored at different temperatures (high temperature condition at $35^{\circ}C$ and low temperature condition at $15^{\circ}C$ for 4months. Hardness and stickiness of the lines tendered to be increased when it was stored at high temperature and adhesiveness, springiness, cohesiveness and chewiness was not considerably different according to storage temperatures and periods. The germination rate of HR29062-B-98-2-1-B among LOX-3 null rice lines was higher than another lines, 99.3, 94.0% after 4months stored at low temperature and high temperature, respectively. The lipoxygenase activity was 3,304, 1,601unit/mg protein after 4months stored at low temperature and high temperatures, respectively. So, it is thought that this line will be useful to breed rice varieties with high storability after tested on agricultural traits.

오이 덩굴쪼김병의 발병(發病)을 억제(抑制)하는 토양(土壤)의 특성(特性)에 관(關)하여 (Properties of Soil Suppressiveness to Cucumber Wilt, caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cucumerinum Owen)

  • 오이 덩굴쪼김병의 발병을 억제(抑制)하는 토양의 특성(特性)과 병원균(病原菌)에 대한 억제요인을 밝혀 내고자 진주, 함안, 남지, 밀양, 순천 등지의 28개 비닐하우스에서 토양을 채취하여 공시(供試)하였다. 접종한 병원균의 농도(濃度)에 대한 공시토양의 오이 덩굴쪼김병 발병곡선(發病曲線)을 Log-Probit로 전환하여 토양의 발병억제 정도를 DI50(50%의 공시식물을 발병시킬 수 있는 병원균의 농도)으로 수량화(數量化)하여 공시토양의 발병억제 정도를 비교하였던 바, 같은 지역내에서도 채취장소에 따라서 억제정도(抑制程度)가 크게 달랐으며 진주 5, 순천 7, 남지 22 등이 발병억제능력이 큰 것으로 나타났다. 토양의 화학적(化學的) 성분(性分)이나 물리성(物理性) 등은 발병억제 능력과 일정한 상관(相關)을 나타내지 않았다. 발병억제 토양에서는 병원균(病原菌)의 소형분생포자(小型分生胞子)와 후막포자(厚膜胞子)의 발아율(發芽率)이 현저하게 억제되었다. 병원균의 균사분해(菌絲分解)는 발병억제형(發病抑制型) 또는 발병유도형(發病誘導型) 토양에 따라서 일정한 경향(傾向)을 나타내지 않았으나 균사편(菌絲片)으로부터 형성(形成)된 후막포자(厚膜胞子)의 수(數)는 발병억제형 토양에서 현저히 적었다. 토양 중의 형광성 Pseudomonads 와 Bacillus spp의 밀도는 발병억제형 토양과 유도형 토양간에 통계적유의차(統計的有意差)가 없었으나 병원균에 길항적(拮抗的)인 용균반(溶菌斑) 수(數)는 발병억제형 토양에서 현저하게 많았다.

오일팜 EFB 섬유 적용에 따른 육묘패드 특성변화 (The Change in the Properties of Seeding Pad by the Oil Palm EFB Fiber)

  • The crop production technologies keep in improving and the cultivation becomes more standardization owing to the significant developments of various agricultural materials. The artificial soil and base system for root could be one of the major technologies for the modern cultivation especially for controlled horticulture. Although the perlite, cocopeat, and peat moss are the major components of the artificial soil and are broadly used for various application, there is a great need for the new alternative materials for overcoming the low nutrition and the possible shortage of raw materials. In this study, the application of oil palm EFB fiber as an alternative materials for artificial soil especially for the seeding pad components was evaluated. The changes in the structural properties and the functional properties such as moisture holding properties were compared by laboratory produced seeding pads with different mixture of oil palm EFB fiber. The addition of fibrillated EFB fiber resulted in the significant increase in durability of the seeding pad, which showed the possible application of EFB fiber to the seeding pad instead of the wood fiber (UBKP). The moisture holding properties and the germination condition characteristics of the EFB fiber showed the slight less than those of the cocopeat, which require more sophisticated study for improving the functional properties of seeding pad made of the EFB fiber.
