  • As Geoweb is continuously developing, today it is possible for the public to utilize geospatial information technology, whereas only a few experts could apply this technology in the past. The examples that utilize the geospatial information technology creatively in the field of education have been increasing. Google, USGS and NASA, etc. presented various strategies to attract participation from people as they construct the related web-sites and suggest practical examples so that the existing spatial data in public institutions can be utilized in the field of education. In this study, we presented the strategies that converged education and exploratory learning can be vitalized on the primary, middle and high schools by using geospatial information technology. We took a literature review of researches that geospatial information technology had applied in the field of education according to the changes of schools' environments, analyzed internal and foreign web-sites which applied geospatial information technology to the field of education, and finally presented the strategies for application of geospatial information technology in the field of education. The strategies we presented are divided into four parts: 1) construction of course modules, 2) construction of educational database based on geospatial information technology, 3) construction of authoring environments for course modules, and 4) provision of supporting services for vitalizing the education based on geospatial information technology.

  • Recently, convergence phenomena among industries are appeared with the rapid development of information and communication technology and technology convergence also is emerging as a key issue. Especially, geospatial information industry may be expected to conduct a role as a pioneer in this convergence era. In order to do this, all fields of geospatial information should be classified systematically and interoperability and compatibility among geospatial information systems should be acquired. In this paper, a technical reference model of intelligent geospatial information is proposed to show a hierarchical technical system in the field of geospatial information. The model is developed with five core research projects of Korean Land Spatialization Group (KLSG) and includes also the scope and importance of core technology in the system. The model would be helpful to manage and control all projects of KLSG.

  • South Korea has been reluctant to open its geospatial information overseas to ensure security as a divided country. However, this cannot continue as the domestic and international environments related to geospatial information and the industrial ecosystem of information and communication technologies have been changing dramatically. Within this context, this study aims to analyze the causal relations among relevant variables and how they change and interact with time using a systems thinking process. First, causal maps were created for the domains of national security, map-based convergence service, and corporate competition. Then, the causal maps for each domain were integrated, based on which the points for policy intervention and dominant feedback loops were identified. The analysis results showed that securing the self-sufficiency of domestic geospatial businesses is a key element to determine the whole causal map, and the variable that changes the dominant feedback loop from a vicious circle to a virtuous one is the decision to open geospatial information overseas. In this study, I found the policy leverage that is a policy intervention point that can produce a great effect with little input by building a causal map of the interactions between major variables. This study is significant in that it identified and analyzed the dominant feedback loop as to which causal structure would dominate the system in the long term. The results of this study can be used to discuss not only the impacts of map data overseas opening on the national security and geospatial information industry, but also the interactions in the future when Google or other global companies request to release the geospatial information.

  • In line with the modern era in which the safety of underground facilities and the use of underground information are increasingly emphasized, the state is pushing for more precise and accurate underground spatial information to be secured and utilized. Therefore, we need to pay more attention to subsurface geospatial data. In the future, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will actively utilize the 15 types of Integrated Underground Geospatial Information Map(6 types of underground facilities, 6 types of underground structures, 3 types of ground) that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is building as three-dimensional underground spatial information, and contribute greatly to improving national safety and convenience in underground construction. expected to do However, when a site manager requests an Integrated Underground Geospatial Information Map with a mobile device, if the large-capacity integrated underground space map is not quickly transmitted over the wireless section and is not serviced, it causes inconvenience to the site manager and delays work. In this paper, the goal of this paper is to enable field managers to quickly receive a tiled Integrated Underground Geospatial Information Map with minimal information exchange. Therefore, the tiling system is configured according to the dataset for high-speed Mobile Integrated Underground Geospatial Information Map transmission. In addition, a transmission system for the Mobile Integrated Underground Geospatial Information Map is established, and a TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol)-based spatial information tiling transmission protocol dedicated to the on-site Integrated Underground Geospatial Information Map is developed.

  • Technologies that are leading the fourth industrial revolution, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, artificial intelligence (AI), and cyber-physical systems (CPS) are developing and generalizing. The demand to improve productivity, economy, safety, etc., is spreading in various industrial fields by applying these technologies. Digital twins are attracting attention as an important technology trend to meet demands and is one of the top 10 tasks of the Korean version of the New Deal. In this study, papers, magazines, reports, and other literature were searched using Google. In order to investigate the contribution or role of geospatial information in the digital twin application, the definition of a digital twin, we investigated technology trends of domestic and foreign companies; the components of digital twins required in manufacturing, plants, and smart cities; and the core techniques for driving a digital twin. In addition, the contributing contents of geospatial information were summarized by searching for a sentence or word linked between geospatial-related keywords (i.e., Geospatial Information, Geospatial data, Location, Map, and Geodata and Digital Twin). As a result of the survey, Geospatial information is not only providing a role as a medium connecting objects, things, people, processes, data, and products, but also providing reliable decision-making support, linkage fusion, location information provision, and frameworks. It was found that it can contribute to maximizing the value of utilization of digital twins.
