  • A welded tuff with a near-vertical parataxitic fabric crops out as an elliptical shape($500{\times}350m$) in horizontal section, the Geumseongsan volcanic field. It intrudes the Cretaceous sedimentary rocks of the upper Hayang Group, surge tuff and rhyolite of the Geumseongsan volcanic complex. Generally it displays an ubiquitous, steeply inward-dipping welding foliation, subparallel to the margins of the intrusion, and a subvertically inward-inclined lineation defined by extremely stretched fiammes on the welding foliation plane. These fabrics suggest its overall form may be of an inverted cone-shaped plug representing a flared vent that served as a feeder for extrusive welded ash-flow tuff sheets.

  • The use of the geophysical method in mining prospecting has been studied in the Asdaf region (South-East of Morocco). The objective of the study is to examine the aptitude of the electrical technique, in this case induced polarization (IP) and electric tomography, combined with the electromagnetic method (VLF), in the exploration of barite . The result obtained by the pseudo-sections of electrical tomography and that of KH filtration highlighted anomalies of resistant contact (greater than 400Ω.m) and of high charge chargeability (5mV / V). These contacts are hosted in less resistant Devonian age shale and sandstone. The resistivity response obtained at their level is characteristic of the venous structures associated with barite mineralization. The direction of the mineralized veins is parallel to the direction of the fractured zones (NE-SW), which indicates that the mineralization in place is due to the tectonic movements of the Hercynian orogeny (from Devonian to Permian). These veins are aligned with the locations of abandoned mine shafts and with surface mining areas. Geophysical technique therefore seems to play a key role in barite mining exploration.

  • Combined SP/VLF surveys were carried out at tide embankment, Changgi-ri, Anmyeon-up, Chungcheongnamdo in order to confirm the seawater seepage zone of the embankment using the 128 Channels SP monitor system and VLF/Magnetometer system. These methods were successful in the detection of the seawater seepage zone. The self-potential method can give better resolution of the seepage zone than do VLF method.

  • By the instrumental neutron activation analysis using two comparators of gold and cobalt, 31 elements have been anlalyzed in anthracites collected from two main coal-fields in Korea. The average concentrations and ranges of the elements were obtained with the elemental difference between two coal-fields. The trends of rare-earth elemental distribution and vertical elemental distribution are also given.

  • The aim of this study is to evaluate the susceptibility of landslides at Clicap area, Indonesia , using a Geographic Information System (GIS). Landslide locations were identified from field surveys. The topographic and geological map were collected and constructed into a spatial database using GIS. The factors that influence landslide occurrence, such as slope, aspect and curvature of topography, were calculated from the topographic database and lihology and fault was extracted from the geological database. Then landslide susceptibility was analyzed using the landslide-occurrence factors by likelihood methods. The results of the analysis were verified using the landslide location data. The GIS was used to analyze the vast amount of data efficiently . The results can be used to reduce associated hazards, and to plan land use and construction.
