Recently global society has been interested in the alleviation of poverty in the developing countries. Fair trade has gotten lots of attention as the new way to release the poor situation of the developing countries through the favored trade deal. This research endeavored to reveal the problems of fair trade in the context of the subalternity of producers in the developing countries. Fair trade as a social movement has been carried out under the principle of fairness with the partnership between developed and developing countries, pursuing on the sustainable development of the developing countries. However, it has been revealed that fair trade is not the right way to overcome the poverty of developing countries. The main reason for the unfairness of fair trade was due to the developed countries led programs which are very similar to aid programs, thus this study suggests the necessity of producer-led development program as a practical performance of the producers in the developing countries for fair trade. For this development, this research put emphasis on the perceptual transition for development, renewed understanding of market value, development as freedom, and the importance of individuality for local development in the context of postdevelopment.

This study reviewed a broad range of existing reform options, and on the basis of this review proposed a number of initiatives for institutional reform in developing countries. This strategies were intended to help FAO staff to provide guidance to the developing countries for the reform of their agricultural and rural extension systems. The paper defines the distinction among extension as a function, agricultural extension as part of a larger knowledge triangle, and agricultural and rural extension as an expanded concept of knowledge and information systems. The focus is on new measures that promote food security, market-driven system, and highly competitive agribusiness enterprises. Moreover, this study focus on the tensions that exist between the modern force of globalization and the traditional forces of culture, geography, and community.
The globalisation of software production processes is a maze of connected phenomena with dramatically increasing importance as the development of W related industries and services escalates on a global scale. While commercial and industrial software production and related services are historically associated with advanced industrial economies of the North & West, contemporary changes of the past decade suggest that the industry is developing rapidly on a global scale incorporating countries that have historically been classified as '2nd and 3rd world' or periphery and semi-periphery by different theoretical approaches. This study compared and analyzed the contents of secondary earth science curriculum in Mongolia and South Korea to check the contents of earth science education in both countries and to prepare basic data necessary for future earth science curriculum revisions. The research questions of this study are: first, to understand the changes and current operating conditions of earth science curriculum in both countries, to compare and analyze with other foreign cases, and second, to compare and analyze the contents of earth science and curriculum in both countries. The TIMSS evaluation framework is used to compare and analyze the earth science-related contents included in the science curriculum of middle schools. For analyzing the contents of high school, the contents of NGSS in the United States and the earth science curriculum contents of high schools in South Korea were mixed and the analysis frameworks were created and validated by experts. As a result of the study, countries that follow the Russian-style education system did not organize and operate earth science as an independent science subject, and deal with earth science-related content in the natural geography area of the geography subject. The earth science contents covered in middle school science curriculum in both countries, 18 of the 27 content elements of the TIMSS content analysis framework were matched in Mongolia and 20 in South Korea. In high school curriculum, the contents of earth science in Mongolia were described more briefly and not covered than in South Korea. In particular, the Mongolian geography curriculum dealt with many environmental issues. The emphasis on the operation method of the earth science curriculum in Mongolia and the contents related to the environment can be used as a reference when developing an interdisciplinary integrated curriculum of science and social studies in South Korea.
Korean government has promoted the projects of National Geographic Information Systems since 1995 and the utilization level of Korean National Spatial Data Infrastructure based on them has also developed. However, due to the limit to domestic market size and the legal regulation on prohibition of large sized companies' expansion into domestic spatial information markets, Korean spatial information markets are tied up in term of industrial competitiveness. To overcome those problems and evade the domestic red oceans, it is necessary to find new one in overseas' blue ocean markets. It is estimated that overseas spatial information market will be grown to 125 billion-dollar size and the annual growth rate of it will be reached to 10.5% until 2015. Thus, Asian spatial information market has a huge growth potential and it is newly rising blue oceans for Korea. Advanced countries such as Finland, Germany, Sweden, and Japan have already expanded their market size into the newly industrializing countries. To step with advanced countries, it is time to set up the new globalization strategy of Korean spatial information for expansion into newly industrializing markets. The purpose of this study is to analyze the SWOT of domestic spatial information, investigate the status on spatial information of Asian developing countries, and suggest the globalization strategy of Korean spatial information for expansion into them. The globalization strategy can be labelled as K-FBI composed of 4 domains such as Knowledge sharing platform, Frontier, Back to the basic, and Internalization. In near future, the establishment and performance of road map based on the strategy will be the milestone for Korean spatial information companies' advance into Asian developing countries.

The official development assistance (ODA) accompanies an interstate financial transaction, such as trade, foreign direct investment, and money transfer. ODA policy has designated several purposes. Among them, political purposes have been considered to be the key factors in the regional distribution of foreign aid. If we agree the traditional approach that recognizes ODA as a 'political one', the practice of ODA can be a kind of state geopolitics. This study investigates the construction and characteristics of geopolitical discourses. More specifically, this study pays special attention to the 'practical geopolitics' that is crucial to the policy-making. By analyzing the minutes of the National Assembly Standing Committee, four geopolitical discourses were identified: 'practicing humanities as a developed country', 'providing a role model to developing countries', 'developing new foreign markets' and 'coping with global geopolitics'. These geopolitical discourses have been constructed through the process of justifying the ODA policy to the domestic and international audiences. Constructing discourses on ODA shows the representation of a dichotomous and typical image of developed/developing.
The realities of Climate change and its untold implications on the livelihood of man are no longer new worldwide. In attempts to subdue the negative implications of Climate change scenario globally, several measures have being suggested and being put in place. One of such measures is urban reforestation especially in the developing nations where forest resources have extremely and uncontrollably exploited. Most of cities in developing nations are almost devoid of regularly maintained trees for whatever purpose. Thus, the enormous roles which urban tree performs are lacked in most cities. In order to subdue excessive heat in cities arising from exposure of urban land areas urban reforestation exercise needs to be embarked upon. The investigation was carried out through desk studies and review of relevant publications to examine what it entails to have a sustainable reforestation programme in cities. The study revealed that several factors need to be taken into consideration if sustainable urban reforestation will be achieved, especially in developing countries. These factors include urban soil nutrients status investigation, appropriate tree type study, public perception about the tree types, relevant legal instrument to achieve successful reforestation exercise in cities among others were found to be salient to this exercise. Urban reforestation has enormous potentials to subdue Climate change consequences, including urban renewal if adequate provision is made for its sustainability, especially in developing countries. To ensure this is realized it is recommended that relevant ministry/agency could be put in charge for the maintaining, cutting and replanting of urban tree and all that are involved in urban tree sustainability.

This study is to analyze the approaches of development discourse and its representation in geography curriculum and textbooks for middle school in Korea. The paper examines the spectrum of development discourse in terms of modernization theory, dependency theory, neoliberalism, grassroots development, sustainable development, postcolonism, post-structuralism and post-development. The findings on geography textbook analysis based on them are as follows. First, Most of the textbooks don't include the definition and operational definition on development and sustainable development. Second, development indicators rely on normal economic indicators like GDP or GNI per capita. HDI that includes GDP per capita, level of education and life expectancy is treated in some of the textbooks, and gender index is never presented. Third, a textbook still uses biased terms such as developed and most developed countries instead of developing countries. Fourth, in plans to solve economic unequality and geographical problems, personal level is treated less than the global, nation and NGOs. Finally, statements on sustainable development contain only intergenerational equity, not intergenerational equity. And approaches on sustainable development are based on technocentric approaches more than ecocentric approaches. Thus geography textbooks should be carefully written on development discourse by authors.
In terms of the importance of ocean as a present and future resource and the Korean peninsular location, it is strongly urged to develop renewed recognition and educational programs on ocean, so as to respond properly to the newly emerging political changes surrounding the country. By setting up the purpose of marine education as engendering greater interests in and knowledge of ocean, this research suggests that the frame of marine education can be founded appropriately on four educational sub-categories: humanity education, territory education, economy education, and resources and environment education. At an operational scale, this paper particularly analyzed ocean- related contents in the 7th national curriculum in order to find substantial ways for strengthening marine education. The study simultaneously compared the result of content analysis with the curriculum of marine education in other countries, and founded that explicit ocean-related contents in the 7th curriculum were significantly limited. Yet, the study alternatively points out that it is possible to use a variety of teaching materials and apply them for writing textbooks or developing teaching-teaming curriculum. I provide some of the ways for strengthening marine education by using marine-related themes in the curriculum of geography education. Marine is not simply one of the key elements in the discipline of geography. But, more importantly, I suggest that geography is particularly useful in developing various and familiar themes such as swimming beach, fishing villages, ports, marine-bound industrial district and port cities into teaching materials.
