Urban densification has necessitated the development of subterranean spaces such as subway networks and underground tunnels to facilitate the dispersal and movement of populations. Development of these underground spaces requires excavation from the ground surface, which can induce groundwater flow and potentially lead to ground subsidence and sinkholes, damaging structures. To mitigate these risks, it is essential to model groundwater flow prior to construction, analyze its characteristics, and predict potential groundwater discharge during excavation. In this study, we collected meteorological, topographical, and soil conditions data for the city of ○○, where tunnel construction was planned. Using the Visual MODFLOW program, we modeled the groundwater flow. Excavation sections were set as drainage points to monitor groundwater discharge during the excavation process, and the effectiveness of seepage control measures was assessed. The model was validated by comparing measured groundwater levels with those predicted by the model, yielding a coefficient of determination of 0.87. Our findings indicate that groundwater discharge is most significant at the beginning of the excavation. Additionally, the presence of seepage barriers was found to reduce groundwater discharge by approximately 59%.

In the post-Cold War era, acquisition technique of high-resolution satellite imagery (HRSI) has begun to commercialize. IKONOS-2 satellite imaging data is supplied for the first time in the 21st century. Many researchers testified mapping possibility of the HRSI data instead of aerial photography. It is easy to renew and automate a topographical map because HRSI not only can be more taken widely and periodically than aerial photography, but also can be directly supplied as digital image. In this study matching size of IKONOS Geo-level stereo image is presented lot production of digital elevation model (DEM). We applied area based matching method using correlation coefficient of pixel brightness value between the two images. After matching line (where "matching line" implies straight line that is approximated to complex non-linear epipolar geometry) is established by exterior orientation parameters (EOPs) to minimize search area, the matching is tarried out based on this line. The experiment on matching size is performed according to land cover property, which is divided off into four areas (water, urban land, forest land and agricultural land). In each of the test areas, window size for the highest correlation coefficient is selected as propel size for matching. As the results of experiment, the proper size was selected as $123{\times}123$ pixels window, $13{\times}13$ pixels window, $129{\times}129$ pixels window and $81{\times}81$ pixels window in the water area, urban land, forest land and agricultural land, respectively. Of course, determination of the matching size by the correlation coefficient may be not absolute appraisal method. Optimum matching size using the geometric accuracy therefore, will be presented by the further work.

Linear-tracked typhoons were simulated to investigate the effect of parameter sensitivity at Gyeongnam coastal zone. To do this, appropriateness of the linear-tracked MAEMI(0314) was tested and 175 scenarios were simulated on the basis of virtual MAEMI. The results show surge heights are relatively large at Masan and Tongyeong, and it can be attributed to topographical effects. At Masan, 2.5 m-surge height is probable with the same intensity but slightly different track from the real typhoon MAEMI. At the other stations, surge heights induced by real MAEMI are nearly same as the maximum heights of the virtual typhoons, which indicates the real track of the typhoon MAEMI was almost the most severe one. Surge heights caused by the barometric effect are higher than those by the wind effect, and the former effect shows the maximum at the eye of typhoon.

This paper present to how to make VGIS(Virtual Geographic Information System) using GIS and digital map. Because the development of the GIS has been 2-dimension in the last few years, viewpoint of the high-resolution image estimate was difficult. The geo-spatial information system has lots of errors in the policy decision and the principal decision making because it was displayed as 2 dimension map that the digital map and topographical map, geological map. agronomical map, cadastral map and underground facility map are expressed as a symbol practically in spite that it is spatial topography data. It is utilized as effective administration analyzing, all kinds of discussion, transportation and environmental effect evaluation, various kinds of building discussion and policy decision thorough researching the present condition of region as 3 dimension map using digital map and GIS when drafting and deciding all kinds of urban plaining so it is considered that errors of policy decision will be minimized.

In order to monitor local climatic information, twelve automated weather stations (AWS) were installed in alpine area by the Alpine Agricultural Experiment Station, Rural Development Administration (RDA), at the field of major crop located in around highland area, and collected data from 1993 to 2000. Hourly measurements of air and soil temperature (underground 10 cm,20 cm), relative humidity, wind speed and direction, precipitation, solar radiation and leaf wetness were automatically performed and the data could be collected through a public phone line. Datalogger was selected as CR10X (Campbell scientific, LTD, USA) out of consideration for sensers' compatibility, economics, endurance and conveniences. All AWS in alpine area were combined for net work and daily climatic data were analyzed in text and graphic file by program (Chumsungdae, LTD) on 1 km $\times$ 1 km grid tell basis. In this analysis system, important multi-functionalities, monitoring and analysis of local climatic information in alpine area was emphasized. The first objective was to obtain the output of a real time data from AWS. Secondly, daily climatic normals for each grid tell were calculated from geo-statistical relationships based on the climatic records of existing weather stations as well as their topographical informations. On 1 km $\times$ 1 km grid cell basis, real time climatic data from the automated weather stations and daily climatic normals were analyzed and graphed. In the future, if several simulation models were developed and connected with this system it would be possible to precisely forecast crop growth and yield or plant disease and pest by using climatic information in alpine area.
In this study, we predicted areas vulnerable to ground subsidence near abandoned underground coal mine at Sam-cheok City in Korea using a probability (frequency ratio) model with Geographic Information System (GIS). To extract the factors related to ground subsidence, a spatial database was constructed from a topographical map, geo-logical map, mining tunnel map, land characteristic map, and borehole data on the study area including subsidence sites surveyed in 2000. Eight major factors were extracted from the spatial analysis and the probability analysis of the surveyed ground subsidence sites. We have calculated the decision coefficient ($R^2$) to find out the relationship between eight factors and the occurrence of ground subsidence. The frequency ratio model was applied to deter-mine each factor's relative rating, then the ratings were overlaid for ground subsidence hazard mapping. The ground subsidence hazard map was then verified and compared with the surveyed ground subsidence sites. The results of verification showed high accuracy of 96.05% between the predicted hazard map and the actual ground subsidence sites. Therefore, the quantitative analysis of ground subsidence near abandoned underground coal mine would be possible with a frequency ratio model and a GIS.
This study was carried out to identify the reasons of the landslide by land creeping in South Korea in order to provide basic information for establishing the management plan for prevention. Total 29 sites of landslide areas caused by land creeping were observed in South Korea. Among them, the soil-composition of most frequent landslide areas occurred by land creeping was colluvium landslide as 75.9% (22 sites), followed by clay soil landslide as 10.3% (3 sites), bedrock landslide as 6.9% (2 sites), and weathered rock landslide as 6.9% (2 sites). According to the types of parental rocks, the investigated landslide areas were divided into 3 types: 1) metamorphic rocks including schist, phylite, migmatitic gneiss, quartz schist, pophyroblastic gneiss, leucocratic granite, mica schst, banded gneiss and granitic gneiss, 2) sedimentary rocks including limestone, sandstone or shale and mudstone, 3) igneous rocks such as granite, andesite, rhyolite and masanite. As a result, it was noticed that the landslides occurred mostly at the metamorphic rocks areas (13 sites; 44.8%), followed by sedimentary rock areas (12 sites; 41.4%), and igneous rock areas (4 sites; 13.8%). Looking at the direct causes of the landslide, the anthropological activities (71%) such as cut slopes for quarrying, construction of country house, plant, and road, farming of mountain top, and reservoir construction were the biggest causes of the landslides, followed by the land creeping landslides (22%) caused by geological or naturally occurred (22%), and cliff erosions (7%) by caving of rivers and valleys.

Korea Stress Map database is built by integrating actual data of 1,400 in-situ stress measurements using hydraulic fracturing and overcoring method in South Korea. Korea Stress Map 2020 is presented based on the guideline proposed by World Stress Map Project. As detailed data, stress ratio and maximum horizontal stress direction distribution for each region are also presented. The dominant maximum horizontal stress direction in the Korean Peninsula is from northeast to southeast, and the magnitude of the in-situ stress is relatively distributed. There is some stress heterogeneity caused by local characteristics such as topographical and geological properties. We investigated case studies in which the in-situ stress was affected by mountainous topography, difference in rock quality of fracture zone, presence of mine or underground cavities, and geological structure of fault zone.
The objectives of this study are to analyze the changes of geo-surface topography in the Siwha embankment and the Ahsan city area by the image processing of Landsat Thematic Mapper data, and to estimate the reclaimed amount of the exposed tidal flat in the Siwha area using the GIS. False color composite, Tasseled cap, NVDI(normalized difference vegetation index), and supervised classification techniques were used to analyze the distribution of sediments and the aspect of topographical variations caused by artificial human actions. The total amount of the exposed tidal flat was estimated on the basis of the database snch as aerial photography, hydrographic chart, geological map, and scheme drawing in the Siwha area. The possible excavation regions for a seawall were predicted analyzing the supervised classification image of Landsat TM data. Tasseled cap images were used to observe the distribution of sediments. The difference of the NDVI images between spring and summer seasons indicates that deciduous and coniferous forests were distributed over the whole areas. The total fill-volume of the exposed Siwha tidal flat and the fill-volume of the construction planning seawall were calculated as $581,485,354\textrm{m}^3{\;}and{\;}3,387,360\textrm{m}^3$, respectively, from the digital terrain analysis. Daebu Island, Sunkam Island, and the part of Songsan-myeon were chosen as the cut area to make the seawall, and their cut-volumes were estimated as $5,229,576\textrm{m}^3,{\;}79,227,072\textrm{m}^3,{\;}and{\;}47,026,008\textrm{m}^3$, respectively. Therefore, the cut-volume of Daebu Island alone among three areas was sufficient to make the seawall.
