In this paper, we optimize simulation model of a manufacturing system using the real-coded genetic algorithm. Because the manufacturing system expressed by simulation model has stochastic process, the objective functions such as the throughput of a manufacturing system or the resource utilization are not optimized by simulation itself. So, in order to solve it, we apply optimization methods such as a genetic algorithm to simulation method. Especially, the genetic algorithm is known to more effective method than other methods to find global optimum, because the genetic algorithm uses entity pools to find the optimum. In this study, therefore, we apply the real-coded genetic algorithm to simulation optimization of a manufacturing system, which is known to more effective method than the binary-coded genetic algorithm when we optimize the constraint problems. We use the reproduction operator of the applied real-coded genetic algorithm as technique of the remainder stochastic sample with replacement and the crossover operator as the technique of simple crossover. Also, we use the mutation operator as the technique of the dynamic mutation that configures the searching area with generations.

In this study, the modified genetic algorithm, D-GA, is proposed. D-GA is a hybrid genetic algorithm combined a simple genetic algorithm and the local search algorithm using direction vectors. Also, two types of direction vectors, learning direction vector and random direction vector, are defined without the sensitivity analysis. The accuracy of D-GA is compared with that of simple genetic algorithm. It is demonstrated that the proposed approach can be an effective optimization technique through a minimum weight structural optimization of ten bar truss.

In many dynamic structural optimization problems, the goal is to reduce the total weight of the structure without causing the resonance. Up to now, gradient informations(i.e., design sensitivity) have been used to achieve the goal. For some class of dynamic problems, especially coalescent eigenvalue Problems with multiobjective optimization, the design sensitivity analysis is too much complicated mathematically and numerically. Therefore, this article proposes a new technique fur structural dynamic modification using a mode modification method with Genetic Algorithm(GA). In GA formulation, fitness is defined based on penalty function approach. Design variables are iteratively improved by using genetic algorithm. Two numerical examples are shown, (ⅰ) a cantilevered plate, and (ⅱ) H-shaped structure. The results demonstrate that the proposed method is highly efficient.

We describe a new method for selecting design variables for shape optimization of high-voltage gas circuit breaker using a Kriging meta-model and a genetic algorithm. Firstly we sample balance design variables using the Latin Hypercube Sampling. Secondly, we build meta-model using the Kriging. Thirdly, we search the optimal design variables using a genetic algorithm. To obtain the more exact design variable, we adopt the boundary shifting method. With the proposed optimization frame, we can get the improved interruption design and reduce the design time by 80%. We applied the proposed method to the optimization of multivariate optimization problems as well as shape optimization of a high - voltage gas circuit breaker.

The behavior of submerged membrane bioreactor (SMBR) filtration systems utilizing rapid air backpulsing as a cleaning technique to remove reversible foulants was investigated using a genetic algorithm (GA). A customized genetic algorithm with suitable genetic operators was used to generate optimal time profiles. From experiments utilizing short and long periods of forward and reverse filtration, various experimental process parameters were determined. The GA indicated that the optimal values for the net flux fell between 263-270 LMH when the forward filtration time ($t_f$) was 30-37 s and the backward filtration time ($t_b$) was 0.19-0.27 s. The experimental data confirmed the optimal backpulse duration and frequency that maximized the net flux, which represented a four-fold improvement in 24-h backpulsing experiments compared with the absence of backpulsing. Consequently, the identification of a region of feasible parameters and nonlinear flux optimization were both successfully performed by the genetic algorithm, meaning the genetic algorithm-based optimization proved to be useful for solving SMBR flux optimization problems.
In this study, we introduce the optimization method of fuzzy inference systems that is based on Hierarchical Fair Competition-based Parallel Genetic Algorithms (HFCGA) and information data granulation, The granulation is realized with the aid of the Hard C-means clustering and HFCGA is a kind of multi-populations of Parallel Genetic Algorithms (PGA), and it is used for structure optimization and parameter identification of fuzzy model. It concerns the fuzzy model-related parameters such as the number of input variables to be used, a collection of specific subset of input variables, the number of membership functions, the order of polynomial, and the apexes of the membership function. In the optimization process, two general optimization mechanisms are explored. The structural optimization is realized via HFCGA and HCM method whereas in case of the parametric optimization we proceed with a standard least square method as well as HFCGA method as well. A comparative analysis demonstrates that the proposed algorithm is superior to the conventional methods. Particularly, in parameter identification, we use the UNDX operator which uses multiple parents and generate offsprings around the geographic center off mass of these parents.

This study suggests a general paradigm enhancing genetic mutability. Mutability among heterogeneous members in a genetic population has been a major problem in application of genetic programming to diverse business problems. This suggested paradigm is implemented to developing new methods from existing methods. Within the evolutionary approach taken to designing new methods, a general representation scheme of the genetic programming framework, called a kernel, is introduced. The kernel is derived from the literature of algorithms and heuristics for combinatorial optimization problems. The commonality and differences among these methods have been identified and again combined by following the genetic inheritance merging them. The kernel was tested for selected methods in combinatorial optimization. It not only duplicates the methods in the literature, it also confirms that each of the possible solutions from the genetic mutation is in a valid form, a running program. This evolutionary method suggests diverse hybrid methods in the form of complete programs through evolutionary processes. It finally summarizes its findings from genetic simulation with insight.
This paper presents the optimization technique to select the design parameters of a hydraulic servo valve using the genetic algorithm. The dynamic performance is governed by the design parameters of the servo valve and they may be select by repeated number of simulations such that the desired performance is obtained. Using the genetic algorithm to optimize the design parameters, effective method is suggested. This method can be used for the design of the hydraulic systems as well as the servo valve.

Simple genetic algorithm(SGA) has been used to optimize a lot of structural optimization problems because it can optimize non-linear problems and obtain the global solution. But, because of large evolving populations during many generations, it takes a long time to calculate fitness. Therefore this paper applied micro-genetic algorithm(μ -GA) to structural optimization and compared results of μ -GA with results of SGA. Additionally, the Paper applied μ -GA to gate optimization problem for injection molds by using simulation program CAPA.

Genetic algorithms are becoming more popular because of their relative simplicity and robustness. Genetic algorithms are global search techniques for nonlinear optimization. However, traditional genetic algorithms, though robust, are generally not the most successful optimization algorithm on any particular domain because they are poor at hill-climbing, whereas simulated annealing has the ability of probabilistic hill-climbing. Therefore, hybridizing a genetic algorithm with other algorithms can produce better performance than using the genetic algorithm or other algorithms independently. In this paper, we propose an efficient hybrid optimization algorithm named the adaptive random signal-based learning. Random signal-based learning is similar to the reinforcement learning of neural networks. This paper describes the application of genetic algorithms and simulated annealing to a random signal-based learning in order to generate the parameters and reinforcement signal of the random signal-based learning, respectively. The validity of the proposed algorithm is confirmed by applying it to two different examples.
