A Generalized Model for Homogenized Reflectors

  • A new concept of equivalent homogenization is proposed. The concept employs new set of homogenized parameters: homogenized cross sections (XS) and interface matrix (IM), which relates partial currents at the celt interfaces. The idea of interface matrix generalizes the idea of discontinuity factors (DFs), proposed and developed by K.Koebke and K.Smith. The method of K.Smith can be simulated within framework of new method, while the new method approximates heterogeneous cell better in case of the steep flux gradients at the cell interfaces. The attractive shapes of new concept are: improved accuracy, simplicity of incorporation in the existing codes, equal numerical expenses in comparison to the K.Smith's approach. The new concept is useful for: (a) explicit reflector/baffle simulation; (b) control blades simulation; (c) mixed UO2/MOX core simulation, The offered model has been incorporated in the finite difference code and in the nodal code PANBOX. The numerical results show good accuracy of core calculations and insensitivity of homogenized parameters with respect to in- core conditions.

천부 탄성파 굴절법 자료의 수평 분해능 최대화 연구 (Maximising the lateral resolution of near-surface seismic refraction methods)

  • 굴절법 토모그래피를 구현하는 대부분의 컴퓨터 프로그램은 타우-피 역산 알고리즘을 이용하여 초기 모델을 생성한다. 타우-피 역산 알고리즘은 지층의 수직 분해능에 초점을 맞추기 때문에 전단 영역의 존재를 지시하는 탄성파 속도의 감소와 같은 수평적인 변화를 탐지하는데 실패하는 경우가 자주 발생한다. 본 연구에서는 타우-피 역산 알고리즘이 50미터 혹은 10개 측점 너비의 주요 전단 영역을 탐지하거나 정의하는데 실패하는 사례를 보여준다. 그럼에도 불구하고 대다수의 굴절법 토모그래피 프로그램들이 각 지층의 수직 속도 구배로 탄성파 속도를 매개화한다. 이와는 달리, 일반상반성방법(Generalized Reciprocal Method; GRM) 역산 알고리즘은 개별 지층의 수평 분해능을 강조한다. 본 연구에서는 GRM 역산 알고리즘을 이용하여 50미터 폭의 전단 영역을 성공적으로 탐지하고 정의하는 사례를 보여준다. 전단 영역의 존재는 2차원 선두파 진폭분석과 이후의 3차원 굴절법 탐사의 일환으로 수행된 몇 개의 근거리 직교 탄성파 탐사에 의해 확인된다. 또한. 송신원 기록 진폭분석 결과는 풍화대에서 수직 속도 구배보다는 속도역전이 발생하는 것을 보여준다. 결론적으로 말하면, 모든 탄성파 굴절법 탐사가 실용적으로 정확한 심도추정 결과를 제공하는 것을 목적으로 하면서도 개별 지층의 수평 분해능을 강조하는 기법들이 지질환경공학적인 응용에 더 유용한 결과를 생성한다는 것이다. 향상된 수평 분해능의 장점은 구조적 특징이 탄성파 속도의 변화 크기로부터 인식될 수 있는 2차원 트래버스(tracverse)로 얻어질 수 있다. 또한, 3차원 탐사로부터 얻어진 공간 패턴은 탄성파 속도에서는 고유한 변화나 징후를 보이지 않는 단층과 같은 구조적 특징의 인식을 가능하게 한다.

  • The computer program which predicts the gas exchange process of multi-cylinder 4-Stroke cycle spark-ignition engine, can be great assistance for the design and development of new engine. In this study, the computer program was developed to predict the gas exchange process of multi-cylinder four stroke cycle spark ignition engine including intake and exhaust systems. When gas exchange process is to be calculated, the evaluation of the variation of the thermo-dynamic properties with time and position in the intake and exhaust systems is required. For the purpose, the application of the generalized method of characteristics to the gas exchange process is known as one of the method. The simulation model developed was investigated to the analysis of the branch system of multi-cylinder. The models used were the 2-zone expansion model and single zone model for in cylinder calculation and the generalized method of characteristic including area change, friction, heat transfer and entropy gradients for pipe flow calculation. The empirical constants reduced to least number as possible were determined through the comparison with the experimented indicator diagram of one particular operation condition and these constants were applied to other operating condition. The predicted pressures in cylinder were compared with the experimental results over the wide range of equivalence ratio and ignition timing. The predicted values have shown good agreement with the experimental results. The thermodynamic properties in the intake and exhaust system were predicted over the wide range of equivalence ratio and ignition timing. The obtained results can be summarized as follows. 1. Pressures in the exhaust manifold have a little influence on the equivalence ratio, a great influence on the ignition timing. 2. Pressures in the inlet manifold are nearly unchanged by the equivalence ratio and the ignition timing. 3. In this study, the behaviors of the exhaust temperature, gas in the exhaust manifold were ascertained.

  • The simulation program which predicts the gas behavior in a spark ignition engine has been developed and verified by the comparison with the experimental results foy the MPI engine, naturally aspirated and turbochared engines with a carburettor. First paper describes the calculations of the behavior of gas in the intake and exhaust system. The generalized method of characteristics including friction, heat transfer, area change and entropy gradients was used to analyse the pipe flow The constant-Pressure model was applied for the analysis of the flow through engine valved, and the constant-pressure perfect-mixing model was applied for the flow at manifold junction. The concept of the sudden area change was used for the muffler and catalytic convertor. Fer the plenum chamber in an MPI engine, constant-pressure model and constant-volume model were both examined. Through the comparison of predicted results with experiments, the simulation program was verified by showing good prediction of the behavior of IC engine qualitatively and quantitatively under wide range of operating conditions.

유동변수 파라미터에 의한 혼합 내-외재적 열-유동장 수치해석 방법 연구 (A Study on Flowfield-Dependent Mixed Explicit-Implicit Method in Heat and Fluid Dynamics Problems)

  • High-speed and low-speed flows are simulated numerically by flowfield-dependent mixed explicit-implicit (FDMEI) method. This algorithm depends on implicitness parameters of convection, diffusion, diffusion gradients, and source terms which are calculated from the changes of local Mach, Reynolds, Peclet, and Damkohler numbers between adjacent nodes. Convection phenomena or shock waves are resolved from Mach number-dependent implicitness parameters whereas diffusion or viscous actions are simulated by Reynolds number or Peclet number-dependent implicitness parameters. Fluctuation components of all variables are properly accommodated spatially and temporally in the FDMEI procedure. To illustrate, some benchmark example problems are presented for comparisons of the FDMEI results with other available data. These results appear to be encouraging and point toward the need for further investigations of the FDMEI theory.

High-Resolution Numerical Simulation of Respiration-Induced Dynamic B0 Shift in the Head in High-Field MRI

  • Purpose: To demonstrate the high-resolution numerical simulation of the respiration-induced dynamic $B_0$ shift in the head using generalized susceptibility voxel convolution (gSVC). Materials and Methods: Previous dynamic $B_0$ simulation research has been limited to low-resolution numerical models due to the large computational demands of conventional Fourier-based $B_0$ calculation methods. Here, we show that a recently-proposed gSVC method can simulate dynamic $B_0$ maps from a realistic breathing human body model with high spatiotemporal resolution in a time-efficient manner. For a human body model, we used the Extended Cardiac And Torso (XCAT) phantom originally developed for computed tomography. The spatial resolution (voxel size) was kept isotropic and varied from 1 to 10 mm. We calculated $B_0$ maps in the brain of the model at 10 equally spaced points in a respiration cycle and analyzed the spatial gradients of each of them. The results were compared with experimental measurements in the literature. Results: The simulation predicted a maximum temporal variation of the $B_0$ shift in the brain of about 7 Hz at 7T. The magnitudes of the respiration-induced $B_0$ gradient in the x (right/left), y (anterior/posterior), and z (head/feet) directions determined by volumetric linear fitting, were < 0.01 Hz/cm, 0.18 Hz/cm, and 0.26 Hz/cm, respectively. These compared favorably with previous reports. We found that simulation voxel sizes greater than 5 mm can produce unreliable results. Conclusion: We have presented an efficient simulation framework for respiration-induced $B_0$ variation in the head. The method can be used to predict $B_0$ shifts with high spatiotemporal resolution under different breathing conditions and aid in the design of dynamic $B_0$ compensation strategies.

CANDU 핵연료봉의 열적 휨 모형 및 예측 (A Generalized Model for the Prediction of Thermally-Induced CANDU Fuel Element Bowing)

  • CANDU 핵연료봉의 휨 열적 휨 멘트와 수력학적 견인력 및 기계적 하중에 기인하는 휨 모멘트에 의하여 일어난다. 여기서, 연료봉 휨은 연료봉 축방향 중심선으로부터의 측면 처짐으로 정의한다. 본 논문에서는 연료봉 축방향 중심선에 대한 비대칭 온도불포에 의해 핵연료 피복관 자체와 피복관과 소결체의 상호작용 부위에서 발생하는 열적 휨만을 취급한다. 이를 위해 1).소결체와 피복관사이의 기계적 상호작용을 무시한 조건에서의 핵연료 피복관의 휨과 2) 소결체와 피복관의 온도 변화에 기인하여 발생하는 소결체와 피복관 사이의 기계적 상호작용을 고려한 조건에서의 연료봉 휨을 혼합 고려하고, 각각에서 피복관의 비대칭 온도분포가 (i) 냉각재의 불완전한 혼합에 따른 비균질 냉각재 온도, (ii) 핵연료 피복관과 냉각재 사이의 비균질한 열전달 계수, (iii) 핵연료내 반경 방향으로의 중성자속 감쇄에 의한 비대칭 열 발생 등의 복합적효과에 의해 발생되는 것으로 고려하여 피복관의 대칭온도 분포까지 포함 할 수 있는 열적 휨의 일반적 해석 공식을 제시하였다. 본 휨 공식에 사용되는 모든 변수에 대한 민감도 분석을 통해, 핵연료봉 길이, 피복관 내경, 냉각재 평균 온도 및 변화 인자, 소결체 -피복관 기계적 상호 작용 인자, 중성자속 감쇄 인자, 핵연료 열팽창 계수, 피복관-냉각재 열전도 계수 등의 변화가 피복관 두께, 피복관-냉각재 열전달 계수, 피복관 열팽창 계수, 핵연료-피복관 열전달 계수 등의 변화보다 핵연료봉의 열적 휨에 상대적으로 더욱 영향을 미치는 것으로 밝혀졌다.
