  • In the curved geometries, from the solution of the classical Riemann problem in the plane, the asymptotic solutions of the compressible Euler equation are presented. The explicit formulae are derived for the third order approximation of the generalized Riemann problem form the conventional setting of a planar shock-interface interaction.

  • In this paper, we consider a generalized Riemann problem of the first order hyperbolic conservation laws. For the case that excludes the centered wave, we prove that the generalized Riemann problem admits a unique piecewise smooth solution u = u(t, x), and this solution has a structure similar to the similarity solution u = $U{(\frac{x}{t})}$ of the correspondin Riemann problem in the neighborhood of the origin provided that the coefficients of the system and the initial conditions are sufficiently smooth.

  • In this note, we consider the Riemann problem for a two-dimensional nonstrictly hyperbolic system of conservation laws. Without the restriction that each jump of the initial data projects one planar elementary wave, six topologically distinct solutions are constructed by applying the generalized characteristic analysis method, in which the delta shock waves and the vacuum states appear. Moreover we demonstrate that the nature of our solutions is identical with that of solutions to the corresponding one-dimensional Cauchy problem, which provides a verification that our construction produces the correct global solutions.

  • We study the Riemann problem for the pressureless Euler system with the source term depending on the time. By means of the variable substitution, two kinds of Riemann solutions including deltashock and vacuum are constructed. The generalized Rankine-Hugoniot relation and entropy condition of the delta-shock are clarified. Because of the source term, the Riemann solutions are non-self-similar. Moreover, we propose a time-dependent viscous system to show all of the existence, uniqueness and stability of solutions involving the delta-shock by the vanishing viscosity method.

  • In the generalized characteristic coordinate system (GCCS) proposed by Wu and Shi [1], the frame moves at a speed which is a linear combination of the convective speed and the sound speed, thus unifying the classical Eulerian approach, Lagrangian approach, and the unified coordinate system (UCS) of Hui and his co-workers [2]. Here some properties of Euler equations in the GCCS are studied and the advantages of GCCS in capturing expansion fans and shock waves are demonstrated by the results of numerical tests.

  • In this paper, we propose a new semi-analytic approach based on the generalized Taylor series for solving nonlinear differential equations of fractional order. Assuming the solution is expanded as the generalized Taylor series, the coefficients of the series can be computed by solving the corresponding recursive relation of the coefficients which is generated by the given problem. This method is called the generalized differential transform method(GDTM). In several literatures the standard GDTM was applied in each sub-domain to obtain an accurate approximation. As noticed in [19], however, a direct application of the GDTM in each sub-domain loses a term of memory which causes an inaccurate approximation. In this work, we derive a new recursive relation of the coefficients that reflects an effect of memory. Several illustrative examples are demonstrated to show the effectiveness of the proposed method. It is shown that the proposed method is robust and accurate for solving nonlinear differential equations of fractional order.

  • A transcritical flow occurs when the width and slope of a channel are varying abruptly. In this study, the transcritical flow in a two-dimensional open channel is analyzed by using the shallow-water equations. A weighted average flux scheme that has flux limiter with a total variation diminishing condition is introduced for a second-order accuracy in time and space, and non- spurious oscillations at discontinuous points. A HLLC method with three wane speeds is employed to calculate the Riemann problem. To overcome difficulties resulting from variation of channel sections in a two-dimensional analysis of transcritical flow, the numerical model is developed based on a generalized grid system.
